doing away with text chat?

i hear a rumor that LL will do away with text chat and only make it voice, is this true?

There's a lot of anti-Voice sentiment on the forums...Michael is one of the few proponents.

I was being silly. I'm pro-voice...it's just ironic.

I hereby declare today to be Groundless Rumor Day in the forums. Best rumor gets a biplane - I found a note in my plane that describes how to transfer it to someone else and asks very politely that it be distributed freely, but not sold, so the winner has to promise to not sell it, but my periodic contests where you can win 3L and a biplane are back on!

I'll go first. I heard a rumor that LL is selling SL to Exxon/Mobil, who intends to drill for oil offshore to the NW of the Mainland and run single hull tankers throughout SL's oceans. GreenSLeace is staging protests later today.

I was thinking something similar.

I heard the rumor that all private sims will be deleted and that everyone has to go back to the mainland....

It may well be LL's plan to do away with text chat. However that would be inadvisable at the present time as voice is simply not reliable. I have voice enabled. I want to use it. But most times it plain and simply doesn't work. Without text chat, I'd be reduced to passing around notecards or using Skype.

Is this unfounded rumor day or something? Where is this stuff coming from?

Yes, everyone knows text is history, and reading and writing are outmoded quaint methods of communicating, and as such, it is the responsibility of Linden Labs to ensure these antique tools are put out to pasture. As such they are also going to take away all text based forums and blogs and web pages and make everything on the web pure voice and webcam. Why deal with computer generated graphics and text and virtual worlds when you can have the real world right there on your desktop?

Yes it is. Please see post #8. Right now Morwen has taken an early lead with his private sim rumor, which was well done. Simple, to-the-point yet vague enough to be untraceabe, designed to cause widespread panic. I think it can be beaten, though.

Edit - two other rumors popped up while I was posting. Lindal and Oryx both brought their A games and are also very strong contenders.

I heard on Glen Beck that Bush plans to use Second Life to train American soldiers in foreign relations. If this new project takes off, all those without a dot over there head will be tried for treason.

Booyah!! Michael Bigwig swinging for the outfield fence! Dang. That's a good one. Especially given that the Army uses a video game as a recruiting tool already. Check out American Army. Its a first person shooter similar to Counterstrike but backed by the US Army who sees it as a means to recruit new soldiers.

Only partially correct. Starting September 1, text chat will be pay-per-word, to help enhance the L$ sinks.

Oh come on, at least make them believable. At 330m, that would require crossing at least one sim boundary, making any such enterprise practically impossible.
