Escorting, dancing or stripping jobs can be found by visiting the sort of places that would employ them. Many strip clubs will have 'help wanted' ads and the qualifications you'll need to meet. You'll probably need a good shape, hair and skin for your avatar, selection of clothes, and the ability to emote, chat and flirt with customers. Most clubs won't employ recently arrived residents, unless you can prove an established alt.

I'll leave it for others to point out the moral & economic shortfalls of such work in SL.

you go shopping, a lot, you will need the trendiest of trendy, ask other gals really, I am not sure of the hot spots for gals. I Know Gurl 6 is trendy, Gritty Kitty, Naughty Hair, Cake Clothing, FNKY as well. Those are the trendy shops I know of. Better break open that credit card.

Escort companies really want super Barbie and trendy types, so you sort of have to be pretty perfect. Not all are like this, some are niche, but realistically, when you can be so thin that you can't even support your weight, thats about right. And look into boob implants, I don't know much, but I know they exist.

And expect to pay from 4000-8000 for a skin, and about 1000 for hair, clothes, they are all over the place. Maybe search for 'Freebee cave" it's my free zone, and I do have quite a bit there. There are some basic female skins, and quite a bit of gals undies. At least to get you started.

The avs for this kind of work are more or less the same as any other. They're likely to have exaggerated proportions - slim legs, narrow waists, big boobs - but hey, that describes a lot of female avs. Search for places that sell skins. You might buy a shape too, or maybe make your own.

I hope this doesn't offend, but if you have to ask, you're probably not ready to do the job. There's a reason most places don't want inexperienced residents. I'd recommend you hang out in SL a bit first and learn the ropes... how to dance, chat, emote, use poseballs etc.

I believe if you scroll down in the Forum and check out the Classifieds - Employment, you'll find some places that are hiring for that kind of work, and every now and then one that offers assistance to new residents wanting to break into the field.

But yeah, what Kelli said - get to know SL a little first.

And check the event listings in-world. I understand one of our forum regulars teaches a class on SL sex and relationships on Friday nights at 6:00 SL time at GQ start. I haven't been, but I have heard it's very well done. NCI (and maybe other places?) offer Avatar Makeover classes that can help with your av. Both of those are free; there are other classes offered that may or may not have a cover.

Oh, and to answer your first question - you can make lindens dollars, sure, but I'm not sure you can make much of a real-world income in those fields. A thousand linden dollars sounds like a lot, but it's worth less than $4 US - less than an hour's work at a minimum wage job in RL.

And even more important, you will have to invest to harvest ;)

So you will have to spend several thousands of lindens in order to get yourself stripper/escort ready, although I would think that money does earn itself back. What I wonder though is how the market for escorts/strippers is at the moment. Since voice I would think that escorts that do voice are rather popular, as well as escorts catering niche interest. But your average barbie escort with no voice will have I hard time probably. But maybe people in the business can tell you more about that one, I am just thinking out loud...

I'm not so sure that she need to invest a lot of money on her appearance. When it's a "shocking" article about sex in SL, it's always rather ugly avatars in the pictures that illustrate it. I think most of the skins, hair, clothes and shoes found in freebie places would be good enough.

Frankly, I don't think a hooker made by a fashonista would do better than a hooker made of freebies.

Maybe that could be a way to make money - stay "newbie" and sell your SL virginity again and again?

Holy crap...where do you shop? I've never paid 4000-8000 for a skin, and I'm a model!

it depends..are you a runway model or an art and add style model??

i'll admit ,1 skin in the box for 4,000 to 8,000 is a bit much..
for a set it sounds about right..although some sets go even higher..
like around the 20k mark or so.

Dancers:
You basically have to find a good skin / shape ... some clubs require you to buy XCite parts so the customers can play with you while dancing / stripping ... For guys you have to have a quality p*nis no freebies ... Premium hair ... Good emoting skills with the ability to work the crowd ... Vast wardrobe so you can dress out for events in which the club is having ...

