I have to say I love searching as well finding awesome quality builds which make lovely use of our smaller SL land lots and those of odd shapes.
I pick up land from ad farms to reduce them across the sims I am in, open back up the sky, so truly appreciate the small builds for using them to help beatify an old ad lot{s} and still be able to add gorgeous landscape as well personal accessories.

These are the best small builds I have had experience with ;)

Round House Delux w/ Rez Box/$20L/on SLX
My first house which I still love,, a Round Stained glass
Ikani Mahana

JS Tuscan Villa v2.35/$1L/on SLX
Quite fills up a narrow 512 lot, but it is long and narrow/w a second floor
Jo Sapeur

Shirley's Dreams Challenge House 2.0 - boxed/32 prims/was $0L/was on SLX
I have this one on my first 512 now for a friend to use and just love it, if you can still find it, this is one fine small build.
Shirley Marquez

Vista /10 prims/$0L now on SLX
Cristalle Karami

Bill Stirling Designs SeaSide House/48 prims/$500L/on SLX also
I have an office/pup in this house on one of my lots and it is a great house as well design.

Many Warm Blessings,,,

Thanks for the mention. This particular house is designed to alleviate the poor noob who buys a 256m plot, not knowing that most houses will eat up more than half of the prims they got. It's 10x10x20 and has all the things you would want: privacy tint, locking door and a copiable teleporter. I'm proud of it because the house itself is only 8 prims, the tp's take up the last 2 prims.

To those of you that have kindly offered to build me something - I haven't hassled you in world (except for Annabelle!!!) because I don't want to get a reputation for begging (I do enough of that in RL!).

I did wonder though .... if I took a photo of a RL house - would it be physically possible to copy it in SL? Just imagine how many people would pay for that!!!! Maybe someone already does it?

Anyway, I suppose I'd better get back to the joys of searching.... sigh ;-)

I really am most grateful for the replies,

One in real life being sick I am quite dependant on others so I understand being afraid of begging, a burden, etc.
I like personally llike making texture and ideas that others give me.
Few times I thought about putting up a sign somewhere saying
"Will doodle textures for upload fees."
I wouldn't offer if I didn't have the time and also others have helped me when I was starting
out and still do.
Lot of people also remember what its like starting out thats why they offered I assume.
If you had photo of a real house those images could be used for making
the textures that go on a prim. Also there are some builders or prim doodlers like myself that sometimes base a object or even building from a photo.
Sometimes I make furniture that way.

I am incredibly grateful to all of you - I know I keep saying 'thanks' a lot, but I do mean it (I would ALMOST ask for your Paypal ID and shove a few million dollars in it... but I'm afraid you'll have to do with knowing that I'll be mentioning your names to Father Christmas this year!!).

What an awful shame that I'm from the UK (I totally blame my parents!) and am only on line when the rest of you are dreaming (snoring??).

I've found a site with prefabs on it that I like, but (there is ALWAYS a but with me - sorry!) I want a mixture of three that are on display, i.e. one is the right size, another is almost the right colour and another has the right roof! Is it better for me to buy the closest match and ask someone to help me alter it, or better to start a new build from scratch please?

I really am willing to pay someone for their time, skills, knowledge and above all patience (I like to tweak things!!), but I'm not offering thousands I'm afraid - if I had that much, I'd buy a bigger plot and have the problem solved! Is anyone able to help me during UK day time hours (pretty please)?

I wonder just how many newbies have had the same problem as this and why there isn't a shop that sells odd shaped or oblong prefabs? I really must learn to build, but I won't attempt to run before I can walk (gosh, I can barely crawl at the moment!).

Cheers

I actually found that problem when I was a nubie. So I started making homes that were all 512 and low prim, and eventually had a shop of my own. It's called "Fabulous at 40", they are all 40 prim homes, all 512 compatable, and all with the best textures you can find inworld. Mostly Textures R Us 3-D light f/X ones, which cost more than the pricetag I set, 500L for all my 40 prim homes. Theres quite a few models now, they are all 'themed' IE Egyptian Temple, Space Station, San Fransicso, NYC Lofts, that sort. Not to totally plug my shop here, but it's in Plush Eta

I had terrible parents, too, who insisted I be born in the UK:) Are these houses modifiable? If not then you can't mix 'n match.

I'll pop in shortly and we can take a look at them, if you like.

Those parents have a LOT to answer for! It's a good idea to keep a record of everything that has ever gone wrong for you (providing you can find a way to 'twist' it to make it your parents fault - usually just saying you were born by them in the first place works!) and bring it out over the Christmas lunch - it really makes this special time so memorable!

The three houses do state they are modifyable in the SLExchange listing, but don't mention it on the Notecards in land.

I'll be going off to look at the new 'plug' (I don't mind how many plugs I get - saves me flying around aimlessly!) now.

Be still my beating heart (stupid expression - slow down is ok, but still?!!!)

For a one-size-fits-all-plots:

There is a classic design fun thing. "Well-known" but I'm dammed if I can remember the name of the designer right now.
- A building that works even when turned on a side or even upside down.
- Stairs and landing that are 'impossible' in one orientation, but perfect in another.

It's on the tip of my tongue.
I even remember seeing an example in SLExchange
... but where..?

For fitting into a variety of SL plot sizes, think of a design that's narrow and tall when one edge, but wide and low when on another.

Hello again and many thanks for all the infomation, offers and ideas on where to look. I'd also like to thank you for the Birthday greetings (even if one or two of you did give me permanent ear damage with your 'angelic' singing voices!!! hehehe).

I am still searching... although my original dream home is getting less and less fussy! I started out with a definite 'look' I wanted and after days and days of looking - I'm becoming very much more flexible - in fact, I'll be so fed up of looking soon that I'll end up with a Victorian Mansion House Boat Sky Loft Castle 'thing' just because I got desperate !!! Besides, I'm not able (NO patience, I'm afraid!) to wait another 364 days before I can use my RL birthday to an advantage again!

To those of you that have kindly offered to build me something - I haven't hassled you in world (except for Annabelle!!!) because I don't want to get a reputation for begging (I do enough of that in RL!).

One of my best friends was building a house irl and when she visited, she brought the plans with her.

So I immediately built it in SL! (The Getaway House.) With some SL modifications, but essentially looks like hers.

She and her husband came into SL to see it, and were thrilled.

I don't do custom work, but I'm sure you could do the same thing, and show someone who does a picture of the house you would like!

Internally, though, there will almost without doubt be modifications to make it more SL-effective; and even outside, some things which look good in a real picture don't translate well in SL terms. (When I put a deck all around the house like the one she was building, the house ended up looking like a boat, so I modified that.)

OK, I can't stand it anymore!!

I have a house that is oblong, called "The Sandpiper," a low-prim house that will fit on (nearly all) 512 lots.

The problem is, most oblong houses have the front door at one of the short ends, and it sounds like your lot faces the sea so that it needs to have the front door in one of the long sides.

I haven't seen many like that, unless they are huge houses.

Still offering to do it free... all I need is a style and a landmark to look at what I have to work with. Even if you're not online, I can build it and box it for you to set up.
