Whoever programs shoes and feet, I would like to stick my RL foot in their RL butt.

Yes..
OK the avatars have horrendous feet, that is no secret.
But with shoes, what gives with some of them being expensive and no modify?
I bought some the other day that ran probably 2-300 linden, and of course they look stupid like they don't even cover my feet.
Is there a certain size that the avatars fet have to be in order for most if not all shoes to work right?
I tried to make mine proportinal to my avatar's height, 5'9", and thought I made the feet a 10 or 11 USA size women's which is about normal.
Are most shoes designed for tiny feet or something?
Why are SL shoes in general a pain in the ass?
AND - are bases interchangeable?

This is aggrivating as hell, please help.

be sure you are wearing the shoe base that matches the shoes you are wearing. they are not interchangeable. they make the foot shape and then the "shoe" covers that area with the color and detail. if you dont have the same base on as the shoes, your feet will not look right and parts will stick out as you described.

also you should make your feet size zero on the sliders.

Why so aggressive?
There is a considerable learning curve to becoming comfortable with SL. Some things you may not find out about for weeks, and then quite often by accident.

Asking questions here helps, of course. But to immediately blame other people for your noob-ness isn't exactly going to make your experience any easier or inspire others to help you out.

While there are a considerable number of issues and imperfections to the SL graphics, it would be less stressful for you if you first assume that you're missing some information before you threaten physical violence.

Just sayin

I think shoe designers just use size 0 because it would be a serious pain in the behind to make all those different sizes, and take up vast amounts of space in a shop. Regarding mod/no mod; most shoes have lots of differently sized prims, with some prims shrunk down to the minimal size. Even if the shoes are mod, you can't shrink the shoe any more than what the smallest sized prim will allow, if that makes sense. So the designer might as well make all shoes for size 0; I suppose if you WANTED to size up, you could, but I've honestly never really looked at someone's foot size, so size 0 seems to work for most people.

I do have a copy of my shape with "normal" sized feet if I ever feel like going barefoot, like at the beach or where ever, and I just switch over to that for those rare occasions.

I'm pretty aggressive on the subject of no-mod shoes, myself. I refuse to buy them anymore--I've wasted too many L$s on them. In fact, I refuse to buy anything from a store that sells no-mod shoes.

I do have one pair of script-resizable ones, but not all that thrilled with those, either. It's not as if they're doing their customers a favor: has anyone ever once resized an attachment without needing to also get into the editor to reposition it?

Yeah as if I am really gong to do what I said hahahahah...

OK feet are smaller, seems to work.
Just would be nice if the feet didn't have to be disproportionally smaller than the AV itself.

I've just been making various trainers and boots, primarily for my own wardrobe.
I go for the mixed system/prim design - where the uppers are textures applied to the shoe layer, while the soles, ankle roll and the laces bows are made from prims.

They might not be the best shoes in SL but they look surprisingly OK, especially the boots.

Yes, some standardization is necessary or there would be little if any shoe business in world at all. One nice thing to keep in mind if you want normal sized feet is to consider textured (like clothing) shoes.

If you have non mod shape you just can't...

You must must must wear the shoe base that comes with the shoes.......

No mod shapes are the devil. I don't understand why people buy them.

And, if the maker didn't think to include a version that would work with (hello!) the default shoe size of virtually EVERY shoe in SL, they're just not that bright.

And before you buy a tight skirt and go off on that...

Tight skirts look better with a size zero butt.

I keep a copy of my current shape with a zero butt to make it easier to change.

I have a "beach shape". Sounds weird? It's my usual shape with bigger feet, so they shall look proportional with the avatar body.

I go into edit appearance, increase foot size until I think it look good, and then "save as". I name it beach shape or naked foot shape. When I wear shoes, I always have size zero feet.

So, if I plan an evening at a beach, I just change to beach shape, unless I want to wear sandals...

It's my way to overcome the avatar imperfections. Since we talk about shapes, I assume you haven't heard about skirt shape? The system skirts, marked with a pink skirt symbol, make a butt look much bigger. The skirt shape is the usual shape, with a size zero butt.

The skirt shape is very common, but it's easy to forget that we had no idea about skirt shape or size zero feet when we started in SL.

Or just avoid system skirts altogether. :)

You could just avoid feet altogether. I hear floating metallic balls are all the rage in avatar design these days. *whistles*

This.

You will find all sorts of quirks and idiosyncracies in SL graphics wise, UI wise, and every other wise. Even a non computer person like me scratches her head sometimes and says "Why"?. Couple that with the lack of basic information in easily accesible places, and you can be banging your head on the desk fairly regularly. The best thng is to ask either inworld or here without geting to steamed up about it. You'll save yourself a little anxiety.

Without feet, I'd have nowhere to put my shoes. Well, unless LL brings the shoes-up-the-bum bug back...

And I do wear skirts, just not the system version. :p

Once the part is in a prim, the prim becomes the part. If there were a way to get rid of the foot altogether when attaching shoes, things would be fine. It's not like you can see a thing inside the bits & pieces anyway. (^_^)y

Some of my shoes are strappy and a lot of them show the top of the foot down to the start of where the toes would be if we actually had any. :p

Shoes are nightmares, I found very few that don't make me want to kick someone's butt
too that is why I am trying to figure out how to draw my own realistic shoes. Most shoe business in world need good butt kicking.

I had fun putting together an asian outfit lately and searched my inventory for some sandals to wear. Oddly enough, I had a pair. So I put them on. They didn't use a shoe base, just the bare avatar foot. They seemed rather nice. Not the best textures, but still... =^-^=

So I decided to inspect them and find out who made them so maybe I could follow the creator's picks and buy some more. (^_^)

..... I made them.... About 4 months ago. (=_=;

Huggles, I miss you and Etopia crowd and your scramble nights. How are you?
yep, and lot of those idiotic shoe sellers sell no mod shoes that only fit their feet or feet of a giant.
Some have nerve to charge 500 to 1000L for really cruddy shoes and get angry when you try to talk to them about how unsatisfied you are with their products if they respond at all.
One place was like I don't sell shoes for men, I got your money I don't care the shoes don't look right on your feet.
Some allow you to modify the size of shoe but if you have to do that you might as well make your own shoes.
There has been only one place I seen that has men and woman's shoes that work and in different sizes but I forgot the name of the place.

What we need is for J's to come out with a pair of their shoes that is essentially a realistic bare foot with the realistic toes they do. I keep going back but no dice so far :(

If they did that then going bare foot would be an entirely different proposition to what it is today.
It would especially excite the foot fetish people big time I would imagine. << >> Not that I would know anything about that .
