Pep (It's a close race with the heat death of the Universe though.) HAHA ! I didn't expect you to be that "open" - in the morning. Actually you like to talk about your problems late in the night. HAHA P(ee)p ( I know you are from the UNIversity - somewhat) PS: That's what I like

May I borrow your quote? From: Ava Velde Now you blow all tears away with your "genuine expression of sentiment" ? Was that ironic?

From: Bree Giffen You can't copybot scripts. At least that's how it was when I last heard about it.
But you should know that copybotting will get you banned if caught. Yes you can copy scripts too !

Would it be rude if I just stood on the sidelines of this thread laughing?
Between this and the dramatic "leaving" thread I'm not sure which has provided more comedy gold today.

Pep (Isn't there a German-speaking subforum where people might understand what I presume are your attempts at humour?) Your humour should be British --> black? It's more like a bottle of "Scotch" - the only who likes it - is you P(ee)p (listen to your ex-wife - drink more water)

From: Nicks Mint if someone buy's a nice idk lets say Car. It was 2,000L, do you think if they copybot it and make it full perm. But make it so the creater still says orgional. And if they dont sell or give away. Do you think this should be still agents rules? and im talking keeping scripts unviewable still. But able to replace them. Sorry Nicks - the use of any "copybot" system in SL can get you banned - it does not matter why or for what purpose you are using it.

Ava, dear, you've spoken up again while the grown-ups do their thing. *looks stern*
I suggest you resume fifth grade and continue your education beyond it before you come back.

Ok ok, let me see, you wanna use copybot to make a copy of a non modifiable object, making it a modifiable object. Am I right?? Am I right?? Am I right?? Am I right?? Am I right??

My personal set of ethics (all that truly matter to me)... I wouldn't use copybot to give away or profit from someone else's creation, but I would consider using it to turn a nomod item into a mod item for my own personal use. I realize this is still a bannable defense, but 1) it's rather unlikely anyone would find out if I kept it to myself and 2) I'd have zero moral conflict over it.
So, my personal moral compass would say "have at it". Maybe you want to change the color of the car, or add something too it. I think you should be able to, whether or not it's allowed.

From: Ralektra Breda no, it's not ok. It isn't just the physical 'car' but the car's design, textures, etc. A creation on SL is like a work of art really. It is not ok to copybot something for your personal use. IMHO. It's against the ToS but it's either not against copyright law or else just about any use of the product or derived works outside SL itself (including taking a photograph of it and putting that photo on Snapzilla) *is* against copyright law. It's not exactly clear. Larry Lessig would probably argue that it should be fair use. In the US, it probably is, and there is no "moral right" against a purchaser modifying a work of art. In Europe, it may or may not be illegal, depending on whether it's a limited edition or not. Further reading: "Glasshouse", Charlie Stross "Permanence", Karl Schroeder "Rainbow's End", Vernor Vinge "Free Culture", Lawrence Lessig

This is pretty close to how I feel. I've never done it but I can think of examples where I would feel quite justified in doing so. For instance, shrinking a nomod skirt. I have to be careful when I buy clothes, I almost always have to resize them. I understand they are trying to protect their product, but really they are just making it inconvenient for customers and doing nothing to stop people stealing and reselling their work.

i dont believe there is a hard moral line in regards to copybot, or texture (skin) ripping. if i were inclined i could argue various scenarios where legitimate use of such tools is hard to refute without sounding overly uptight. of course it goes without saying that these items are never shared with anyone.
