Useless feature that doesn't work properly half of the time. Focus on something and then pan away, see how the target remains your focus point.
Here is how to disable it for those that want to cam without paranoia's IMing them:
- Emerald tab page 1 - Shields - Uncheck "Broadcast camera focus point and pointer target"

From: Tiffy Vella This is getting so hilarious..the paranoia caused by so many tools and so much info and the sheer preciousness of some people. Aren't we all here to look, be looked at? Hullo--that's why we bother having avatars at all.
Lately, I find myself being ultra-careful when camming about at home, in case I accidentally click into a neighbours home and they think I'm perving. So I've gotten a complex over the fact that someone *may* get a complex if they see my crosshairs in their house. Ack...turning the rotten thing off. They can't help it. They aren't used to having someone look at them, never coming out of the basement and all.

A minor point: I agree entirely about the stupidness of the paranoia, and even the notion that the Emerald viewer gives TMI . . .
But the feature that tells you who is looking at you does have some utility when dealing with stalkers. I've known a number of instances of stalkers who stationed themselves out of sight, and used the cam controls to spy on their victims from a distance.

I cam all over the place. If my cam happens to focus on an avie while I wide zoom the SIM ohhh well. Let them think I'm perving. The particle stream is too handy when I want to point something out to a friend for me to turn off broadcasting.
Isn't just as much of an invasion of privacy to spy on people's focus points? More so in fact? If I were camming Bri would it be any of this Sidney xxx's business? Hell no. It might be Angel's business but well there's another thread.
BTW-I turned on the cross hairs a couple of times and it drove me crazy. It takes a special kind of insecurity to need to have that thing on all the time.

In the case of dealing with stalkers it would be a great tool to have. My "BTW" comment was not meant toward anyone who might be facing that situation. ED- Then again a stalker could just turn off broadcasting

I find the look at feature helps when collaborating on a build with people. It gives you more insight into what the other person is doing or thinking. And if I can see exactly where they are looking I can understand better when they make comments on the build.

You know.. if you wanna be stared at, wear a sign that says, "Don't Look At Me." If you don't wanna be stared at, wear one that says, "Look At Me." Mind you I don't know how well this will work in SL, but I know how well it works in RL with kids

From: Raudf Fox I love Emerald to death, but yes, I could do without the paranoia stuff.
I don't care WHO looks at me, doesn't matter what I am doing, as long as they just look. I don't wanna hear from them about what I'm doing at the moment, unless it's like, "missed a texture," or "there's a trick to doing that kind of building, wanna learn it?" frankly I dont mind being perv cammed, bring it on... no longer broadcasting

no longer broadcasting When one stops broadcasting, one ends up staring stupidly ahead all the time. It's enough to make one look a bit vacuous.

Tell them there's a scripting function called llStopLookAt (true) and if they learn to script maybe they can figure out a way to make people stop staring at them (total BS).

No one knows of anything that blocks radar, do they?

I told my bots what you said about them - that they stare "stupidly" ahead all the time - and they are offended. They asked me to tell you that they stand with style, aloof from all that's going on around them, and they definitely don't wish to be confused with lesser beings, such as those who think they stare "stupidly".
That's what they asked me to pass on - it's nowt to do with me.

Lol, Bri. Some peeps, sheesh. I'd make a notecard on disabling the feature to see who's looking, and drop it on them. From: Raudf Fox I love Emerald to death, but yes, I could do without the paranoia stuff.
I don't care WHO looks at me, doesn't matter what I am doing, as long as they just look. I don't wanna hear from them about what I'm doing at the moment, unless it's like, "missed a texture," or "there's a trick to doing that kind of building, wanna learn it?" Lear stares at you and sez "Ooooh baby, you're HAWT! Do that thing you do again!" From: Chris Norse "Mom, shes looking at me!" "Mom, hes on my side!" "Shes looking at me again!" Lol From: Ricky Shaftoe I'm pretty sure you can disable the feature that reveals your lookat target. Somewhere in Edit/Preferences, under the Emerald tab, there's an option to uncheck 'broadcast viewer info' or some such. Yeah, but then the people you WANT to see you're staring at them won't! From: Carter Denja I want people to look at me, but I'm vain that way. Me too, though it creeps me if it's a guy. No matter that half the female avs are probably guys too. But, I consider this my own hangup, and not their problem. From: Love Hastings Never underestimate the ability of the stupid to use whatever tools they have available. In new and even more stupid ways. Good one From: Tiffy Vella Lately, I find myself being ultra-careful when camming about at home, in case I accidentally click into a neighbours home and they think I'm perving. So I've gotten a complex over the fact that someone *may* get a complex if they see my crosshairs in their house. Ack...turning the rotten thing off. Yeah, I started doing that. Then I took a chill pill and said the hell with it, it's my cam, I can't be bothered with that crap!

I still won't turn my back on them though. I can imagine them all starting to shuffle forward mumbling 'bottybottybottybotty' like something from Dr Who. That creeps me out a bit.
