speaking of... is there a way to change the preset command hotkeys in the viewer? some of them are simply not usable at all unless you have an american keyboard...

I have an older HP laptop with Intel GMA915. It has the same badly rendered fonts as brand new ATI cards: http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-3947. Besides that it runs more or less ok with a non windlight viewer. And unlike ATi cards it indeed doesn't crash ;)

For the sculpties, they were implemented sometime in these older viewer versions, I don't recall exactly when and what, but mileage may vary with the display. 1.19 should actually display them properly.

Well things got even weirder, but I am pleased. After uninstalling the crashing CoolViewer (v1.22), I installed the latest regular SL viewer, which runs just fine (well, a little slower). After that I started up the pre-windlight CoolViewer and the sculpties I had a problem with, now display fine. So I am happy!

Mind you, it were definately not all sculpties, only relative new meshes. Planes with quite some room between them, like 4 plants a meter apart from eachother, in 1 prim. Regular 1 prim plant shapes displayed just fine. Anyway, problem solved!

Yes, you can change the shortcuts if you want in C:\Program Files\CoolViewer\skins\default\xui\en-us\menu_viewer.xml. There look for something like shortcut="control|U"

After my PC decided to cooperate again after a killer harddisk failure here finally comes a new version of the Rainbow Viewer.

This new Release 2 comes with RLV 1.17 and almost all the features of the latest Cool Viewer but with the official SL user interface. For the ones who like it .

http://my.opera.com/boylane/blog/rainbow-viewer

New features you will like: Teleport by double clicking on a location in visible range and Avatar UUID in the profile panel. The installer tries now to get all the non-redistributable files automatically from an existing viewer installation (thanks GLE ). The Avatar scanner is still in work but may be included soon.

Many more changes under the hood. For details please see the latest Release Notes: http://coolviewer.googlecode.com/files/releasenotes_RV_1.22.11.0_R2.txt

Enjoy,
Boy

Following up on that other weird griefer viewer thread I still struggle to make sense of; I've updated the recent viewer links with checksums. So you can verify that you've downloaded a legitimate installer or perhaps some fake manipulated renamed malware viewer.

Just as a warning. It will still take your password you type in together with your AV name and send it straight through the interwebz to SL. If you don't want that please don't use CV or RV or or or :D

That's the consequence of naming issues based on LL's trademarks on "SL" and "Secondlife". All details are explained on my blog.

What it means is that Cool Viewer / Rainbow Viewer will from now on be forks and no longer supported by Henri.

Rainbow Viewer 1.23
06-17-2009 11:21
People start asking, and I don't want to leave you out in the dark :).

The Lab pushed some premature software, the 1.23.4 viewer, out to get their adult policy implemented at whatever cost, purely political and ignoring all damage it does to users. But that's nothing new and basically what we all had expected anyway.

I'm not supporting anything 1.23 in the moment and I can only recommend everybody *NOT* to *update* to that piece of cr*ppy software. It is not ready for prime time and it will cause you nothing but problems and reduced functionality. Stay away from 1.23, there is NO reason to *update* (eehhhh..downgrade...).

History repeats itself here....LL doesn't give a sh*t on it's users as they did in the past with lousy viewers they forced to the hands that feed them.

You didn't catch the Linden reply in sldev? They are exceedingly proud of this release! In fact, they are miffed that anyone could possibly think that it was released early.

EDIT: Ugh oh! I see that you have now seen the sldev post AND replied to it :p

I upgraded after getting a TP rejection to Zindra when I was on 1.22 Cool Viewer.

Since Boy Lane isn't upgrading, I had to go to Cool SL Viewer. So far, so good.

For all who still don't want to bite the evil bullet and move to 1.23, I've just updated the Cool Viewer to v1.22.11.0 R10. Comes with full adult compliance, new radar, RLV 1.22 and a number of other changes. An OpenGL version I'll make in the next days, and a new Rainbow release is coming soon :). Link in my sig.

Boy, I saw you put out a Rainbow 1.19.5 for netbooks. I'm using the CV 1.19.5R59 on my desktop. Should I keep that, or would the netbook version be of any benefit to me?

@Brenda
If your desktop has a SSE2 capable CPU (that is not an AthlonXP or PIII) I don't see a reason why it should not work and work even faster than R59. I tried to build the netbook viewer with Atom CPU optimizations using the Intel compiler but it turned out to be slower, so the current version is optimized using VS and should run on all SSE2 and better machines.

The only difference you will see is that most things are smaller and rearranged (text, floaters, tools etc.) to fit on the smaller netbook screen. On the other hand this gives you more screen real estate.

You can always return back to the older version by just installing it over.

It's a P4. I'll give it a try...thanks.

New Netbook Viewer 1.2 is up with the 1.23.5 security fixes as well as a new CV 1.22.11.0 R10a with the OpenGL graphic fixes and optimizations (not only) for ATi users :).
