...it's of course a woman who runs the avatar, LOL. Stacie Pryor shows here just how good a male avatar can look in SL. http://www.staciepryor.com/2009/05/15/review-rebel-hope-designs-rh-signature-tuxedos/So guys, why don't you trash that old bulky "bodybuilder on steroids" shape?

I don't have a tux like that but I do have a decent realistic shape. I've never liked that bulky bodybuilder look. (don't know how to make a link, I guess you'll have to copy-paste. Fully clothed and safe for work). http://luminosity2l.files.wordpress.com/2009/04/shai.png

A very elegant look and I agree with the above. I'm going to shamelessly promote the following blog which I read avidly, which is a real education for men in SL in how to style themselves. My defence is I don't actually own or write for the blog! (a single article aside). www.second-man.com

Yes, that's a nice built shape! Compliments for the way you found a skin with facial hair that go so well with your hair color! I guess you have some prims, but the eyebrows and the rest blend in well. (This reply was to Lewis)

Very smart, yes. Quite tempted to purchase an outfit...but if I was going to nitpick the shape I'd say the legs are a tad too long and the waist a smidgen too small

From: Marianne Little So guys, why don't you trash that old bulky "bodybuilder on steroids" shape? Never had one in the first place. A lean "swimmer's body" has always been my preference. The 'Triangle Man' look is just... eh. Formal look: http://www.flickr.com/photos/skelldagger/3341351847/in/set-72157617057242180/Full-length and a touch more scruffy: http://www.flickr.com/photos/skelldagger/3456269926/in/set-72157617057242180/

No offense but I've seen handsomer. Although that av happened to be run by a RL female too...lol. How do I know? She was on voice. It was not in 'that' type of context she voiced for expediency sake and language problems sake.
The guy in the pic is a bit blah; his face isn't very good and I'm not a fan of stubble. It reminds me of Fred Flintstone. The tux is really good, though.
Oh and I prefer a more realistic male shape for avs in SL (or actually males in RL too) than the 'roid look. Why do some think a caricature is hot?

Great pics, Lewis, and yum, your shape is quite pleasing! FYI - your link did show up as a link for me. If it doesn't for you, you might need to install the greasemonkey add on (I think it's just for Firefox, but I'm not sure) which can be found in the stickie at the top of the Resident Answers page...

I guess you have some prims, but the eyebrows and the rest blend in well. YES! It took a long time to find that skin and its the ONLY one I could find anywhere on the grid that matches my hair colour, made by Signature, now discontinued and discounted to L$250 hidden away in a quiet corner of their old store. I don't think I will ever change this skin (unless maybe Signature do an upgrade for it). http://www.sluniverse.com/snapzilla_snapshots/Lewis_Luminos_flannel_shirt_337104.jpgThat pic shows the skin better without the extra facial fuzz. ETA: I'll pass on the Greasemonkey thing. I tried to install a Greasemonkey script for Plurk and it all went horribly, horribly wrong. I'm not tech-minded enough for that sort of thing.

That avatar should stand closer to the razor when shaving.

It's Lewis' av? I thought it was run by a woman? Oh well...
While on the topic would someone - a skin maker - please find it in their heart to release a new male, full perm skin? Every newbie male is wearing "Steve."
Just a thought.

Oh okay thanks. It's nice to see hair colors other than black in SL although I like black hair too. I think ginger hair is pretty also, I know it might not have an easy time of it in other countries.

A nice shape - certainly a lot better looking than those 7ft 6in beefsteaks with biceps bigger than my thighs.

Adam'n Eve has some new skins for real redheads and blonde men Oh yes, I must say that it's only the first blog link that goes to an avatar run by a female blogger. Every time I see a male avatar that's avoided the stereotype; broad shoulders with a wasp waist and black hair, I turn my camera after him and just sigh. It is not enough of them. Men's second style was mentioned, but I read this blog too: http://www.slmen.com/I pass over the links to these 2 blogs to every man I meet who shows interest in getting beyond the Freebie islands.

Normal looking men....what a concept~!! LOL Ya know.....I've tried encouraging such behavior.....but it just never works. With the exception of my most recent job (and only because I used the avatar I made of my bf to tweek a bit and give to this guy) every time a guy wants a custom avatar........he wants it to look like Lou Ferrigno! I have this book here at home that I just dug out while looking for my astrology book .... it's called "Who Are" You? 101 Ways of Seeing Yourself" by Malcolm Godwin. And in this book (which is really interesting read) there's a section for both men and women.....where in it shows 4 images.... titled as follows (they use computer generated avatars for images too lol) according to gender....... As you really are as you think you are as you think women/men prefer you as women/men would prefer you And guess what.........the guy's images show the man looking much bulkier in the third figure 'as you think women prefer you'. So.....it only stands to REASON that a female would create a much more reasonable and realistic male form......and (hint hint guys) that we women find much more appealing.

I have the same complaint about many women in SL. I'm just not attracted to 7' tall amazons with meter long toothpick thin legs, zeppelin breasts, and armor spikes sticking out of their thigh length boots and wrist bands. Yes, I am well aware they may not be women at all and I'm not looking to jump on a pose ball with anyone. It's just nice once in a while to interact with a few normal looking or even a bit Rubenesque ladies who are not all sleazed out. Were it not for these tastful people, I might not have stayed in SL.

I've always made my own shapes. My male avatar is fit, but not bodybuilder (uck), and yes my female av has large breasts, but they are given gravity and seperation so as no not 'float at the chin,' they look natural and most people compliment me on my shapes. For the record, I'm a rl male, so not all of us are useless in the shape area. As far as heights, my male avatar is about 6' 2" without shoesies if I recall, and my female av is 5' 10" but goes down to 5' 3" at times. Both of those shapes modelled off large (but natural) chested porn stars (Gianna Micheals and Ricki Raxxx). My first shape was based off a sci fi actress's shape at 5' 1" if I recall the height right, but people assumed I was a teen (Gigi Edgley).
