HOW TO: JOIN/SUBDIVIDE LAND
------------------------------------------------------------
Key words: join subdivides land parcels land tiers credits parcels

Join Land

To be able to join two parcels they must be touching and owned by the same owner or group. If they are not, they cannot be joined.

1. Right-click the land and select Edit from the pie menu.

2. Left-click the land. A yellow box will appear on the land. Drag the yellow box across the two parcels you want to join. You don't have to select all of both parcels for this to work.

3. Click the Join button.

Subdivide Land

1. Right-click the land and select Edit from the pie menu.

2. Left-click the land. A yellow box will appear on the land. Drag the yellow box to the size of the land you want to break off. If you need to break off an irregular shaped piece, you may have to break off the desired land in seperate chunks and rejoin them when you are done.

3. Click the Subdivide button.

How To: Make A Movie In Second Life
09-20-2006 06:40
HOW TO: MAKE A MOVIE IN SECOND LIFE
--------------------------------------------------
Key words: captures movies mpegs mpgs avis divxs wmvs machinima mpeg4s mpg4s

Before you begin you will need the following:

* Windows Media 8.0 and 9.0 codecs (if you don't already have them). You can find these at: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/wi...cdownload.aspx.

* Video editing software

1. Change your screen resolution to as small as possible.
- Right-click on your Windows desktop.
- Choose Properties, then Settings.
- Choose 800 by 600 pixels.
- Click Apply, then OK.

2. Log into Second Life

3. Turn on the Debug menu.
- Press Ctrl-Alt-D. Debug should appear to the right of Help in the main menu.

4. Set your movie resolution.
- From the menu, select Debug/Set 320x240 Windowed.
- IMPORTANT: your Second Life window will be reduced significantly.
During filming, you must leave the SL window at this size on your screen.

5. Hide the User Interface.
- Click Ctrl-Alt-1 to hide the UI so that it won't appear in your movie.

6. Start your movie.
- Click Ctrl-Shift-A to start the movie (this command also stops filming).

7. Pick a place to save your movie.
- IMPORTANT: select or create a folder NOT on your desktop,
for example, any folder on your C drive will work.
- Once you have your folder selected, click Open.
- Click Save.

8. Choose video compression.
- Select Full Frames/Uncompressed.
- IMPORTANT: this will generate a large uncompressed video file - about 1 GB per minute,
which you will need to compress during or after editing.
OR
- Select Microsoft MPEG-4 Video Codec.
- Click OK. Filming beings.

9. Capture your raw footage.
- To stop filming, Click Ctrl-Shift-A.

10. Edit your movie using your choice of video editing application.

How To: Sell Items From A Box
09-20-2006 06:40
HOW TO: SELL ITEMS FROM A BOX
--------------------------------------------------
Key words: contents clothings clothes sales selling objects money textures snapshots images prices pricing permissions

1. Set the permissions for the item in the Edit/Build box that you want the next owner to have. Be sure permissions are set for all contents: textures, scripts, notecards, and objects. Do not set the item for sale and do not set a price.

‚2. Rez a prim to use as a box. Give it a name, usually the name of your item. Add a picture or texture.

3. Drag the items for sale from your inventory into the Contents tab of the box. You may want to add a landmark to your store if you have one.

4. Check the For Sale box and set a price.

ƒ5. Check the Contents button so that your customers will receive a folder containing your items when they buy from the box.

Note: You could also check Copy which will give them a copy of the box as well as the contents, but Contents is the better option. Only check Original if you want to sell the original item ONCE.

6. Take the box into your inventory.

7. Rez copies of the box at your sales location. Double-check that the For Sale button is still checked and that the price is set.

FYI: You can see when you make sales by looking at your account history. Go to World on the Menu. Select Account History, Sales/Gifts. You can view your sales for the past 30 days.

Technical Issue: Blue Triangles Shedding From Avs

TECHNICAL ISSUE: BLUE TRIANGLES SHEDDING FROM AVS
-------------------------------------------------------------
Key words: blue triangles updates debugs shortcuts

Problem: Avatars are shedding blue triangles. Some other objects do the same thing with different colors.

Solution: The Show Updates option on the Debug menu displays visible indicators (colored triangles) when an object or avatar changes, by moving, changing textures, playing an animation, etc.

1. Turn Show Updates off by pressing Ctrl-Alt-Shift-U.

2. If that doesn't work, press Ctrl-Alt-Shift-D to toggle the Debug menu on. Click Show Updates.

Q> What are the basic social rules here?

Second Life is an online community of adults (you must be 18 or older to participate). Due to this standard, it is expected that people will behave maturely and respectfully to their fellow residents.

I suggest that this part be amended.

Translations

These should all be translated to many other languages, especially german, italian, and portugese. Especially the first one, I've seen many newbies give up because they can't find help in their language.

Excellent. Thanks for the tips. Even though I'm pretty computer-adept and fell right into Second Life like a, well, second home, I've found lots of little things that I have questions about that aren't so obvious. Some of these notecards have answered my questions. Can't wait to get in world soon and try them out (especially the performance tips - my computer has really been dragging lately).

* If you have upgraded your basic account to a premium account and don't have any land yet, you qualify for the Land for the Landness. This program is run via the Lindens and provides you with a 512m plot of land for L$512. To acquire a plot of land, you'll need to do the following:

1. Click the Find tab at the bottom of the screen.
2. Click the Land Sales tab.
3. First Land plots will be listed at the top of the listings. Picture and location are shown in the Find box.
4. Once you have selected a plot that interests you, click on the Teleport button to be TPed to the plot.
5. If you want to buy the parcel, right-click on the land and the About Land menubox will appear.
6. Click the General tab. Click the Buy Land button at the bottom to purchase the land. If you meet the criteria, you will be charged $L 512 for your parcel.
<snip>

Hi All,

Could you edit this so that above portion is stricken? "First Land" is like "Live Help" it's now only a memory (or for us newer folks that never saw either service, a legend or tale of better days)

There's a section in the wiki that has a version of these notecards.

It would be a good thing, in the event anyone is in the mood to pass some time by doing a good thing, to update that section of the wiki.

Then those of us looking for information for ourselves or to give to others can highlight the text in the wiki, press control C to copy it, fire up Second Life, go to inventory, create a notecard, and paste the text in, whenever we want to.

I know there's out of date info in this section of the wiki, and I know that there are readers of this forum that are able to do a good job of updating it from knowledge they already have.

This part of the wiki is at http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Category:Text_from_In-world_Notecards

I've removed the [FIRST LAND] section of the original notecard, since that program hasn't been around for a while.

I've also made a printable PDF (and smaller, email friendly version) for the new interface design (code name: DAZZLE). I've used this for new users as a cheat sheet until they're familiar with the Second Life interface. Hopefully, this helps! You can view it and download the PDFs here:

Don't know if already posted and if it's good thread for that.
Well I just sold 2 parcells in Mainland and now I have only 16096 SQM. Before I paid fee for 1/2 sim and now normally will be for 1/4. How that happen ? Do I need to do something on my account to decrease fee or that will be automaticly ?
In advance thanks for answer.
