I finally took the plunge and purchased some land - yay! BUT I have a new problem now - boo!
I have quite literally spent days and days searching all the prefab / home listings and sites for my new retreat, but as I am now at the stage of pulling my RL hair out (I wouldn't mind if it were only the grey ones that I attacked!) I thought I might ask you helpful peops for some advice please?
My plot is a reasonable size for a newbie (over 2000sqm), but it's an oblong shape so the width of my house is very limited. I've searched the 512 homes available, but they are all basic due to the prim limits and the 1024 homes are too wide! I didn't want anything unusual like a tree-house or a castle.... just a 2 storey 'normal' house that isn't all glass or wood and has some nice gadgets!
Is it time to call in the builders and have a custom home made? If so, is this going to cost me L$THOUSANDS?
Or can anyone recommend a narrow home? I have a small beach front so I'd rather like to see the water from inside the house or I would've put the house on at a different angle.
Oh well, I guess I'll add this to my 'Twirly's Classic Blunder' book (which is getting rather large now!).
Thanks in advance for any help, Twirly

Is your land laid out so that setting the house up the other direction is impossible? If it's any consolation, it took me DAYS to find a house a really liked. Have you tried Galland Homes? Nice houses!

What are the dimensions of your land? That may help some. Have you tried Aces Spaces? They seemed to have a few larger houses that are a little more oblong. Also don't try to fill your whole land with house, between the house it's self and trying to furnish it you will simply run out of Prims too fast.
Again rough dimensions of your land will help.

You could just throw up a 1 prim shack or a 3 prim house and spend the rest of the prims on decorations? It doesn't need to have a ton of prims to look good.

Twirly,
Last night I saw something on SL Exchange that might be what you need.
It's a four room condo...but only ONE room rezzes at a time. One of those "temp on rez" things. Only 79 permanent prims, but something like 700 prims of "stuff" available.
It was sort of expensive, but it does come with all the furniture, and switchable textures on the rugs and bedspreads and so on, and menu-driven furniture.

I would have suggested a railway carriage body but Twirly specified two-storey.

As far as prefabs go, I always recommend Ace's Spaces. They may have something that fits From: Twirly Tomorrow I finally took the plunge and purchased some land - yay! BUT I have a new problem now - boo!

From: Zog Ozsvar As far as prefabs go, I always recommend Ace's Spaces. They may have something that fits I am going to second that recomendation - also, they are inexpensive, copy/mod (generally) and you can see them in action if you go to the store - they have three rezzing platform floors. At the moment I have two of Ace's houses instead of building one of my own, because the textureing makes them such a wondering thing.

Ace's are amazing, and well scripted to. But the OP doesn't want big glass, and most of Ace's are, IIRC.

most of my rentals are either ace or parker builds. they look great, are light on prims, have nice features, and ace has been helpful when ive needed help with something.

Thanks V V much all - land specs are:
11-14-2007 09:23
Thank you all... I'm still searching!
I'm very new to all of this and bearing in mind I only have about half a brain cell .... I may have got these land specifications wrong!
I put the builders measurement footprint down on my land and it appears to be 30m width BUT when I purchased 2 houses (yep, I will add these two blunders to my huge book!) that were supposed to be 30 across I ended up plonking part of a house on some poor, unsuspecting people in the next plot (it was incredibly embarrassing!) so I must be doing something wrong... sigh!
Basically it's a very narrow but long plot with water to the front of it and I truly am struggling BIG time to find a house to fit the space that isn't tooooo basic. If I had the 'know-how' I would've purchased a modifyable house and chopped it up a bit, but sadly I was not blessed with the 'ability to learn' function!
Oh well - back to the tireless search!
Thanks again all, Twirly

not all are glass. there are a few there that do break from that style. that being said most de tend to assume youre on a standard square 1024.. i was looking at some asian-styled houses today. modern asian will be my next theme. wonder if op likes that look.

twirly, right-click the land, select 'edit land' from the pie. then use the land selection tool to count the little yellow squares. usual 1024 is 8x8 tiles each tile is 4x4m, so 8 tiles across is 32m.

save yourself some pain and buy a bedouin tent. You don't need a kitchen and for naughty stuff use a skybox.

Just to put a plug in for our place. We at Hosoi Estates have some oblong prefabs that are "villa" style - not sure if it fits your prim limits, etc. You can see them in "Virgin Island 2" - contact me, Nani Yifu or Kimikarze Eclipse in-world and they can show you what we have.

The house I used on my first parcel as long and narrow. Sadly it was just like one room which I placed a wall inside to make into two rooms, and then Walled in the supports to make a basement and used a tp system to go up and down.
My current house is 2 story, I can't recall the actual dimensions but it's sitting on about 2048m land with a good chunk left free. I got it from a place when I was searching for castles. It's a lovely modifiable build that everyone who has seen it has liked. The kicker? It, and all the other houses the creator had was only 25L. Yes, no zeros and it's got scripted doors, a balcony, railing, and more.
I'd say go check out my home but it's got a sec sys running so cam pan if you do decide to do so.
I'm off in Foyle Gulley, easiest way is to search for Something Wicked This Way Rezzes and walk around the treeline towards the lake, my house is behind the trees and cemetary wall.

What about Jack Feaver? We have one of his houses and really like it and there is a lot of variety in dimensions. This one does have quite a bit of glass I guess, but the shape sounds like it might be good for your land - plus you can sit on the deck and look at your beach! http://www.slexchange.com/modules.php?name=Marketplace&file=item&ItemID=169065

Twirly - I don't have but a few, but take a look at my homes I have for sale. You can see two of them up and "running" if you go to my "Home Sweet Home" on my profile (look up Lelia Wakawaka). They are for sale then at my shop at Fine Things. The 512 home I have is narrow, but has a teleport up. If you can't find anything you like - let me know and I can help build you something that's simple and will suit your needs for free. I love to build ... but only when I feel like it. Everything I have for sale is pretty much stuff I built for myself ... I have a couple other homes that aren't listed in the store ... or out ... one is a Victorian style. From: Twirly Tomorrow I finally took the plunge and purchased some land - yay!

Oh well, I guess I'll add this to my 'Twirly's Classic Blunder' book (which is getting rather large now!).
Thanks in advance for any help, Twirly

Twirly--I have a house that fits on a standard 512. I know you have more land than that, but if you are looking for a narrow house, take a look at mine. I don't normally sell them (I usually sell land WITH the houses on them), but I'll make an exception for you. Take a look at it by TPing to Coverdale. It's the stone and glass house that's for sale right on the beach. If you like it, IM me and I'll sell you a copy.
