How many of you "post strategically"?

Okay, let me tell you what I mean.

It means you want YOUR post to be at the top of a page when a page "is turned" on the thread site. So, for those of you who don't get it, you dont wanna have your post at the bottom of the scroll, you want YOUR post to be at the top of the next page. Get it?

Okay, or you want YOUR name on the page that opens Resident Answers on the computer screen. So people scroll down all those boring forum sites that no one ever goes to, like "Building and Scripts" (yawn) or "Ask Blowfish" or some such rubbish and they see "Posting Strategically" and everyone goes "ooo a Jig thread! Lessee what insights she has into posting in Rez. Ans." and then everybody settles down and reads.

Oooorrrrr, you say, okay I have to anticipate ol'Pep and prepare my answer before he even posts so I can grab him by the balls and give his intellect a little squeeze.

That's Posting Strategically. Do you do it? Do you have any hints for teh rest of us?

Congratulations. In fifteen years on the net, you are now officially the first forum person to have made it to my ignore list.

Hey, I'm being ignored after 15 years! I must be good. I love that really peeved kinda expression people place in their "I am ignoring Jig" posts. Kinda like changing channels or hurling the newspaper across the room and the wife saying, "well, WHY do you keep watching / reading her then?"

And if you have been posting for 15 years on internet, are you sure you are STILL a girl? maybe Lady Geek would be more accurate. I mean, I 'm just saying ...
I'm "27ish" after all ... you know? :)

Getting online at 12 doesn't seem unreasonable. I started hacking computers when I was 12 and that was when they were a good deal less common than they are now.

I know. I know. I was being snarky. I cant help it. I've had to contend with a "Christian Lady" today, who accosted me in the street and started praying for me and crossing herself - in real! I'm in "a mood".

I muttered "Of all the millions of Christians in the world, I had to meet you today" And she said, "There's only a handful of us, you wicked Jezebel (she used another word but same meaning). The Catholics and the rest are as pagan and damned as YOU are!"

And I'm looking after a friend's dog - a Randy Diamond or something - called Pugwash (which is a stupid name for a dog) and I have called down THREE times to the concierge to send a boy up to take the dog for a walk in th epark across from teh hotel and if he pees on the carpet it's NOT my fault. I'm supposed to be resting. I am venting, aren't I? I'm on the 15th floor and its just too far for me to go. And if you think I am lying one of YOU come and walk teh dog for me.

And you've got seventeen thousand posts for god's sake. 17000! No wonder you can hack. I can't even call myself "a slight tickle in the throat" with my measly 3000!

I could never master strategic thinking for chess (I think about one-half move ahead: "If I take his queen, he...WON'T HAVE IT! Bam! NxQ. Checkmate. Huh?"

If I can't think ahead in chess, it's a good bet I'm not thinking ahead here. I just post.

Okay, THAT's Why it's called "posting strategically" - it may be a bit too Yoda for some people to grasp but it makes sense when you stand back and take a look at it from another angle.

I just throw them out there. I really don't care where they land. Run it up the flag pole and see if anyone salutes it.

I have my preferences set to 40 posts per page. That changes the "strategy", I think. (^_^)y

You see, there you go again, destroying my faith in humanity and computers. Now what does THAT mean? You mean that I MAY NOT be at teh top of everyone's screen? I might NOT be #1?

It' just like that last time when you said you could hide groups and I never knew that before.

And by the way, I'm gonna have to take this dog out by myself. Which is REALLY aggravating.

It means that I can adjust the number per page so that it looks good to me - you could add a line to your signature to ask everyone to set their posts per page to whatever number you would like...

So do I. The first I change in every forum I lurk, is to set that number to max (or a fairly high number).

You're set to the forum default, which is 15 posts per page. I expect a lot of people just leave it at that, so potentially it's a strategy that could work to some extent.

I got my Mac 128k for my 11th birthday in 1985, and lived on Compuserve until 1986 when i ran up a $1200 dollar bill and my mom canceled my account.

Then i had fun going to Los Angeles Macintosh User Group meetings which led me to discovering a few L.A. based bulletin board systems - but all of them had 18+ only rules and no one wanted a 12 year old girl downloading their copy of Maze Wars or Red Ryder! So i was deleted *often* when the sysops wanted to do voice verification... I guess my stupid log in names like GirlRam or MsPacMac didn't help either. :p

But then i met one particular sysop, who let me stay on, and gave me a new name and 'vouched' for me as being 'legitimate' when i called to sign up at other places. HAHAHAHA, i was so ELITE.
