Is it legal to have private sex, in one's home?

On mature land?
If a cutie wants to cuddle and even bump pixels, will I be safe from LL harm to do it in the privacy of my SL bedroom?
Yes, I know there is no such thing as privacy in SL.
But in my limited reading of the new rules of Adult/mature/PG, the descriptions are all about businesses and business events/advertising. What about one-on-one interactions that are just personal? Or one-on-three? Or one-on-one with a dragon and a neko and a tiny thrown in?
If I send an IM out in a group asking for people to join me in a party at my place, is that advertising? I'm not selling anything. Nor promoting anything, other than my stature as a hot dude. : )
What's the answer?

You mean is it within the TOS? Linden Labs doesn't make laws. I believe it is withing the TOS on mature land - as long as that land is not listed in search. I am less certain about how much you need to hide it. People have told me everything from hide it in a room with no windows to rez the sex bed at ground on an otherwise empty parcel next to an infohub and go at it - cause its not commercial and not in search. Obviously I don't believe the truth is either of those two extremes.

Yes you should be fine, indoors and in private. However, as Pussycat says, what constitutes private is a very grey area.
It's my understanding that sex out in the open (which I interpret as visible from other parcels without camming) on Mature land has never technically been allowed, it's just that the rule was never really enforced. Another grey area is what constitutes advertising - I am sure I read a Linden statement somewhere that word-of-mouth could constitute advertising. There's never been a clear answer on how many people you are allowed to invite into your bed at once before you are considered public. Commercial or not makes no difference - some people got the land swap for free public content.
What a mess!

I believe that a Linden clarified in recent months that pixel sex is NOT allowed in your home "behind closed doors" because someone could cam in there and see it. There is no such thing as "in private". Here are some current references on the subject: From: Second Life Community Standards http://secondlife.com/corporate/cs.phpSecond Life is an adult community, but "Adult" content, activity and communication are not permitted on the Second Life "mainland." Such material is permitted on private regions, or on the Adult Continent, Zindra. In either case, any Adult content, activity, or communication, that falls under our Adult Maturity Definition must be on regions designated as "Adult," and will be filtered from non-verified accounts. I believe the Linden's also recently stated that sex poseballs are not allowed anywhere on Mainland (except Zindra, of course). This was not in reference to sales or public events. Also note that "content" includes Chat, Voice, Gestures, Animations, Textures, etc. No more sex on Second Life, except in Adult-designated private island or Zindra. This is a major change from the previous policy of allowing such things in Mature regions behind closed doors. However, LL asserts that this is not a policy change and it has always been this way.

From: sable Valentine And.... they expect folks to flock to mainland. Yeah, right They expect that Mainland is a safe introductory environment for "young schoolchildren" and "businesses" visiting Second Life, and that some limited kinds of content might be made available there. And the purpose of SL is Education and Business. If you want "adult" activity, that's what Zindra was created for. It's a new SL, folks. That's what all the excitement is about.

If you are right, that has changed very recently. Blondin said ... From: someone Sex beds in a private home, skins, and the such are all fine and would not have to move. and Pete Linden said ... From: someone -- What about adult activity in private on the mainland? e.g. Is Linden Lab making rules about what I can do in my own house on the Mainland? Nope. We are talking about public behavior and events, businesses and listings that are meant to drive explicit sexual and violent activity. http://www.keepandshare.com/doc/view.php?id=1213791&da=yHooray for slapt.me for archiving this stuff! It is of concern to me how difficult it is to find, and that this is not clearly written into the CS. The only _official_ reference of any kind that I can find is where it says in the knowledge base, "Any Region must be designated Adult and therefore require account verification, if it advertises or publicly promotes the following" https://support.secondlife.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=4417&task=knowledge&questionID=6010further down that page it says to look at the FAQ for further clarification on public and private, but when you go to the FAQ there is no mention of it.

The good news is the Mainland is deserted. Do anything you want for as long as you want. What are the odds another avatar will appear on your radar during the extent of your fun?

That is absolutely NOT what the Lindens have said in any official replies I have read, anywhere. What they have said is, despite how badly it is worded, that the Community Standards citation is referring to ADVERTISED and publicly open Adult Content. The have repeatedly stated that it will remain allowable for individuals to rez adult pose balls and use adut animations within an enclosed space on their own parcel, on Mature land.

no one inworld is taking this seriously. Some adult clubs, having been shut out by thier sister ones that stayed on mature land have moved back and are in operation again, leaving zindra land open for sale i imagine.
All this is why im waiting on this account to find out what the hell the enforcment and rulings are going to be. I got killed playing by the rules... because right now except for the dummies who followed the rules, everyone else I know of is back to mature land and doing business to grab every possible account they can in income and traffic.
now i know some of you have made a fairly good swap but these are people i suspect who are "mainland" orientated in the first place. or build their builds so as theres no outside interference (why no doors to get out?)
Its still the wild wild west out there in mature land, at least it is on the estates. I stay away from mainland as much as possible. Although i'd be a bit distressed wth all the yellow on the map if I where LL. Hopefully they'll do a PR blitz and bring in say 20K new members.
call me crazy, (most of you do) but this inequaility on ratings needs to be addressed and SOON.

They have *just* started sending out warning letters and taking action on people still on mature land. They have not done it before now, since the initial wave of moving commercial places to Zindra was still ongoing, and auctions have not yet occured for the remaining land. As noted here: http://www.sluniverse.com/php/vb/virtual-business/8523-new-second-life-sims-past-18.html#post774641http://www.sluniverse.com/php/vb/virtual-business/8523-new-second-life-sims-past-18.html#post774641250 estates converted to Adult just this past week. So the situation until now has been "not started enforcing the new rules yet", and just in the last week or so it has moved to "warning letters, full enforcement in September sometime". How strict they will be is still an open question.

they said it wouldn't start to be enforced until we had to agree to the new TOS when they have the mandatory viewer update..
Still puzzled me why they changed the CS as early as they did..

From: DanielRavenNest Noe They have *just* started sending out warning letters and taking action on people still on mature land. Just to be very clear, given the OP, I believe that letters are sent to, and actions are taken on, *businesses* that advertise adult content on mature land, not on "people" (who may simply have adult pose balls/ furniture/art/etc.. in their homes). .

if they have these things outside then they would be warned even on the old CS..I don't believe certain things were allowed outside before either..
