not that you should feel the need, but, if you wish, you can also add Alice Cooper and Lord Buckley to that list.

/me doesn't get the naz talk (does it mean fried nose in some other language?)
Damien1 I have always wanted to ask you (clears throat gathers courage) did you have to reregister and so put a 1 behind your first name? I have done that before if the signup page hit a glitch/I lost my password. Ya don't have to answer, of course. |

But I wanted the name due to the reason I originally started in sl, so I just added the 1. I had not ever tried any online stuff so I didn't really know the difference. But now I have way too much invested in me to even switch to my alt. _____________________

For me, names do play a part in my impression of someone. (positive and negative) Me as well. Of course, an obvious grief name is going to get treated appropriately, but I like to see names where someone put a little time into it. JOHNNY3290 is not as creative as other names, IMO, and implies that Johnny may well not be here for the long haul. It's likely a bad way to look at things, and there are *plenty* of exceptions (Damien1, above, for example) -- but seems to be the way I look at it all. _____________________

My name is long, but like many here I had used it other places on the web and it shortens to Whims easily enough. I definately think our names like our avs make impressions. We make the choices (even if last names are somewhat forced).
I have to admit I did go so far as to make one alt just so I could snatch up a name I particularly liked. Too bad I have never done much with her, but someday I might. |

Picked my name to rhyme as in 10+ years of playing on line games I have always found that people with short easy to remember names always have more friends than someone with random letters as a name. hehe my name actually is/was random letters prior to SL, I was signing up for a game elsewhere, and every name I tried was taken, I got frustrated and started hitting random letters and rhaorth was a part of the sequence of letters and I liked it (not sure why LOL) now...about 6 years later (3 of which are SL) I am still Rhaorth (and almost changed it to my RL name) _____________________

Scott is my RL middle name and I thought Scott Savira had a bit of a rockstar ring to it.
Now... I don't get too bent out of shape when I see people with dumb names, although I might snicker at them. If their name is Joesixpack3413 I usually assume they aren't very interesting... then again, I make an effort to give them a chance first. |

I used to have a bad reaction to seeing SL names with AOL-style screen names. I'm snotty that way.
Recently though I became a part-owner of a SL club. It is not so busy yet that I can afford to be snotty about whose money I accept. So as a survival skill, I have changed my attitude toward people with such names, so that I can be happy and friendly to them when they walk in the door. Plus, I have to be a little sympathetic about the fact that (a) there is no real choice when it comes to surname, and (b) common, normal names are snatched up so quickly that there is virtual no chance at them. Still, I wish there was some warning on the sign-up page that encouraged people to select their names carefully. One's name makes a first impression, and there are no second chances at first impressions. Choosing one's name is the single most important act of expression than one makes in Second Life. |

Pussy Galore was a man?!?!?!?!? James Bond is gonna be pretty upset. I suppose he would be, but then again he was broadminded (!) enough to give Plenty O'Toole the benefit of the doubt.... |

There is a way around it, by using slnamewatch.com. Yes. And some of the sites that offer names exclusively are very easy to use---registration is simply 'first name you want, last name you want, and birthdate'---just type those things in and you're done. This was true of the French site from which I got this name. |

When i chose my SL name, i was in a foul mood.
I chose "Briana" because it was a name i really disliked, and I chose "Dawson" from the list because i really hated that show "Dawsons Creek". 1 week later i was in love with SL and loving my name. Then i proceeded to try all kinds of things i hated in RL. Stripping, Tattoo's, Pierces....wow was i wrong about all that stuff...mostly. ![]() _____________________

Does someone's name help form your impression of them? Or does the name not play a part at all? Yes, it gives me an instant impression of the person. Although not always negative, I tend not to socialize with people who have numbers in their names as often. If it's an AOL looking name, I generally feel sorry for them, as they likely didn't understand that it was a login name, and not an avatar's name for in world. Sexual names generally get ignored completely. But no matter what, the name gives me an impression(right or wrong) of the personality of the person. For me, I spent a long time choosing a name when I switched avvies. Just ask some of my friends, I'm sure they got tired of hearing about it. *wink* Skylee Jinx waves to Naz. I get junk mail, mainly baby-related coupons, addressed to my avatar once in a while. I must have signed up for something sometime in the past associated with SL, but not part of LL. It amuses me.
