I like the flexiprims of AD's hair...to me, the movement is the most realistic I've seen.
However, I don't like some of their colors and textures all that much.

As for the separate bangs...it's possible to edit the hair and bang into a single object, saving that attachment point. Here's what I do...

1. Do any editing needed on the hair and bang for size/position.
2. Stand on a pose stand.
3. Make a copy of the hair and the bang for safety.
4. Wear the hair and the bang
5. Rez a copy of the bang on the ground nearby.
6. Move the copy-bang into position so it overlaps the bang on your head.
7. Do the same for a copy of the main hair object.
8. Detach the copies of the hair and bang that you are wearing, leaving the copies that are correctly positioned, but not actually attached to you.
9. Select the bang object and hair object and Link them. Be careful to keep the same root prim as the original hair.
10. Take the edited hair into inventory and save it with a new name, like "ADedited".
11. Now Wear the newly created hair-and-bang. Adjust position if needed.

Wow, thanks, Lindal! Will have to try that. I got the color HUD changer for my Analog Dog hair and sometimes get the slightly mismtached shades of bangs & hair. :o

I have a new fav I thought I would mention. I love Refuge. I've seen there stuff on On Rez and went to check it out yesterday. They have some great clothing designs as well, but the hair is fabulous!

I love the shades of hair from gurl6.

I went to cake based upon the recommendations read in this thread and was a little surprised at the prices. Why would they charge 475 for hair when everybody else is in the 200 range?

And the winner is

Whew!! I'm exhausted. I've been shopping for two days and spent far more money than I should. I love it!

Here are the results of my unscientific poll. I tallied how many times each place was mentioned in the 53 posts. I visited all of those mentioned at least 3 times as well as a couple others. I tried to list basic information including price and what you get for that. I got the SLURL for them as well.

Unfortunately ETD, the clear winner, is closed until 2/8. Since, I've never been there I couldn't share a SLURL. I have to wait a full week to visit :-(

So here is the info. Have fun shopping:

Thanks for putting together the summary, Monica!

Unfortunately, "best" is a very objective criterion, and I don't have the time to shop that Monica does. So may I refine the question a bit?

Who does the best hair that's long, NOT disheveled or flyaway, and DOESN'T have bangs falling in your eyes?

I've seen a lot of pretty styles out there, but almost none that are appropriate for my persona. My hair is butt-length in real life, so most of what gets called long here makes me stare in confuzzlement, and most of the really long styles I've found look like they were designed for pole dancers -- which is great if you're a pole dancer, I guess, but I'm not. *g* Calla has a few I like (Clove, the Ferns, and Laurentine) but none of them fit my head, and they have too many prims for me to edit them myself. I'm hesitant to spend $400 on a custom-fitted hair just because I can't find anything better (especially since I'd still have to get rid of the bangs).

Any recommendations would _deeply_ appreciated. I've been living for months now with prim hair and a freebie ponytail because of this.

Hair is so personal, one person's must have is another's don't want.

My favorite is Deviant Kitties. Tons of styles and tons of colors. Calico Creations is really good too and I got a nice dreadlock pony tails from Soulfire. They had a few other styles as well.

I also got a couple cute styles at Wilted Rose and Inspired as well.

Of course my requirements for hair are a bit different from others - there has to be a purple color option.
Also picked up some nice hair at Wrong when they had their sale going on.

I have a really nice long style from Zero Style called Miyabi. It's pretty long, comes in a bunch of colors, has three sizes in the pack, and is reasonably priced. It's flexy, so it moves nicely, but in a natural way. I like the silky-looking texture and the way it sort of flows when I move. It's in the left-hand alcove as you enter the store, I believe. Here's a few pics I took of it, to show how it looks: (Sorry, it's a bit big.)

Very long, straight hair with few bangs that you can just edit away?

Two styles come to mind:

Digit Darkes' "Fantasy" style. It has a few bangs, easily removed. I got this ages ago, so if it's been retired, I wouldn't be amazed, but take a look.

Mau & Mej's "Kala" style. I had to edit the prims around the head a little bit to cover more of my slightly bulgy head, but it was only 3 prims. She has other, thicker long straight styles too, but this one is very simple.

Wilted Rose also does a lot of simple flat hair, probably does a long style.

If you want a long curly style that isn't very flyaway, you might look at some of Analog Dog's older styles, tho they may not be long enough for you.

I'm also a compulsive hair shopper. I found one style I really liked at Gurlywood, but it took hours of searching for the right one and trying on endless demos. I went a bit wild at the $L25 sale at ETD, but in the end I find myself wearing only one or two of those. I also really like several styles I got from Zero Style, but I found the reds overly bright, they light up at night!

After many hours (weeks?) of searching, the most detailed hair I found was the $L400 ones at RAC.
I am hesitant to spend that much for just one color in one style, but I have yet to find anything that looks as good on me with the high level of texture detail the RAC hair has.

You all stole my favorites!!! :) I'll add that Cornelia Rothschild does, hands down, the best historical hair sets I've seen yet.

I liked naughty for the longest time.....

But then found Zero and was hooked

And my most recent is from Shop Seu, he/she only has a couple styles, but was one of those I saw it on someone and had to have it. Normally that happens and I'm back to Zero the next day, but been pleased with this for several weeks so guess it's staying.

Late to this thread, but my favorites are RaC and Sirena. Having far too much fun with the scripted hairs from Sirena. And I *LOVE* the realism of the RaC hair.

The Sirena scripted hairs are pretty nice! I like their red and brown textures, and all of RaC's. However, my favorite blond textures are GurL 6 and Calico Creations. Can you tell I change my hair color a lot? I think I have some kind of hair fetish. Maybe because my hair in RL isn't so great and will never be long and "flowing"...lol

/me has always liked Panache..

I love Panache! BUT I went every week for about 6 months straight and never saw anything new, and finally stopped going... are they still around? Are they still making hair or new product?

Here's my dilemma...

Love Panache as stated... but stopped going when after months there was nothing new to purchase =/

Love ETD but and have them all but still never satisfied with the texture color choices =/

Love Gurl6 but not so much the hair textures, but the styles are awesome!

Love Armidi's hair textures and color choices but not so much the "cover girl" hair styles

Love HCT also but hard to find a "calmer" style when in a calmer mood hehe

Ooo Kin is also pretty awesome!

so many good designers but none of them seem to ME to give the total package =/

So many people comment that there are too many hair designers or they all look the same etc, I believe there is an entire market still left open for someone to take it over :)
