Who are the happiest residents in SL?

I was just wondering which sort of resident is likely to be happiest. OK, we all get a bit down when things don't work properly, something horrible appears on land next to our home or we make a disastrous mistake that costs us big L$. But I read of sim owners worried about the SL economy, content creators worried about lack of sales or theft, people in relationships that have gone sour etc. etc....

I'm single, a free spirit and don't have a huge investment in land and I build mainly for pleasure - I just enjoy the place. Is that the recipe for virtual happiness?

I think so. I think people with less to worry about are generally happier anywhere,RL and SL.

Though I must say I am pretty happy most of the time and have a lot to worry about. I think it might be a side effect from all the drugs I did in the 80's though....:o

I find the people most happy in SL are the ones who don't take the game/platform seriously. Those people are here for the intertainment, fantasy/fulfillment value and don't have much of a desire to to make lindens or avoid paying for the fun they are experiencing. In other words, the people who have an idea of just how much they are willing to put in the game to have fun and don't worry about stuff when it does not go their way.....sort of the "go with the flow" crowd. :)

Happiest overall? Or happiest compared to happy without SL?

The happiest person I ever met was, in RL, an extremely unhappy, married 63 year old lawyer.

In SL, he was the happiest 30 something lesbian you'd ever care to meet. So, he was in that second category.

On the other hand, I have no idea if the land barons are happy or not.

I will add this. I think for most of us, there is some serious empty place in our real life, and SL somehow fills it.

Okay I vote for miss Sideways :-)

Looking in the mirror, overall I am a quite happy resident. Though I do invest cash in land (rent 7500 m2, so quite a rent each month), and I do have a business, I don't worry much in general.

But the current way SL runs, does frustrate me. Not the fact I can't log in myself, I can do without for a few evenings ;) But the way SL operates at the moment, makes it impossible to do business. Which is a part of my Second Life after all. When 2 weeks in a row the platform either doesn't work, or residents get the advice not to purchase stuff, it means my sales drop to near zero, where I was about to make tier before. So I pay my monthly rent, I pay my 1300 linden worth of classifieds, and I pay my premium membership. In return I get a collapsing platform. And nothing comes from Linden Labs. They day they fill my account with a couple of thousand Lindens to make up for the useless classifieds, I am back a happy resident. Because it shows they care. And so far, it seems that I care about SL, but SL couldn't care less.

So, in the end I guess my vote goes indeed to Sideways ;)

I meant happiest in SL. I think my RL agency (called the Lagwoot Agency) get quite a lot fo headaches and chewed fingernails over SL but if they can't get me online I just go and lie on an empty beach with a coolbox full of fruit juice, lager and ice lollies.

I believe I fall into this category and, yes, I'm happy in SL.

I'm happy!

But that has little to do with the grid, or real life, or all that stuff.

There's a part of me that would roast marshmallows at the apocalypse...

I think the happiest people are those who are satisfied just making something awesome, whether they sell it or not. The high of creating is the "it" of SL and they feel no reason or need to justify their time in SL as anything but "playtime". That can be just about anyone in SL: designers, builders, scripters, event hosts, musicians, artists, bloggers, photographers, etc. I'm a professional appreciator (I appreciate everyone else making stuff for me to appreciate), so I love those happy creators :)

I'm happy. Grid meltdowns are an annoyance, but not something that bothers me all that much - I just use them as an excuse to take care of items on the never-ending "do list" in RL. I own an island and don't really care if the asset is worth nothing, I always expected to be here until the bitter end when nothing would be worth anything anyway...

In short - there are a lot of minor annoyances but overall SL is still more enjoyable than doing my taxes, going to the dentist, getting my transmission repaired, aging, or painting the bedroom.

Yup. Put me in this category too. I own some land, and run a little buisness, but I see all of that as recreational, part of what makes SL interesting to me.

I find it really easy to be happy in SL.

*hands you a big bag of fluffy white happy marshmallows*

While I do not discount SL's ability to make some people happier (especially those with physical limitations who can now "do things" in SL), I think the flipside is people who were fairly happy in RL can be made miserable in SL if they take it too seriously.

I think it's all a mindset and perception. But obviously a person who has a lot invested in SL (financially, emotionally etc.) AND who cannot let things slide will have an unhappier experience.

Happiest people? Those who can just be Zen, go with the flow, enjoy the opportunities that arise.

Ditto.....I own land I can afford to own without worrying about making the Ls' in my shop. I don't take SL so seriously that I flip every time there's a glitch. I dont do relationships in SL....I just do my thing and enjoy the exploring and creativity...and I've made some great pals along the way. But I've always been realistic about what I'm in it for and what I expect to get out of it. It's just entertainment for me and I enjoy it. So yeah...I'm happy.

At first I was gona answer "the single people" LOL But I'm gonna just be positive and assume there's actually some very happy couples in SL.

I dunno. I am a land owner and I'm not upset about the lowering of prices. I did not buy my land with the intention of actually getting the money back some day. I bought it because it was fun and I love to spend money.:o

One more vote for 'Imnotgoing'. :)

Who are the happiest residents in SL? Those who invest no more than they're willing to lose.
