Do you use an ALT to live your SL sex life?

Thinking about this... I've gone the other way around. I made alts to explore PG roleplay because it was too far removed from what I do in my main. Funny to think that a PG character would be too embarrassing to multi-role Immy like that. (O.o)

For those of you still guessing. I'm referring to my dollie alts Glass Gearz and Krystalle Melodie. (^_^)y

No, I do not use alts to hide sex.

I tried making an alt to have a 'non-sex life' in SL, but she ended up dancing on a strippers pole somewhere anyway...

I told myself I just wanted to see if I liked the skin I'd bought her, but then she ended up doing it again...

I use my main as well as my alts. But the alts are not to "hide" anything. They are to explore and enjoy different roleplay characters and personalities.

It can be a bit awkward to be sexually active when using my main, because when using that account I tend to get interrupted more often by people sending me an IM for a business-related question. Not usually too bad, though. Most people are quite polite about holding off on their queries when I say "I am on a date with someone right now, can you contact me in a few hours?". Or I just put up with the distraction and converse with them by IM while continuing my planned activities.

I have an alt version of Ceera specificly for socializing, and if I really want to make sure I don't get business interruptions, I use that account instead. Most of the avatar shapes, clothes, adult bits and toys I like to use, I have duplicated in both accounts. That alt is still "Ceera", just with a different surname. She's even acknowledged in my main's profile.

But also, I like variety.

Many of my other alts allow me to play as very different "personalities". For example, Ceera is a very Dominant personality. Ceera would quite literally kill anyone who attempted to bind her, keep her captive, or force submissive behavior from her. But a few of my alts are the exact opposite. Very demure and submissive, eager to please their Mistress or Master. And not all of them are female, either. I couldn't possibly roleplay that variety of personalities or the multiple gender possibilities in a believable manner, as one avatar. Not unless I wanted the avatar to appear completely insane.

One of my alts is a collared submissive for Ceera's Partner, with the full knowledge of both parties that it's my alt. In return, my Partner has an alt that is one of my submissives. But my Partner and I are equals - two dominant personalities who enjoy each other's companionship.

Another of my alts is Partnered with a dfferent friend, and both friends know of and approve of the dual relationships.

Another of my alts is a male who was originally intended to be completely celibate. His purpose was to be a business contact liason, someone I could send to the most PG-rated, Business-Only types of places with no taint of other behaviors. A "college professor" type with essentially no personal life. But after a couple years he eventually did end up having a sexual fling, at someone else's request. I actually had to go out and buy "bits" for him, so he could participate in what the other avatar (run by a friend who knew he was my alt) wanted him to do.

I can certainly see where some people might use alts to "sneak around" or to "have an affair without someone else knowing". But to me, that is primarily a problem for people who see their avatar as a direct extension of themselves, and the relationships their avatar has as direct relationships with the other Player. I won't even start a relationship with someone who sees SL that way. I am a roleplayer, and each of my Avatars is a unique character, seperate and distinct from my Player. If someone agrees to have a relationship between their avatar and mine, they need to agree and understand that it is ONLY between the characters, and that all I offer from Player to Player is platonic friendship, no matter how intense the avatar relationships get.

What a fascinating way to switch.

This thread makes me ponder how much of what I do in SL is sex. A lot of it is sexual, but it's not sex, per se. I have also used alts to explore, but in the end, the only avatar with which I am emotionally invested is Love.

With Ceera, it was the only way to experiment with being "Switch" (Dominant some times, submissive other times). Ceera's personality had already been so well defined as an RP character in the 5+ years before I ever came to SL, that I found it impossible to place her in a submissive situation, even though I knew my Partner loved being a Dominant and having Submissives. When I came here, I hadn't directly experimented with D/s relationships at all (in RL or in Roleplay), though I knew of them, and knew I was more Dominant than anytyhing else in RL. I learned about that in SL, following the lead of my Partner, and doing much as they did. I wasn't even sure I could roleplay as a submissive at all, as I had never tried that aspect. Now I have several very happy submissive alts, and a couple of alts that are Switch, and go either way.

