It is now against the law to be annoying on the internet.

"It's no joke. Last Thursday, President Bush signed into law a prohibition on posting annoying Web messages or sending annoying e-mail messages without disclosing your true identity."

That law will be DOA. There is a long line of constitutional case law protecting anonymity on message boards. Typical lame duck legislation from the lamest duck of them all. :p

How will this ever , even remotely, stand up to its first challenge on the 1st amendment grounds?

It is a real law, but I posted it more in jest than anything.

Now wait ...

Lets be real here. Bush signed it, but Congress passed it. Which is Democrat controlled (both houses).

So lets give credit where loony credit is due.

Its a good thing to see our "President" sign such an important piece of legislation into law. I guess all the world's other big problems have been suitably solved, and Congress decided to do a bit of clean-up on the small annoyances. Now, if we can get a bit of that special brand of crack whoever wrote this law was smoking, we will all be just fine and dandy.

Just when I think I've heard it all from capitol hill. As if we weren't getting the shaft on so much of this kind of dumb stuff that always seems to take precedent over everything else.

nah - take a look at the top of the article where the article's author is listed. Right below that is the date it was written.

This was a law that went thru congress in 2005 (Republicans), and Bush signed it into law the following January.

I googled it a little bit - there doesn't seem to be a whole lot out there on it. Either it hasn't created a whole lot of controversy, or no one's tested it yet.

*snerks* How long ago did this pass again? 2006? You mean, it took us two years to notice this bill?! And for the last two years I've been simply deleting this spam in my email?! Okay, where do I forward it? Do I forward it to Bush's email now?

k yeah I had a look.

It possible I just saw it on CNN that long ago lol.

I don't see it surviving a challenge though. Conservative or liberal the courts are never much for infringing on free speech.

I was just making noises that I thought might be "okay" under this lovely new law that our great and thoughtful overlords have seen fit to bestow upon us.

YAY FOR THE CURRENT ADMINISTRATION!

I apologize then. I just came from another site with a bunch of right wing blow hards fighting left wing blow hards. So my independent middle of the road "moron" of a self just needed to release some of that pent up annoyance, which apparently could send me to jail for two years.

Still stand by my comment of Republicans not having any desire to check facts though. I could go through the list of examples, but we'd all be dead by then.

And we'd find just as many democrats in the same boat. Pie Anyone?
