It still needs tweaking, I'm just realizing his head is a bit too big. He's a bit scruffy but I use him mostly for biker clothes photo shoots. Someday I got to get him out of that freebie hair.

The shape is coming along, I basically had to make it myself because I couldn't find one I wanted.

Oh, man, I totally want one of those tuxedos now. I wonder how they'd look on a gal?

I don't have a tux like that but I do have a decent realistic shape. I've never liked that bulky bodybuilder look.

(don't know how to make a link, I guess you'll have to copy-paste. Fully clothed and safe for work).

I like your look better than the one above.

good job

I made my shape before I learned about SL height, and while I have tweaked it a fair bit since then the height remained teh same. I think i am "average SL height" though. Pleased with the shape too while I sometimes ponder getting a nose job. :p http://www.flickr.com/photos/dariras/3107924845/ I have a female alt aswell, never took pics of her. Guess I should do that one day.

Edit: (And just realised I'm not logged into Darion.. :D Ulv is a bit more on the fuzzy side.. hehe)

I do wish I could find a realistic greyish hair for my avi. I'm going for a really fit look for a man in his late 30's / early 40's. Most of the grey hairs I've seen look like a normal hair spraypainted solid grey LOL. That's pretty much the only reason he's got black hair still....

As far as height, I've given up on "realistic" heights. When everyone is 8 feet tall, a "normal" height looks freakish. But I DO try to keep him proportioned properly.....

So guys, why don't you trash that old bulky "bodybuilder on steroids" shape?

I can't even imagine what kind of flack I would get if I came on here and posted something like this directed at women. "So gals, why don't you trash that old "insert derogatory comment about female shapes" shape?"

Thought I'd repost this one of me. Seven liked it!

I made the abs and arms a little on the muscular side, but not too much. You can't see it with long sleeves, though.

...it's of course a woman who runs the avatar, LOL. Stacie Pryor shows here just how good a male avatar can look in SL.

ZOMG. Perfect! /me gives Stacie my phone number. Oh wait, he's a she. damn.

Very nice shape, Lewis. I like seeing male shapes that differ from the common weightlifter-on-steroids style, which often appears to be accompanied by a tiny head. Yours looks solid, muscular, and fit without being overbuilt. Well done!

I had to make my legs skinny to fit my no mod wellies .they look superb with a tux. As for the men on steroids I think it's because it takes time and effort in RL pumping iron. Pumping sliders is a stroll in the park.

Well, I read this entire thread hoping for some tips on making my avi look better, and I have gotten some.

I am still looking for some greying hair (salt 'n'pepper sort of thing). No luck yet, but I continue to look.

As for the original poster, I hate to say it, but that avi reminds me of a comedian's comment I heard once:

"Guys who look llike that like guys who look like that."

"Not that there's anything wrong with that."

Hey....that's a bit young for grey hair, yikes! LOL Yeah, I know some go grey earlier than others...but by and large most of the men I know in my age group (41) are NOT grey yet.....or maybe have a few scattered.....But you're right.....there's not much in the way of truly realistic looking grey hair.

well... I AM a builder in SL (though I'm much less handy in RL).

hmm that gives me an idea for something like a tool belt or something similar, like a builder or carpenter might wear.

And I'm a coffee lover, I can ALWAYS use an extra cup of sugar. :-D

I agree. I'm 42 in RL and I have a few grey hairs round the sides but not so much. My father didn't go fully grey til he was around 60.

Still working on mine as well. Went for the athletic type instead of the juiced-up, Arnold Schwartzewhatever look. Hardest part for a guy is finding nice clothes to go with the style you want.

I was about to say you can get the sugar when I'm online but that didn't sound right. :D

Coffee is good lol.

I have the same complaint about many women in SL. I'm just not attracted to 7' tall amazons with meter long toothpick thin legs, zeppelin breasts, and armor spikes sticking out of their thigh length boots and wrist bands.

Yes, I am well aware they may not be women at all and I'm not looking to jump on a pose ball with anyone. It's just nice once in a while to interact with a few normal looking or even a bit Rubenesque ladies who are not all sleazed out. Were it not for these tastful people, I might not have stayed in SL.

I hear you and I agree. :)

Those (huge) 'prim boobs' are the absolute worst. :/ Talk about a caricature! Those simply are not found in nature at all.

I've gotten compliments before on my 'more realistic' shape or that I 'look like a real person' . The person (almost always a male av) goes on to add they are sick of seeing the overdone female shapes. (The types you describe above.)

It's nice to see avatars that seem reasonably possible to be human. Although I love seeing other types of avatars too, (butterflies, dogs, horses, etc.), if human then it's nice if they look somewhat 'possible'. And don't seem to be 'trying too hard' too. But I see similar types in RL sometimes and I guess that part's also a matter of personal taste. I wouldn't find certain style choices appealing in RL or SL.

Back to shapes, I've never found roided-up male shapes attractive, I prefer the swimmer's/dancer's body shape, or just a regular ol' guy. :) Even a bit of a pot belly can be attractive! And I'd choose the 'professorial' type over a bodybuilder any day. But that's just me. :p

A windy way to say, yes, I think the zeppelin-boobed, stilt-legged, overly tanned/oiled, teased-up hairstyle female avs are as unappealing as the guy avs who look like the Hulk.

Very nice, Lewis. But I read somewhere that you are transgender F to M. Your sense of style may be residual. ;)
