Waaaaiiiit a minnit, Sling...

These avatars are in the Library, right?
The Library that is supposed to have unchanging content?
The Library that we never have to copy things from because they will always be there?
That Library?

And, the Lindens are proposing to ROTATE them?

So...I go to put on my cool Robot Box av to go over to Madhu's cafe, and I can't find it.
But...but, I just wore that thing last week!
I file a Support Ticket with LL...

"We're sorry, but we took away your favorite avatar. This week, try the new Barack Obama av...we're sure you'll enjoy it! [RESOLVED]"

Obviously, LL has been taking overdoses of their Stupid Pills again.

I don't see an original source to read.

Does rotate mean that everyone in-world will have their avatars in library changed? Or does rotated mean that the 12 avatars that a new person gets depends on the day the person joins. (People who join this week get set A in their library; People who join next week get set B in their library; etc.)

The latter kind of rotating would make sense to me. It would be similar to how names are introduced and retired over time.

Yes, that would make sense. I was basing my thought/fear on the fact that the "first set" of new avs showed up in EVERYONE's Library.

A rotation in which new accounts are presented with a 'menu of the day' for first avatars would make a lot of sense. It would force a variety of appearances.

Well, it would if the rotation were in the avatars offered on sign-in.
If the rotation was in the Library only, then it would be a bit pointless.

I have to say that the idea of updating the library was great ! for many times new comers asked me for clothes, shapes, skins, hair but now they can reach several nice pieces instead of weird yellow skins as the ones we have when we born... Last weekend I had a medieval party and I needed a costume and though my clothing folder is kinda big I didn't had anything medieval but when i saw that elf male costume I found that it was very nice indead... congrats to the new items... maybe the inclusion of some decents AOs should be also nice, not much but 2 different walkings and 2 different standings should be nice

The only problem with this is....I had a new resident show up the other day needing help. I happily told him to go to his inventory and search for "Boy Next Door" which was sitting in MY library...but it wasn't in HIS. Quite unhappily, I had to wear the avatar to get it from the library to my inventory, then return to my av to give it to him.

He was proficient and found everything else I asked him to search for, so I have to believe that had it been there, he would have found it. So wtf, it's there for old residents, but not for new ones?

That's odd, Honeybear. Probably a separate Library glitch, like we've had for a long time now, rather than policy.

I have to take back what I said earlier about the possibility that LL would be rotating the new av's in the Library...according to the blog post, the rotation will be in the avatars available for you to pick from during the Registration process.

That actually makes pretty good sense.

I believe the bit about rotating sets of 12 has to do with what is offered to new accounts as their 12 choices for what they can look like as soon as they first rez. Don't want to overwhelm Joe Noob with 200 choices, right?

I would expect as each batch or 12 gets released to the OI crowd, we'll all get them also in our Library folder, so we could use them ourselves.

Of course, that assumes some common sense at LL, which hasn't recently been a valid assumption. *smirks*

I already created my own "Library Avatars" folder just in case I run into someone who's not ready to comprehend the inventory yet. Plus, I like wearing some of the clothes myself. (^_^)y

The way I understand the blog post is that they are rotating the ones that are available to new residents on the website registration, not rotating library contents. I guess they'll put 6 out of 12 on the website at any 1 time, but they'll change which 6 it is.

This kind of thing has happened before with other missing library bits, it seems to be perpetually out of sync since they split us up into 16 or so inventory servers.

The stuff I am learning ... so you can give/copy someone an object by dropping it in their profile, but not a folder ...? I am sure I have been given whole folders of landmarks, clothes etc, a means of residents passing junk onto me lol !

Thanks elsewhere for giving me stuff Honey (via Axe), you are right, I am having fun !

You can give folders from your inventory to someone. From what I understand, the stuff in your library isn't *really* in your personal inventory. When you wear or use it, a copy of it is placed in your inventory. So you wouldn't have a folder you could drop on someone until you personally used the Library avatar. (And when I was futzing with it yesterday, it copied body parts to the body part folder and clothes to the clothes folder - I don't know if it will neatly copy an avatar folder if you wear the whole thing at once. Something else to play with if I get a chance, I guess.)

I haven't tried selecting stuff in the Library and just copying it to a new folder in my inventory and then giving that folder to someone, so I don't know if you can skip the wearing step.

It's exactly what I did. I made myself a "Library Avatars" folder and dragged the folders up from the library. Then I copied some stuff to my own collection and started modding. I have 6 different versions of the "Girl Next Door" shoes now just in color combinations alone. (^_^)y

I did this last night, but in a different way. I find shopping boring (well I am a bloke) so ended up exploring my library clothes whilst in the store (friend was busy elsewhere) and when I was happy with my choices, saved outfit ... I then found my clothing folder was cluttered with several garments, which I ended up deleting ...

I haven't fully checked out the new av's yet, but I did look at the Nylon Pickney stuff and I'm so happy about it. Good, basic jeans, cool boots, a good skin-wow.
Much nicer way to start SL.
