From: Bagushii Kohime Not necessarily advisable to do anything they can counter-AR you with. Especially if they happen to be underage. I'd love to be the Linden to take that AR. AR2921011: Help Help! I was trying to annoy this person by trespassing and not leaving their property. So anyways after a few days of my doing this to her she put on a very realistic looking male attachment and started waving it in my face! I think the experience has traumatized my poor little mind. I'm becoming very confused as to my sexuality. Please you must protect me! Think of the children! The children being me in particular.

Here's an idea: RELAX
IT'S ONLY PIXELS. It's not like someone actually saw you naked.

Well to start with;
1: SL is not like real life.
I always find me a good silent spot to undress and such. If someone finds me, and starts staring at my butt, then I let them. I take the responsibility to change out of sight. peeping toms should do whatever they like. It's just pixels.
2: sandboxes!!!!
Go to any sandbox, go up as far as 3000 to 4000 meters, and rezz a cube there. From that platform you can place a pose stand, and redress. chances are nobody will find you. They can see you on the map, but they can't see at what height you are from the minimap. Some use radars to spot people, but you can take that for granted.
3: Use changing-room islands.
There are female only islands. These kick any male off the map, and let females change their outfits quietly in their "private" changing room. Just like RL. Nobody will see your pixely butt cheeks.
4: If you keep running from someone, they might have tracked you somehow. I don't know how, but if I'm teleporting to nowhere land, the one following you will not know your destination. It's impossible, or they track you somehow.
5: buy a closed trailer/house/cube/thing. Rezz it where it's allowed, and walk in, close the door,/lid/whatever, and you will be inside your private cube, no windows, nothing.
I think about making such a portable changing room. build anything handy in it. I really wish LL would add mirror support. that would be neat.

Here is what ya do. Hit me up ingame and I'll take you to get this. There is an ability on one of the Dragonball Z islands called Ki Blast you can get for free. Next time someone follows ya around bump that baby to level 3 and hit them with it. It's a nice little energy ball that will send that sucker flying to the other side of the island. You will enjoy kicking his behind and sooner or later he will get a clue. lol

I have one that cages a person, and then you can toss the cage around a bit, making them fly off the sim. But in most places combat is not allowed, and then you turn up to be the one banned

From: Bagushii Kohime Not necessarily advisable to do anything they can counter-AR you with. Especially if they happen to be underage. Honestly, just find something like a dragon avatar. A quick drag of a single folder and *poof* most wanna-be-romeos will get the hint. Plus, no chance of an AR. Or if they did decide to try an AR, I'd *really* love to be a Linden taking that one. "Hi, umm.. yeah, I was making some sweet moves on this girl but she suddenly turned into a dragon and threatened to swallow!"

From: Paracelsus Schonberg The matter of being stalked, or tracked, does come up regularly in the forums. Does anyone else think it might be a good idea to post a sticky at the top of the forum to give advice on how to handle this? That sounds like a great idea. I've been stalked a few times lol...after my first few months I steered away from having a "pretty-boy" av ever since. Turning down advances from "women" who made advances & got mad when I turned them down at every club I went to got old, even as hilarious as it was. The only thing that finally annoyed me was that they would cause a scene & wouldn't just drop it...the rejection embarassed them I guess, haha I've also had a stalker who just followed me around SL, spying on me to see where I went & what I was saying when I was away from our usual group. I just ignored it the 1st week, second week enough was enough though & I called them out. So happened I had a few "friends" who knew about it even before I did. Somebody monitoring you for more than a week in a game or SL is just a little weird to say the least.

"Hi, umm.. yeah, I was making some sweet moves on this girl but she suddenly turned into a dragon and threatened to swallow!" Well, I guess the point here really is: IRL a lot of women feel extremely violated, intimidated and powerless against sexual harassment because of the (implied) threat of physical violence. Many women also have deeper psychological issues, such as past abuse, that serve to deepen these feelings. Many people in SL are new to computer games and are not desensitized to the stimuli they provide (think about a person who hasn't seen a television and are watching it for the first time: they literally jump to the walls). It's completely useless to tell them "to just relax". It's also completely irrelevant *which* exact counteraction they take, they may put on the dragon av or the male organ or whatever. The most important thing is they do *something* and break the freezing in terror reaction they are having, which is very real. But while they are doing it, it should be kept PG. It's just dumb to give the griefer a screenshot of your av waving a dick at the griefer's kid av's face, because with bad luck and a pro griefer you might get in trouble for that, and for nothing.

From: Scott Savira Some people get off on being stalked.
Just saying... >_> ? If it is consensual or welcome it is hardly stalking. Actual stalking is not exciting. It's a nightmare.

