I have been ripped by one of the biggest names in SL. Usual story, paid the vendor 1000L$ but no delivery of goods. Normally this would be resolved by the owner but in this case, despite many IM's that have been ignored, nothing !!

Now if this was just a small one man band store you might just walk away but this is one of, if the the, biggest Texture retailers in SL. A full sim store with a number of Customer Service advisers. IM'd them too but was just told they coulden't help as the owner was the only one with any power.

So, I AR the vendor? will that help ? Not holding my breath !!

So is bigger any better? The answer is no, you can be ripped off as easily by a big name as a small one. Bad retailers like this really put me off buying anything.

Lesson learned !

Calm down and take a deep breath, please. Just IM the creator and I'm quite confident you will get justice. On edit: You may want to attach a notecard with the URL of this thread, to let the creator know that he or she is being scrutinized.

Did you read the post Steve?

I have sent many IM's, nothing !

As for calm, This is the sort of problem that really puts people off in SL. And no way to police the problems.

P**** me right off, SL should be better than this.

Sorry you're having problems there. I'd suggest dropping the owner/creator a notecard with a brief hint as to your problem in the title. Their IMs might be capped.

Good luck :)

Drop a notecard on the creators profile. Their IM;s may not have been getting through, and the staff may not have said anything either.

A notecard is usually safer.

Sorry, we posted at the same time :o

Try a notecard instead of an IM .. Lots of times IMs will be capped.

I missed part of your post, but I still think with a notecard, that you will get justice. If not, feel free to go to a third party forum and raise hell. You CANNOT name names or company names here.

Yup try a notecard--their IM dialog might be full/capped.

If you're talking about one of three texture companies in SL...I'm familiar with them all. I don't think any of them are purposefully screwing you...that's not how they do business. If you can't get in touch with the main owner, try a group of that company, and contact one of the other 'managers' or 'owners'...sometimes that works.

As has been said, send a notecard, rather than an IM. IMs get capped, or for whatever reason, they may not go through. Put your issue on the notecard, rename it to your name - product delivery problem, and drop it in the vendor's profile.

Further, you blamed SL in a later post - while it may actually be a SL issue, until you find out what is really going on, why don't you slow down and handle this in a professional manner, rather than name-calling and blaming?

It'll certainly garner you a lot more support in this forum, which is frequented by many vendors ;)

Try sending a notecard to the owner. In all probability the IM's you sent never got to them. I sell my own textures at what is probably the same store that you feel so upset with, and I can verify that sending an IM to the store owner is almost certain to get no reply, as her IM's are *always* flooded with vendor sales feedback. It says this in her profile, and her profile tells people VERY clearly that you MUST send a notecard to get a message through to her.

The owners of large SL businesses are MUCH harder to get hold of than the "one man band" shops, for the simple reason that they have FAR more message traffic to cope with. In many cases, far more messages than the SL IM system can hope to cope with.

So calm down, send a notecard, and if the person is who I think it is, she will get you taken care of fairly soon.

SL is notorious for having glitches that cause sales transactions to fail. It isn't the fault of the merchant, in most cases. It is a failure of the SL infrastructure to send the messages back and forth to get the transaction completed. Most SL merchants will, once contacted, be happy to check their sales records, and verify that yes, you did make a purchase of several texture bundles on the date you specified, and they wil then send you new copies of the bundles. After all, as long as you paid for the texture set, and as long as you are obeying the terms of service for those sets, there is no reason for them not to send you new copies. It's not as if you were talking about a no-copy item that you would benefit from having multiple copies of.

The customer service reps can't give you a texture bundle that they don't own. They can only escalate your issue to the artist who created the bundle(s) that you purchased.

If it's one of the large texture businesses, then read the owner's profile, or the signs all over the store. You will see that they have a specific avenue to request a not recvd folder of textures.

Go to your transactions history, copy the info that you did indeed pay into the vendor.

Paste that into a notecard along with a short note that your items were never recvd.

Rename the notecard to your name and current date.

Drop it into the REQUESTED person's profile.

Well first and foremost, content creators IMs are capped : there are only so many IMs allowed in the queue until the user logs on and purges it. Beyond that, all incoming IMs are ignored and the sender doesn't even know it. Same goes for inventory offers such as notecards.

The creator may also be on vacation. Unless you expect them to work 24/7 ? We're all humans you know.

You might have been in Busy mode while buying, or worse you might have Muted the creator without knowing. Also look into your inventory after clearing your cache and relogging, that helps.

Finally, SL is in cause. Vendors are automated and work well 99% of the time. However, based on how they are using in-world and out-world messages, they may fail when SL experiences a hiccup. On top of it, LL has specified in their blog not to buy anything during a certain amount of time because the asset server was unreliable.

Now, I'm not meaning to deny the fact that you might have lost your money and got nothing in return, nor the fact that you're the victim here, of course. It certainly is nobody's fault.

Conclusion, insist and please stay polite. L$1000 is nothing more than US$3.5, and the creator certainly didn't build his/her business by stealing people. Remember that reputation is everything here. Aring him/her is just asking for hostility in return, and your post here is already a step in that direction.

Peace.

You Guy's can make any excuse you like, this is really bad Customer Service. I said earlier I contacted one of the reps, he cannot help as the owner has all the power, his words not mine.

I really believe that this sort of problem needs to be aired and discussed. Named and shamed.

It is easy to understand, the full perms textures are in the creator's inventory, nowhere else. The staff cannot help but provide smart advices or filter real problems and that's all.

So you think that naming and badmouthing a vendor will help your cause although you don't even know where the problem lies in the first place ? Gimme a break.

OP, here is a piece of advice from 2 years of heavy usage of SL: If you want to have good relationships with people here, you must have a lot of patience. SL frequently does not work as intended and weird stuff happens on a regular basis. Assume first that people are good and you will do well, in general. Yes, there are "bad people" on SL but they are a distinct minority IMHO.

Maybe dis is why they are reluctant to assist you?

People have to sleep, work, and occasionally take a day off. As is in another thread, sometimes RL things happen that take people out of the game for an extended period time, like the loss of a loved one. Please be patient! If you have not gotten a response in a week, that is a different matter. But if you're kvetching after only a couple of hours, you need to relax.

I have been in SL for a year now, Builder, scripter and part of the "each-one-teach-one" movement. I spend alot in SL and deal with many retailers. 99.9% of which woud have solved this before it became an issue.

1000L$ is not a great amount of money, true. But it's not about the money, it's about service.

Naming and shaming is not badmouthing.

And lastly: The note card has worked, the owner is now in IM

Naming and shaming is just another form of griefing. We only get one side of the story. What is to keep his competitor from coming on here and making baseless charges? An Ex lover? Sure it might get cleared up, but how many people who saw the initial charge will miss the correction? The no names policy is in place for good reasons.