Escorts:
Same as the above ... Must be good at cyber sex ... If you are a voice escort then you must be able to think quick as you never know what kind of a twist the customer is going to throw at you ... Must be available when your customer wants you and make them happy

Yes there is money to be made in these types of fields but as one has said not enough for a real life living. There is enough in it to support your second life but not your real life. Hope this helps you out a bit.

for dancers you need to look your best..
a good shape is a plus and a good skin is a plus..

it's not so much emoting huge paragraphs that eat up the general chat as it is keeping it short smart and sweet..
girls that emote huge paragraphs end up irritating customers more than turning them on..because if you have 5 girls on stage knocking each others chat lines off it gets to be a lot to read and most times they get bypassed..

talking to your customer building a small little you and them relation works so much better than talking around them.
Don't beg for money by mentioning tips all the time or ..omg just 100 more and my top comes off..

use words with style and class when explaining your bits or what is happening to them to a customer..

don't copy and paste pre written lines from a note card..people feel ripped off when they see you saying the same exact thing over and over..give them their moneys worth by at least typing something just for them..

you don't need Xcite or any type of sex aid on stage since most clubs do not allow them on their stages because of spam..

get a hud with some nice dances and break away from the dance poles when you can..

be as original as you can because there are a lot of beautiful girls in this field and always someone that will look better than you at some point..

keep grounded and keep the ego in the pocket ..worry about your tip jar and not the girls tip jar next to you and how much she is making..

stay out of the club gossip

what else can i add to this that will help..lol

oh yes..always remember where you are sitting when you feel yourself drifting into another world..you sit in RL and are playing in sl..this you will understand down the road lol

i'm sure there is a lot i am forgetting..it's been a few months since i've danced or been in the club industry..hope this helps..

If you have a good voice, you can earn money as a DJ. You will have to compete with the thousands if not hundreds of thousands of other DJ's out there. The same goes with escorts, but at least as a DJ you don't have to compete with the hundreds of thousands who are giving it away for free.

I used to work topless bars in RL so if you want to be a stripper ...
One good skin and shape will work.
Hair you can get for free if you are new.
Boots, leathers and various other outfits will cost you plenty and probably be the bigest expense.
And get some excite parts. If the customers tip, they can play with one of the parts. If they tip very well, you can let them finish the job.

Be vocal, be happy, greet and talk to everyone you can. Remember who comes in and make a point to call them out the next time they come. The regulars will be the majority of your paying customers so treat them right. Make notes (and you can do this in their profile) to help you remember details. Above all, have fun doing your job or it will not matter how good you look.

On being an excort I haven't got a clue.

[edit] After reading Ceka's post, ... don't get excite parts until you know whether or not the club you work wants you to have them or not. If it's an expense you can do without so much the better.

Big hint on being an escort. Check the prospective John's shoes.

Being good and talkative is what it's about.. Sure you MUST look good.. Everyone can in SL.. But how well can you do it? I have a friend that has made 50K-L a month just dancing. I know she followed what Ceka said since at one point she worked for her and she worked for me her first job as a dancer and quickly took the lead.

Lucianna,

I know several successful escorts, and can put you in touch with them. I can also sit down with you and discuss some of the basics. Some of the posters here can tell you...I teach a basic course on Sex and Relationships in SL, which touches on a lot of the things you'll need to know to be a dancer or an escort. That's on Fridays, at 6 pm SL time. If that time isn't a good one for you, I can send you a copy of the class notes.

All the stuff about shape and skin and hair and clothes and dances and XCite appliances is fine...but all of that is merely "dressing the part".

The real qualification for either job is: Do you like sex, and talking about sex? In SL, we mostly do it in text, but there are also an increasing number of dancers and escorts who use voice. Some (not all) clients insist on it, because they are afraid of cybering with a girl who might not be a "real" girl behind her computer monitor.

I've even seen escorts who advertise webcam services. I don't recommend this at all. For one thing, why get SL-level pay for this when you could be making much more with a webcam outside of SL? For another, it's risky. What would your parents, or your spouse, or boyfriend or employer say, if someone sent them a video clip of you "working"?

Send me an IM in world, and we can talk further. Or enable Private Messages in your forum user profile, and we can talk offline here.
