well, considering that anyone that owns an oss has been shafted, yes quite a few people do have a financial interest in this. that isnt necessarily a bad thing. in reality pretty much everyone but the landless and $less has a financial interest in this last move by ll. From: Tegg Bode And it has also brought a lot of unverified disposable alts into the woodwoork too I suspect, posting some big untruths for the sake of financial interests.

Yes, I think more are effected than many realise. I have an OS for my home which I totally love and was about to add a second to it as myself and my partner have boats and want more water. Luckily I had not put in the order yet as not only the OS I have now is about to cost me a huge percentage more, I have found sales have plumeted since the announcement. I gather there are more OS sims than normal private islands and a heck of a lot more than mainland sims. That is a LOT of people involved, majority financially and many losing their dream homes. Before I would have had to have my island moved to make room for an addition, now I see on the map there are huge gaps all around me, a lot of sims already been abandoned.

I realise it has been an extremely poor business descision by LL and will hurt a lot of people, but no reason in my mind to justify any untrue rumor mongering.

From: Denise Bonetto That is a LOT of people involved, majority financially and many losing their dream homes. This is exactly why so many people are up in arms against the announcement. The loss in goodwill through destroying the dreams of so many people is bound to have an impact. It seems that LL have miscalculated the emotional side of the OS issue. This may not be immediately expressible in $, but there is bound to be some consequence. For example, typically SL evangelists inside corporations will also be above average engaged residents, with a high probability of being impacted by the OS change. Thus, how many $ in corporate investment is this decision costing? I have no idea, but there will be some. Now the OS change is not The End of SL As We Know It, but as Desmond recently stated in another thread, "... we shall understand the full impact of these interesting times by March or so."

From: Set Serpentine From what I understand from insiders it was a decision made by one Linden in the position to make a blanket decision and M. supported the decision. But at the same time, certain residents who are romantically involved with Lindens , and own Island Sim(s), sold their sim(s) and moved to the mainland about a month ago so we know that certain people had a heads up. M. may approve the decision because he is a corporate suit tool, but Jack made the decision. So it is Jack who should be burning at the stake and not getting pats on the back. You know you could have just posted your opinion in the thread you copied and pasted the posts from. They are located in the relevant forum on the subject, but of course you knew that already.

you assume they arent true. why do you find it such a stretch to believe that somebody moved to the mainland due to a heads up by ll? it certainly wouldnt be the first time the 'fic' have been given a heads up. From: Tegg Bode I realise it has been an extremely poor business descision by LL and will hurt a lot of people, but no reason in my mind to justify any untrue rumor mongering.

You're absolutely right that the policy changes on OSS's affects everyone...not just people who own or rent on an openspace. I'm on the side of the OSS folks, just from the standpoint of fairness and justice. They bought in good faith, they used the capabilities they were given...then they got royally shafted for doing so. But my wallet is on the side of LL. If they don't change this policy, there are a lot of people going to be looking for a new place to live. I'm going to offer 1/4 sim of mainland for rent at a price competitive with the old OS tier structure. Less land, yeah, but the same prims as an OS. So you see, everyone IS affected.

I live in a democracy too. With speech codes, the inability to defend yourself, taxation bordering on theft, and numerous other government intrusions into your everyday life.

I don't have an OpenSpace sim, I'm not personally involved. As I see it, LL and OpenSpace owners can share the blame for what's happened. -LL for firstly not anticipating that residents wouldn't adhere to the spirit of what Open Space was intended for and then being a bit heavy-handed in dealing with the unforeseen outcome. -OpenSpace owners (or some of them) for developing their regions much more heavily than the spirit in which the regions were intended. But it looks like it might be solved now - let's hope so for all those involved.

From: Bee Mizser Brenda, Socialism doesn't equal communism. Look at the UK or the rest of europe to see how it can work! Oh yes...socialism works SO well in those countries. That's why the population and productivity in those countries are declining, I guess. Don't worry though...we've just joined your club.
