There's, uh, probably a lot of things you didn't know about lindens. Another, another interesting, uh, lindenism, uh, there are only three jobs available to a linden. The first is making shoes at night while, you know, while the old cobbler sleeps. You can bake cookies in a tree. But the third job, some call it, uh, "the show" or "the big dance," it's the profession that every linden aspires to.

do the polar bears live in your igloo too? Yes they serve as the central heating unit. Bit squishy but warm with all the fur and stuff ... _____________________

Jesus Chaos hartcliffe....i know the place well Ok ladies and gentlemen let me say this on behalf of Chaos...if he comes from hartcliffe in south bristol then this is indeed the way people speak there. Interestingly......people from Bristol Uk seem to be labouring under the Illusion, that EVERY day is " Speak like a Pirate day ". As for the use of expletives, when they are the result of an impoverished vocabulary, this can be a little tiresome. When they are used as an adjunct, to a colourful and descriptive form of discourse, then they can be quite fucking thrilling actually. ![]() |

Bristolian Accent. I understood maybe 1 word in 10, subtitles would have been very helpful. Cue much nodding, on my part, much smiling when it seemed appropriate' much feigning of temporary deafness, in the hope that if he repeated his sentence, I might pick up another word to aid the context of my guessing. Very sweet guy though, used to fix my car .....for free........ he could be talking in Klingon for all I care, if a guy fixes your car for free he can prattle away in Pirate interminably. This is how he pronounced the nearby city of Bath.... Baaaaarrrrghth. Sighs. Jane Austen would be so proud. |

Ahhh.... for all things West Country....
http://www.wurzelmania.co.uk/ Also has a "learn to speak the lingo" section. I knew the guy who used to run that site, sadly died earlier this year but someone's keeping it going. Met him at a Wurzels gig near Bristol about 4 years back. Broccoli _____________________

I am allways nice to people, until someone is not nice 2 me and then i turn evil, and i mean REALLY evil. It runs thru the family, and most ppl in Bristol r like it oh eh its not Baaarrrrghth, its Baaaarrrff _____________________

If you want opinions Chaos, I'll add mine.
You've been Given a warning, and with it comes a Very elementary choice. 1) Accept that you took one step too far, and Make an effort to Change, in which event we can all look forward to your continued contributions here. OR, 2) Ignore the warning, and Keep going on the way you have been going (Posting in the forums over a Disciplinary decision is an excellent Start BTW) and Soon LL's patience and Tolerance will be Completely expended and we will all be Bidding you a Fond and heart felt farewell as you are perma banned. and rest assured your name Will live on in for forums at least until the next shiney thing occupies it's collective consciousness at which point it will be as though you had Never existed at all. Either way, the choice of what happens next is entirely up to you and the responsibility is entirely your own. Not the people who haven't been warned for swearing, Not the Lindens for enforcing their rules, Not your country of origin and it's accepted four letter methods of Communicating (An excuse i actually reject utterly as the Queens English is one of the most Rich and expressive languages on the Face of the Planet, your Obsession with explatives notwithstanding >and don't you feel ashamed at being lectured on your misuse of your Mother tongue by a French Woman?< . If you stay, or Go, it's Your choice. Take some responsibility. Angel. |

Right on, Angelique. Especially about the expressiveness of English. It is amazing what you can say, politely, without a single proscribed word in the lot. Really, just amazing. You do have to set your mind to it, of course...

You do have to set your mind to it, of course... For a very long time, (and i beleive the stricture is still in Effect) Non Commissioned Officers in the British Armed forces were forbidden from using Foul language when Addressing subordinates (USMC Drill Sergeants take note) This did Not however Halt them from Dressing down a subordinate in no uncertain terms. They simply had to make more Imaginative use of the remainder of the vocabulary after a dozen or so words were removed from their usage. Swearing as i habit i personally abhore. My Aunty always said, anything you have to say that can ONLY be expressed using that sort of language Really isn't worth hearing. Very wise Woman, my Aunty. Angel. |

My problem with "dirty words" being overused is that they lose their effectiveness. I believe as a society we need those off limit words for the exact moment when the time is right. For example, if I hit my thumb with a hammer I am likely to scream "OH F..K!!" That is definitely appropriate. If the "f" word because too common, though, then I might as well be screaming "Oh Golly Jeepers" when I hit my thumb. I really don't think that will have the same effect.
Also, if you see my chat and IM log in the "a person " - damaging SL business" thread, I used some colorful words as well. Again, a time I thought it was very appropriate. _____________________

yeh i know i need 2 chill down a bit, why would they ban my SL account from just using the forums, isnt that a bit minimalist and lame.
anyway i cant really do anything about my english (bristolian) but ill not blast someone out of the water if they flame my post. it does piss me off tho when people are just out right cold & rude, if they were like that in RL (its ok to be open, and say what u think, but not so that is it cold & rude, and intended 2 hurt the other person) then they'd get quite badly hurt (that was said politely, i could have said, get there 'ead caved in, hehe) _____________________