Ah yes, privacy in SL. In Snow Crash, you could rez into your "deck" (your own computer) instead of the Metaverse (what Second Life is copying). Why this option, or any other option to enter a really "private area" in SL, isn't considered a high priority by Linden Labs... I don't know. http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SVC-1138

From: Crystal Falcon Oh and be SO glad friends can't "map" you anymore, yes, as a verb! It used to be any of them could TP right to where you were without so much as a by your leave. I was just thinking that! I used to have a million people on my friends list for no reason, and I'd be working on a skin or something and people would just pop up out of no place. Some of them were really immature and would start freaking out "OMG U R NAKIE!!1"

From: Aeslyn Dae I know what you mean, and understand people's need for privacy and peace and quiet on the land they're paying tier for - but you can't blame new people for attempting to look around, try things out and explore (as long as they're polite about it). As newly joined residents, that's what we're encouraged to do from the outset, and yet there isn't really any obvious way to see which land and builds are public and put there for people to explore, or which are private property. The map doesn't help and often the land info doesn't make it clear, even if new folk have discovered how to check that. I remember as a newbie getting very frustrated when I bumped into ban lines and not being able to distinguish which areas I was 'allowed' to wander around. Ecko, I found a reasonably quiet and peaceful sandbox I sometimes use where you can open boxes and try clothes or have a go at building etc. I've never been bothered there. If you'd like a LM just send me an IM and I'll drop it on you. -- Aes As a Noob, I was curious to see what some of the houses were like inside. However, I would always make sure that I looked for a "Available for Lease" sign before I would even think of entering. Just saying, that maybe some would be "intruders" aren't trying to be invasive, they're just honestly curious and don't realize that it's a private residence. Maybe some "private property" or "No trespassing" should be put up for it to be very obvious that some locations are off limits.

I don't mind people wandering around on my properties. I welcome people to look at the art that is on display. Just don't be shocked - it IS an art gallery and nudity is in evidence. Galleries are at 1500 metres. Also on the ground and dotted around. I often wont bother with clothes on my own land so dont get your knickers in a twist if I am naked.
Dont leave garbage lying around.
But none of my land is "off-limits"

Mainland is more unprivate as opposed to private islands being alot of new people will fly around the mainland exploring. A good tip. don't make any "picks" at your home location because it will give where you live away. Another thing, adding no trespassing signs or whatnot in alot of instances would be inviting them to do so. Spying and pervs and annoyers in SL is just part of the world. Though its nowhere near as bad as it was a few years back. Sandboxes are a "nono" place to change if your looking for privacy. Your best bet is to find a low traveled dressing room thats free. some charge a few Lindens but nothing more than $10L a half hour really. One of my old favorite dressing rooms which was always pretty quiet was B@reRose's dressing room(so beautiful too). Girls only and a lovely place and I think (but aint sure) they have oncall security. After being in SL for a while not much will surprise you anymore, believe me

From: Regan Forsythe Maybe some "private property" or "No trespassing" should be put up for it to be very obvious that some locations are off limits. It's true that one doesn't see many such signs around. Partly this is because residents recognize that SL is a land of many languages, and partly this is because many people would deliberately ignore such signs even if they did understand them. So that's why more people rely on security orbs that physically remove avatars, than on signs. Frankly I find the idea of 'privacy in SL' to be a bit silly. It's an inherently non-private environment. Even if you bounce every single avatar away from your property within a tenth of a second of their entering the airspace, you still can be watched by any LL employee who might conceivably care to surveil you. So...no, there's no 'privacy'. To me it makes more sense to just accept this, rather than to fret about it. But: to each his own belief system.

You have to wonder if when LL advertises for new job applicants, they list the voyeuristic possibilites among the perks... (But seriously, I expect the average Linden is kept too busy to have time to watch avvies getting it on.) ((Also seriously: I fear I'm going to be wondering about that duck for some time to come. For instance, if it's a Spare, how many are In Use???))

Having just read Ecko's original post -- I'm amazed. I'm always amazed to hear about these various forms of harassment. I've been on SL for several years now (albeit, with long breaks at times), and I've never been followed, stared at, harassed or anything. In fact, it often seems pretty darn hard to find any people to interact with at all!
Is it because my avatar's a boy, and Ecko's is a girl?

I have so much art in my living room he thought it was the art gallery he'd heard about on my sim. (never mind that he was only about 50 meters away from the REAL art gallery, which has a sign on it saying ART GALLERY). I had to laugh, as could tell he really didn't mean any harm.

Ecko, even if you get rid of the sittable furniture in your box, an avatar can still get in.
Try this trick...rez your changing room, but with you outside. Rez a simple plywood cube. Sit on it. Right click the cube, open Edit. Using the position arrows, drag the cube, and yourself, through the wall and into your changing room.
There is NO guaranteed privacy in SL. However, as others have stated, there are lots of relatively safe places to change clothes, and you can even change in public without ever becoming naked. Plus, there are ways to deal with intruders...anything from friendly greetings and offers of friendship to ejecting, banning, muting, and Abuse Reporting. Depending on how nice or nasty said intruder turns out to be.
