I can't believe I read the whole thing. I started reading this in 1987 or thereabouts. Some random thoughts of mine about thread topics. I take avs at face value - so I am comfortable with Ghosty, for instance, as a llama or as a human or some combination in between. It does not effect the way I interact. Because I don't really engage in a lot of adult language, other than fairly PG innuendo, I think the same would hold true for kid avatars. I have watched Immy go from a pug nosed little kid to something much closer to gown up - perhaps a teen. Doesn't this happen in real life too? And seemingly just as fast. Kids change into adults anyway, and humans are able to deal with it. I think I'm with Jig in a lot of ways about kids, but only in real life. Real life kids creep me out a little. I think I'm expected to behave like Fred Rogers around them - an idea that frankly terrifies me. However I have a 4 year old great niece who seeks me out BECAUSE I don't ooh and aah and talk down to her. She has turned me around about RL kids somewhat (and also has me wrapped around her little finger). But in SL I know the kids are really adults so I'm much more relaxed around in them. I think some of the most fun I've had in SL is being around kid avatars. It's just goofy innocent fun. Though I have no real desire to be a kid avatar myself*, there is something very freeing about allowing yourself just to be silly and have no sexual tensions of any kind. And that I think that really is healthy. Sorry for the rambling unfocused post, but my brains are partly mush after this must-read thread. (*The beagle avatar looks puppy-like, but is really quite full grown when you compare its size to a normal human avatar.)

From: Briana Dawson Would be better if she added "nude" to it. Though actually, i never do ANYTHING in the kitchen nude. Once you have had boiling water or grease splatter and hit your boobs ( or lower for those clean shaven ladies out there), you change your mind real quick about where in the house you can be nude. Well.... There's that certain ick factor with preparing food while naked...

Sure, if you have some limp muscle swinging around between your legs, flopping here and there, dipping itself in the mash potato's, gravy and taking a bite of your roast chicken while you place it on the tabel... That certainly is ICK!! From: Katheryne Helendale Well.... There's that certain ick factor with preparing food while naked...

From: LittleMe Jewell RL you are suppose to be an adult, so a part of my mind knows that you are not really a kid, therefore I can easily treat you as however you appear to be at the time. This. For example, the first time I met Weston as a guy instead of a beagle, my entire mental reaction was: "Huh!". I didn't go on to wonder why ... I figured he just did it because he felt like it. In your case, the "Dakota" I first met has this adult voice on the forums, as Weston has this human male voice on the forums. So, no surprise if you show up as a guy sometime. Then, of course, there's your signature. *tilts head* Now I'm curious to see your grown-up avatar! Damn kids!

I've not posted the last couple of days but watched this thread (among others) with amusement. It's simple for me. I don't want to interact with anyone whose motivations I don't understand sufficiently that I can have a sensible dialogue. Kids, as far as I am concerned, want to be acknowledged as mature for some purposes but hide behind their immaturity for others. The OP's professed preferred decriptor of "prodigy" epitomises that "want their cake and eat it" attitude. I also refuse to interact significantly with other non-human avatars with whom I have no empathic connection. They may all be humans behind the avatar, but I have no desire to interact with someone who wants to rp vampirism or bestiality (for example) in the same way that I don't strike up rl conversations in pubs with people who are pigeon racing fanatics or feminists. I have better things to do, and presumably they feel the same way. As long as neither party insists on proselytising to the other we can happily remain oblivious of each other and get on with making contact with those with whom we have more of a chance of having something in common, rather than annoying or (worse) boring each other to death. Pep (would have no problem with the OP at the Hangout; muting means I can't hear him, and he remains a grey mass. )

Yes - I think I remember Weston at one point being blondish, and wearing eyeglasses. I thought it interesting because he was the only other person besides Mari I'd seen wearing any. But anyway - so I guess what matters then is first impressions? If people had first gotten to know me (either on the forum or whatever, etc) as "adult", then their later seeing me in a kid avatar, even for a long time, wouldn't matter. So it's not the "child avatar" in and of itself, but rather whatever the first impression was, that sticks to you - and if that happens to have been a child avatar, that's what people will think of you as. That's an interesting theory as well. From: Nika Talaj Then, of course, there's your signature.