And yet, with all that variety... I would still say that over 90% of my SL life has nothing at all to do with sex! Just like in real life, I don't spend the majority of my time being sexy in the bedroom. Rather, it is a special time to share with someone I (or my avatar of the moment) care for.

It's not roleplay for me at all. Sure, there might include some form of RP, but that's not what is really going on.

well i did not hide my sexual activities with an alt, although after i got more serious in SL and got a job here, i really didn't get into much of such activities from then on....don't know why....maybe because this is starting to get more real for me while in the beginning i didn't really think of my AV as more than just a character in a game.

I do most of my pixel slapping as myself. I believe I have an alt that only comes out once in a while while I'm in a fugue state for only the most depraved acts (or so I've heard ).

I've had moments where i thought about making an alt just to get away from being related to having sex in SL..
My avatar used to be very much involved with the sex industry and very much loved sex in SL..I loved the freedom of trying things that you could not really go and do in the real world because it would shame you to everyone you know..

There is not much i do not know about that industry because i made it my business to know it..from what made clubs tick to what drew people to them to how a dancer could relate best to the people in front of them..then sharing that with people that wanted to reach for the same thing..

The last year it has became more and more about making things and trying to pull away from that reputation..I wanted to be taken serious for something other than knowing how the sex industry ticks..heck i even tried to change it in one club where we were going to ease out of nudity and try to do actual entertainment..
going from topless only then easing into choreographed shows..Drama ended up stepping in to kill that..

so building became the main goal..
but even in there if i would say something people would either relate it to me dropping hints of sex or them wanting sex..

I even had a serious business partnership that i thought was going to be about building and working together with this other person..
Not long after that formed it was easy to see that if they helped me i was to return the favor with sexual favors..

so that sent me into seclusion where i just built on my own 1024 alone avoiding IM's of people wanting to meet up for one thing and expecting the person they knew two years ago to show up..

I am not knocking SL sex at all or anyone that enjoys it..i still at times will wander there.. carefully though as to not start something that will be hard to stop..

but it is hard to break from that if you are well known for that..things in our RL lives or our SL lives can impact the changes..

I don't want to make an Alt because i love the avatar i have now..i just want to have a conversation with people that will not take certain words like kitty or horses and look at them as i am trying to turn them on or they are trying to see if i am dropping hints..

it would be nice if some conversations would be just what they are..two people talking and it be about the subject..A lot more are turning to that and realizing the changes i want to make and that is great...some are still friends and some chose to move along..
Also the forums really have helped with good conversation that is just that..good conversation and communication..it will be sad to see them moved to a watered down version..

I made my own bed and it is nobodies thing to remake but my own..I just hate losing friends.but that happens with changes..

I really don't even know why i am saying all of this stuff..It was a lot of great fun and i don't regret any of it..
It's not an attention thing or omg feel my pain thing..just something i felt like sharing i guess to see if others could relate maybe?


also i guess i am just saying it is hard to change a perspective that people place you in if you do decide to change..and i can see why people would create Alts if they wanted to avoid certain things now or later..

Mind you, I reckon he'll get around to shagging the odd customer at some point - that is if he can find someone kinky enough for lily-white freckled guys with comb-over red hair that *doesn't* hide male-pattern baldness.

I did the opposite, created an alt to get a break from my sex life.

Well, actually, that's not quite true: I created a male alt to have an alt male sex life but it turns out he's a total prude.

I'm celebate in SL although do I reserve the right to indulge in sex if I want to!

My 'official' alt is a plain black shiny sphere which very rarely logs in, and if it does, it's only for a couple of minutes on my sky platform, so it's highly unlikley to have a sex life. Others are just utility characters for scenes in possible SL snapshot cartoons.
