How often do you reveal your alts to people?

I have never had a "secret alt." There has always been at least one friend who knew the avatar was an alt of mine. I have a personal "prime directive" regarding alts: I will not mingle with friends as an alt without revealing who I am. I will also not use alts to live "another life." (For example, I'd never use an alt to partner with someone other than my main SL partner. Actually that's sort of a lie, as one of my alts is partnered with my partner's alt. )

I use(d) them for specific RP scenes, or to play dress-up when I was more restrictive with what I'd wear as Wildefire could wear, and to minimize IMs and other interruptions if I was doing customer service work or building. I conceal enough of myself in real life- I don't need to do it here.

So is that incest or masturbation?

I think of more like making my own porn. So I guess that makes it masturbation.

I once knew someone who went to Kenya for several weeks. While out in the bush with no internet connection, he got so mind-numbingly bored that he resorted to drawing his own porn with a pencil and notepad.

My closest friends know my alts. They know they are for building/business reasons and if I am on one of them it is because I am working. I still have added those friends to the friends list of the alts so if there is something important they can track me down.

They all know not to send any "Hey, wanna go dancing" or "When you going back on Smoke?" messages to me when I am on my alts because I am working. Only one time did I have a problem with someone bugging me on alts till the point of needing to block them on that name.

I've only revealed my alt to 4 or 5 close friends. Not that I have anything to hide (she has no personal life, just helps out with animations), it's just that nobody else would care.

I wouldn't have outed her at all, but I happen to think she's pretty darned hot and I'm proud of her wardrobe

More or less how I treat my alts, after I once chatted with people I already knew, almost by mistake. I ended up getting to know them almost as well with both accounts. The time to reveal the 'deception' without the risk of hurt feelings passed, but luckily when I came clean they were very understanding.

I still have a secret alt who has almost the same name as my RL name, and is shaped to look as similar as possible too. The fact we are the same person is only shared with those who know me in RL too. She never goes to the Hangout... she's just my getaway for quiet exploring. Friends know she exists, but they'll probably never meet her or know her name.

I do not tell folks because mainly I keep to myself when I am on him, and he is used mainly for custom male skin work ...

Only now I'm the main.... I was created to give my main some peace and quiet, when friends became a little too clingy. I like my name much better, and now am not so shy about telling ppl to give me some space if I need it. Most of my main's friends know both of us now, and she only logs on to give me her stuff, her stipend, and to function as the second person in our land group.

I don't apologize tho, for creating an alt to allow myself some quiet time to explore, etc. in SL. I wouldn't do anything with an alt, I wouldn't do with the main, in a relationship, I mean. But really, what with the friends online feature, and IM's it's hard to maintain a sense of privacy in SL. For an essentially private person like me, that gets a little stifling sometimes. So who knows... maybe another Alt is in the future.

Until recently, I was pretty close-mouthed about the fact that I *had* alts.

My husband knows mine, and I know his. I revealed an alt to a friend once, as I wanted some input on what I'd created. I later wished I hadn't, not because anything bad happened but because now I can never have that perfect anonymity back.

I don't think my other personae are close enough to anyone for feelings of deception to be an issue. I wouldn't be distraught if our identities were linked, but I prefer to keep us distinct. And as others have mentioned, I like being able to log on and roam around all by my lonesome when the mood strikes.

I created an alt recently, so far she only has freebies and limited time online but she is a total financial wiz with my accounting.

*sighs* I should treat her better and take her out for some dancing a couple of times a month before she gets upset and leaves or makes a bid to take over being main.

How many alts do that I wonder?. Do the previous mains ever get to squeal on them?

Too much. Xio has too many friends who know each other, & I get so many IMs when I log in ya would think I'm ...what...like Sarah Nerd or some crap. My IMs get capped faster than freshmen in street gangs.

I have *a* alt. Trill.. she's my shop builder/party neko, since Raudf is usually dealing with the customer service part, it's nice to just log in without a complaint! Plus, when I'm working on the shop/workshop/house areas, I really don't need all the group IMs either. Yes, she only belongs to one group and that's the group that owns the land

I've often pondered another alt, but.. I realized that means THREE inventories I'd have to organized. It's not worth it!

I'm with you, Wildefire. My RL/SL partner knows all my alts and a few close friends do too. Most state they are owned by Angel Coral. Now they weren't always like that but live and learn I suppose. I have one or two that keep their anonymity for solitary exploration. I won't speak or be around friends, however, while playing an anonymous alt.

Ummm forgot the bit about whether my alt is public - answer is yes, I tell everyone who knows my main and is meeting the alt that she is me too!

I am an alt that that was created for business, which now seems to have become the main.
My close friends all know this and now my main is the one who comes out when I need a little peace and quiet. =p

Missfit was created as a new main character as I wanted a name change. my old main character is now an alt (Confusing huh). My alt only logs in to send her stipend to my main account & is pending cancellation once my premium membership expires this year. I'll be glad to see the back of her!

I have a couple of Alts. i'm open about who they are, but I try not to bring them into the forums to post...that would be too complicated. Though one of my alts has posted once, when I was sorting her account and forgot to relog as me.
One alt has a smaller inventory which is totally organised and i think she looks better than me too lol. Even though all but 1 item are freebies.
My other is still a baby alt really...not much inventory, looks like the city chic female but with jeans and a T-shirt.

I could do with spending more time ontheir acounts. i like being them, and my closest friends are on their friends list.
I seem to go through phases of wanting to be my alts, and wanting to be me.

This happens to me constantly. Except for one occasion on another forum it has always been accidental.

I'll stay 'in character' here, while I describe my situation. I'm sponsored in SL by my RL, who I call the Lagwoot Agency. I know they have sponsored an alt, who I met once when they were still a newbie.

This alt was originally for testing purposes and was for a while a silver ball of about 1 metre diameter. I've heard they are human form again now but I've no idea what they look like.

There is always the possibility there may be other alts, but I never meet them and I'm assured they never intrude on my SL social territory or do any badnesses. In fact they rarely, if ever, log in, having been hired mainly as extras for cartoon strips.

Definitely I'm the only Premium member, so the alts can't post on here, thank goodness!

My alt bought some property and had a house. She forgot to tell the landlord she was an alt.....I got caught spending the night and had to explain who I was. So all my friends know who my alt is. And I bought the land from her right away.

I have to keep a close eye on her, she sneaks out once in a while and gets into all kinds of trouble. And she spends my money and borrows all my clothes. She doesn't even LIKE my clothes. She wears all those little bitty outfits. So when my friends see my alt on they get real quiet - they don't associate with her kind. She is the killer/hunter.

I'm the Alt that took over. My Main is relegated to giving me money, being the extra person needed for a group, and flirting with my bf's Alts. I have a few others, created for misc purposes and they have only even left the castle a few times. My bf knows all of my accounts and 1 or 2 other people do also, but since they don't socialize with anyone, they don't really matter.

dammit. now i said i need to spend time with my alts, i have all of us inworld dancing....its confusing me lol

Following this thread I actually met up with my alt today. It is now a headless, armless egg-shaped robot and has been given to me to act as my deputy. I can send the robot to represent me when I'm busy elsewhere or too tired to go out.
I took the robot down to Gouguen Sandbox this afternoon and we got shot at by a gunman in full body armour. The robot is supposed to be bulletproof, unlike me, but the bullets only stung mildly as they were made from pork sausages. That didn't stop the robot from losing its nerve and running off shouting: "I'm scared." Who programmed that thing?
