Carl, I always love your maps. Keep up the great work. It is appreciated!

Thank you very much.

I wish we could get the name of the #4 continent settled once and for all.

I plan to keep showing the three "semi-official" names on my map until general usage seems to coalesce around one of them.

Made me think that if we have an SL cartographer now - perhaps we should have an SL historian too to capture the important historical info that is in danger of being lost. As each oldie disappears that will get worse too.

We *sorta* had it in the SL History Wiki. Sadly, this merged with Wikia, and is now largely the "military groups in SL an trash talkin wiki" from looking at the usual updates. Kinda sad, really.

I've done another update of my "LL Mainland Continents" & "Sansara & Heterocera Atoll" maps. The in-world versions of these maps are server based (via Sasun Steinbeck's Kiosk.net--go buy it), and if you own one, it will update automatically.

I wiould like to see same level of detail given to each of the other continents.

I would really LOVE a master list that displayed by continent the sims with in it as well as an alphabetical list of all sims, and the continent on which they reside {including PG/M status). This in particutlar would be very helpful, but I understand it might be a bit to keep up to date.

Thanks

At any of the NCI Headquarters locations, I believe. I'll have to check when I am next in-world.

Fantastic work, Carl. You are to be applauded. The only problem I see is with the #4 continent which is correctly called Boomerangia. The _g_ is soft as in "gymnosperm." You're welcome :)

~~Maybe I should start "contributing" to wikis so this finally gets sorted out.

on the first map, the continent of Satori, you have the naming key as;
1.
3.
3.

I think maybe it should have been;
1.
2.
3.

Who reads Japanese? The name of the continent is right there, but in Japanese. Usagi? Make yourself useful ;)

The "Korean Continent" has its name, Jeogeot, written in Korean.

Since Magellan Linden has been found, once he acclimates to the changes, maybe he can name that stupid continent.

The Japanese text reads "hoomu", or, translated into English, "home".

The Korean text reads "shigu", but I could be wrong on that one.

As an aside: I noticed dat the "Imperial forest" is on the map. Is this still around? The sim does have some trees, but the land is largely that usual mix of commercial/residential.

I know of a couple points of interest dat could be added to it.

Thank you Carl!
As a RL cartographer, I’ve admired these maps from the moment I first saw them. They are very helpful in adding to the sensation of location and substance in our not so little virtual world. :)

I read the Korean as "chigu" but take it that it's close enough. Anglicizing spelling is an art form.

I've not been able to update the two maps over the past month or so as I'm in the middle of a big NCI-related project. However, I want to do an update very soon now, and I would love to have any locations I've missed.

Do you have a source for that? There as of yet been no consensus on a name for the fourth continent. I was not aware of "Boomerangia", but if it is in common use, I will add it as an option.

Thank you DaQbet. I've enjoyed making them. I've never been a RL cartographer, so that's high praise indeed. I've only managed maps of imaginary worlds :)

I want to do maps of the remaining continents eventually. My next revision of the Sansara & Heterocera map will include the road networks that Infrared Wind mapped out (with his kind permission).

When I get ready to attempt maps of the new contients, I will put out an open call for places of interest. I'm afraid most of my first-hand in-world geographic knowledge is related to Sansara and Heterocera Atoll.

new continent north of corsica?
09-14-2008 02:30
I was trying to find vehicle rezzing places around mainland, and there's an unmentioned continent north of corsica... search for sim name "marate" on the map to see it.
Estate is "mainland" owned by gov. linden... individual parcels claimed around this summer... Anyone got a name to tack on that continent?

I love that map. I wish there was a way to get a copy of it to add to the wall where I hang my favorite map from Carl.

If there's no copyright issue, you could just download the picture from Mari's post and upload it into SL. I did, putting it on an alpha background with a touch of drop shadow and next time I'm in-world it'll go up in my house.

I was in the old "Avatar Central" in Aqua yesterday, and I spotted another legacy map:

See it bigger at http://www.sluniverse.com/snapzilla_snapshots/Marianne_McCann_My_how_this_world_has_grown_308504.jpg

Or in person in the Aqua region

Not much to add to the discussion, but might be of interest. I need to check the points of interest on this map and see if any of them still exist to this day -- and if they would be valid for Carl's map.

I am a total map dummy. I have looked and looked over the maps provided and still can't find where I live.

Could some kind soul please tell me what continent the sim Warbluster is on please?

Thanks so much in advance :)
