The entire reason I got into building was because I could not find a house I liked. Now, I live in a skybox I made with a bunch of prefabs I bought and later changed my mind about.

My favorite house ever though, was the space station from 5th Dimension

What very nice people you are!!!

Wow - this is great of all of you.... I'm just about to go searching at the places recommended first and then I will probably ask one the kind 'offerers' if they can help me please? I keep bombing out of SL (it's just sooo not my day today!), so if you have IM'd me, I'm sorry, but I don't have a record of it.

It just so happens to be my RL birthday today (truly!) and it's been kinda cr*p (ssshhh, don't tell my family!! - it's not their fault anyway!), but as sad as it is... the thought of having a house in SL is making me one happy 'old' bunny - can I now officially join the 'Desperately Addicted to SL Club'?!! lol

Make sure annabelle shows you her latest creation. It's not a house, but it's spectacular.

Cozy Homes
11-14-2007 14:26
Have you tried Cozy Homes?
She has all kind of houses, not too heavy primmed and really cozy with that home look we all look for.
Prices are also good.

Try Donagh's Domiciles or Steele Designs

they will both not only design you the house of your dreams but will help you place it :D

Then, too, if you find a house you like, many builders will help you make it fit your lot through modifications.

If you fancy something a little different, I have a Gypsy Caravan (a Romany Vardo). It is low prim, fully furnished with menu driven seat and bed and comes with lots of extras. It is also narrow (coz caravans generally are, hehe).

As it is your birthday, and also my hamster's, if you do want one, you can have it half price (just mention this thread in IM to remind me, hehe).

Oh, and coz it is a sunny day and I feel happy - anyone else who gets one before 20th December and mentions this thread can have a 25% refund. They are on display on SLexchange and Tin Teddy island.

Happy Birthday Twirly and good luck in your hunt.

Happy Birthday and Welcomed to SL.
If you want special textures for low prim garden or your home walls that is within my skill level to draw just look me up and I do for free.
I remember how hard it was to even put a prefab down.
Prim building isn't one of my stronger areas but I make some nice trees, flowers, walls, windows and fabrics and occasional nice chaise and 1 prim furniture.
I tend to work better with very small prims.

I'm sorry. In the light of escallating costs of materials and administration it has been deemed more efficient to make the club 'The Not Desperately Addicted to SL Club'.

I believe they meet on Friday nights in the Snug Bar of the Crown & Anchor where they play Dominoes and Pontoon.

Oh, and Happy Birthday Twirly :D

Thanks to ALL of you!
11-15-2007 05:06
Hello again and many thanks for all the infomation, offers and ideas on where to look. I'd also like to thank you for the Birthday greetings (even if one or two of you did give me permanent ear damage with your 'angelic' singing voices!!! hehehe).

I am still searching... although my original dream home is getting less and less fussy! I started out with a definite 'look' I wanted and after days and days of looking - I'm becoming very much more flexible - in fact, I'll be so fed up of looking soon that I'll end up with a Victorian Mansion House Boat Sky Loft Castle 'thing' just because I got desperate !!! Besides, I'm not able (NO patience, I'm afraid!) to wait another 364 days before I can use my RL birthday to an advantage again!

To those of you that have kindly offered to build me something - I haven't hassled you in world (except for Annabelle!!!) because I don't want to get a reputation for begging (I do enough of that in RL!).

I did wonder though .... if I took a photo of a RL house - would it be physically possible to copy it in SL? Just imagine how many people would pay for that!!!! Maybe someone already does it?

Anyway, I suppose I'd better get back to the joys of searching.... sigh ;-)

I really am most grateful for the replies,
Bestest

hmm those narrow/odd 512s, ya gotta luv em ;)
11-15-2007 05:24
I have to say I love searching as well finding awesome quality builds which make lovely use of our smaller SL land lots and those of odd shapes.
I pick up land from ad farms to reduce them across the sims I am in, open back up the sky, so truly appreciate the small builds for using them to help beatify an old ad lot{s} and still be able to add gorgeous landscape as well personal accessories.

These are the best small builds I have had experience with ;)

Round House Delux w/ Rez Box/$20L/on SLX
My first house which I still love,, a Round Stained glass
Ikani Mahana

JS Tuscan Villa v2.35/$1L/on SLX
Quite fills up a narrow 512 lot, but it is long and narrow/w a second floor
Jo Sapeur

Shirley's Dreams Challenge House 2.0 - boxed/32 prims/was $0L/was on SLX
I have this one on my first 512 now for a friend to use and just love it, if you can still find it, this is one fine small build.
Shirley Marquez

Vista /10 prims/$0L now on SLX
Cristalle Karami

Bill Stirling Designs SeaSide House/48 prims/$500L/on SLX also
I have an office/pup in this house on one of my lots and it is a great house as well design.

Many Warm Blessings,,,

Wow - thank you soooo much for taking the time and effort to help me - I did enjoy the thrill of the hunt at first.... but sadly, like with most things in my life, it's simply getting too hard now (and whilst I appreciate that looks like a rude pun, it wasn't intended in that way - honestly!!!).

I'll be going off to look at the links now - fingers crossed, I may just find something!

Ace Albion's Choc house. Narrow, low prim, attractive, functionally awesome.

My original 'dream' was....
11-15-2007 08:52
Well, when I finally took the plunge and purchased my little plot by the edge of the water, I had visions of a true English sea-side Victorian house so I started searching the Victorian Homes, but all I could find were the dark, gothic types or the wooden slated American ones. I guess I wanted a white plastered front, with large (not too angular) bay windows, a porched entrance and a grey slate roof with a chimney or two. It doesn't sound all that unusual, does it? But out of the zillions of prefab sites (I may be exaggerating a wee bit!) I've visited, I haven't found a single one!!

So now I'm left paranoid that I've either got terrible taste or I'm a cr*p searcher!

But thanks to you guys, I still have a few more places to search so for the next hour or two if you could kindly all keep your fingers crossed, I'd very much appreciate it!!!

Thanks

Twirly - bug me in world - I will help you out - and it will be fun for me ... I love doing stuff like that. =) Send me a picture of what you want and we'll make it happen - I can teach you to build as "we" do it. I'm only in world later in the evenings - tonight I'm babysitting after work - but should be around sometime after 6:00 p.m. SL time!

Sorry I haven't read the thread, but did anyone suggest Caledon? Caledon, if you don't know it, is Desmond Shang's huge set of Victorian sims. It might be worth to just fly around Victoria City (the capital) and see if there are any cute townhouses, then look up the creator.

Another quick path to find a Victorian home for a 512 would be to post on Caledon's own forum:

I can do that. I can't guarantee 100% accuracy within reasonable prim limits, but I can work off an existing floor plan and style. Please send me a landmark and the pic of what you want it to look like.

if any of those goth houses have the basic design you want, and is modifiable, you can swap out the textures for something less gloomy.
take note of which prefabs are mod or not.

I have this one, and it is very narrow. You said you didn't want a lot of windows, which this one, has....however they can be blacked out so they look like solid walls from the outside. It also has a nice little loft room upstairs with a balcony. It's nice as originally textured, but it's modifiable, so you can add your own textures, which is what i did, to personalize it more. Ace's houses really are nice builds, and he has some cute smaller ones.