Now I'm curious to see your grown-up avatar! Damn kids! Ya know, I actually don't have one! My noob shape was the one I re-did to turn myself into a kid, so it doesn't exist anymore. It would be fun to make one though. I know Mari made one as an April Fools joke once, it was hilarious.

From: Dakota Tebaldi Wouldn't know - made the trip in 10 and a half hours (give or take) overnight by boat. I can't fly - would've liked to have learned, though. You gotta flap harder, that all. Ask Ciera to show you!

I would have no issue whatsoever in how you choose to dress. After all,you did state that it is a nudist place after dark. So,if I were nude as well, there would be no reason to feel uncomfortable. I myself have gone to nudist places, where some of the people were clothed. My av is my av is my av is my av,and not my RL self.

From: Jig Chippewa I have a family member who is also a gay male but I bet he still masturbated when he was 13 or 14. But what does masturbation have to do with sex or being gay? Seriously, at that age, I didn't know. Yeah, I masturbated, but I don't remember having any fantasies. It was purely a physically pleasurable sensation. There was no thought of any other people, and no idea that there was any connection to this secret adult thing called "sex". Nothing that could be described as lascivious thoughts towards anyone else.

From: Argent Stonecutter At least one sheep is black on at least one side, at the time of observation. I started rereading that book over vacation this past week. I think it's the first time I've reread it since my brother gave it to me, when I was around 13-14. Taking into account my earlier posts in this thread about the state of my sexual awareness at that age, it's now clear why I thought it was a tedious, boring book back then and couldn't understand the hoopla - other than the contribution of an important four letter word to the English language. This time around, I understand it, but I'm faced with the hurdle of appreciating it in the context of the time in which it was written, including overlooking the homophobia. I suppose I should find the author's extended version to be fair.

From: Smith Peel She would not have even demonstrated this successfully; unless the person asks if she is under 18 RL and she lies. She wouldn't even have demonstrated that. As someone else pointed out, it could just be a netcop hunting pervs. Or it could be someone just like her, but with a slightly better grasp of logic - and thus on the prowl looking for kid avs who will consent to sexual ageplay. But even if it were someone actually looking for virtual sexual ageplay for its own sake, that still doesn't prove pedophilia in a RL sense. I've done a variety of BDSM things in SL, only a tiny fraction of which has any connection to my real feelings and fantasies; the rest is roleplay for the sake of roleplay. Hmm, it just occurred to me that this shows SL is the great equalizer - men get to fake it as well.

From: Jig Chippewa "akward" no I'll definitely NOT take back "awkward" now. "Smelly" - now seriously, Dakota, Men smell. I am NOT lying. Try sleeping with a bloke. I did it a few times and now I sleep alone and any man who has sex with me goes to the guest house or back to his hotel room. I sleep with one regularly. And every time he's away for some reason, I remember how comforting it is to have him sleeping next to me. We did, however, get a king size bed. He kicks in his sleep, and I have a bad knee.

From: Scylla Rhiadra Good question. No. (Sorry, I'm preoccupied with feeling regretful: I outright called someone stupid in a forum post! ack! ) Don't feel bad Scylla, if anyone ever fit the definition of "stupid" its her. /me shakes his head sadly. This sort of ignorance is becoming much to common place I fear. Handy.

Handy.
The only part that confuses me is how these people - the ones who hate kid avs - claim they are a repressed minority and how they get "attacked" for speaking their minds. Like SL is being drowned in a flood of kid avatars that keep LL under their thumb. Here's a hint - don't make your first post a vicious and vitriolic rant, and people will feel less inclined to "attack" you for it.

From: Kylie Jaxxon From: Smith Peel Don't forget the part where they found it lying in the grass in the median and sewed it back on so he could begin his brilliant career in frankenporn. Ewwwwwwwwwwwwww, does that work?? I'd be kinda worried about the stitching coming undone in the middle of ... the performance!

Here's a hint - don't make your first post a vicious and vitriolic rant, and people will feel less inclined to "attack" you for it. There is always someone that wish to control what you're allowed to do, especially when it doesn't concern them, even more when it's none of their business.
