ya if you come to sl to make a living i think yes you will be unhappy unless you came up with the best thing since sliced bread..
it's fun to play business on here but to actually make it my living here would be foolish since it is so erratic and risky.
rl business is risky enough..
i've learned if you love something keep it just that..something you love because soon as you start getting paid it will be a job and become work and the love dies.

There's a part of me that would roast marshmallows at the apocalypse...
Sounds like fun!

I tend to be a bit stressy about some things, but couldn't care less about others until they actually blow up lol. So with SL, i guess Im normally pretty happy.

Isabeau is probably right. The happiest will probably be those who invest no more than they are willing to lose.

I'm happy in RL after realizing that the ratio of hours in SL to probability of having flying dreams is very high.

And happy in SL because of the people I meet who are passionate about art and music like I am, and because of my friends who make me laugh and smile.

That and I can ski in Japan, dance in Greece, hangglide in Bora Bora, and rebuild my art gallery every day.. Try doing that in RL

I don't know.
One would think its not about friendships, partners, land, money or jobs.
One would think the happiest residents are happy because they are naturally happy real life people and happiness they feel isn't equated with things.
Things. Friends, Partners, Jobs and money can go always vanish.

One more vote for 'Imnotgoing'. :)

Who are the happiest residents in SL? Those who invest no more than they're willing to lose.

LMAO....I've just spewed coffee all over my monitor....... :D

I'm happiest (SL-wise) when I'm trying to make something new....maybe tinkering around with a script, playing with sculpties or coming up with an outfit that I'm proud of.... I love to discover new places...new to me anyway..lol I have a small shop - 1024 - it's small but I love decorating it and trying to pretty it up almost all the time...(the surroundings aren't so pleasing so I kinda have to..)

I've definitely not had the 'luck of the Irish' in RL regarding relationships so I give that a miss in SL. I just love the freedom to make things...if someone buys them that's marvellous, if they don't sell then that's just as marvellous, because I've still created something that I'm proud of. I feel happiest when creating....

I'm happy because being in SL is like being hepped up on goofballs.

I do miss my Sabre Toothed Lime.

I think the people likely to be happiest in SL are liable to be the ones who don't spend a vast amount of time on these Forums :)

I'll echo Pocket tho ... creating is the main thing in SL for me. I'm generally far happier making things than running around with other people looking at me all expectantly to provide them with entertainment and what they need, whilst very often not being prepared to give anything back.

I will add this. I think for most of us, there is some serious empty place in our real life, and SL somehow fills it.

This statement speaks volumes. How can a video game fill an empty part of someone's life?

Frightening stuff right here people.

People who realise that it's just a game, a diversion from everyday life instead of a replacement for it, are probably the happiest. Those who have a full and active real life and log on to SL now and then for a short while just for fun.

Not the Metaversians (the kind of people who can use the word "metaverse" while keeping a straight face) though. They take it too seriously, and then get stressed out when it all goes wrong. SL should be like real life gambling - only invest as much in it as you are prepared to lose.

EDIT: Just read the above post. What they said.

This thread is now about '"empty place" = vagina' jokes.

You go first.

There's, uh, probably a lot of things you didn't know about lindens. Another, another interesting, uh, lindenism, uh, there are only three jobs available to a linden. The first is making shoes at night while, you know, while the old cobbler sleeps. You can bake cookies in a tree. But the third job, some call it, uh, "the show" or "the big dance," it's the profession that every linden aspires to.

I bought a sim. Have a store. Have problems with builds now and then. Have troubles with viewer crashes. Have an outstanding ticket with support that is not even acknowledged yet after a few days. Had issues with griefers in the past and pretty sure in the future too. Have daily ups and downs with store's revenue.

But still happy :)

Because it's either this or playing Minesweeper.

I feel exactly the same... I'm rather shy and reserved in rl, and I think I am that way as well in sl.. I'm not nor have I ever been a social butterfly and can not fake it here.. I am an aquarian to a fault and am only happy when I can create..and Sl gacve me an oppertunity to explore something I have never done before.. I sew and had done so for as long as I can remember and I did so love my barbies when I was a lil girl

I find the people most happy in SL are the ones who don't take the game/platform seriously. Those people are here for the intertainment, fantasy/fulfillment value and don't have much of a desire to to make lindens or avoid paying for the fun they are experiencing. In other words, the people who have an idea of just how much they are willing to put in the game to have fun and don't worry about stuff when it does not go their way.....sort of the "go with the flow" crowd. :)

<blinks>Umm I guess anyone taking such an unstable beta game platform is very likely to have a significant amount of stress. :)

There's certainly no shortage of goofballs to be hepped up on in SL.

ABout a year and a half ago A new player came to our house lot looking for a building to use as a shop. SH ebought one and went home and had a little trouble assembling it so she IMed me and I went over to set it up for her.

We got to talking. She was wanting to start a business making lamps but was worried that it would never take off, she wasnt good enough, all the things new people worry about when starting a business.

I told her
SL is an awesome place. Find what you love to do. Your love of it will show in your work. Then if you make money great and if not at least you are loving what you are doing.

Her Business took off like a rocket...ended up being a full line of low prim furniture. She did fantastic. Far as I know shes still happily creating and loving it.

The people who are happiest and also the most successful often are the ones who truely love what they are doing.

In SL as in RL, the happiest are those who can be contented with simple things - like being able to logon.

I think the happiest people are those who are satisfied just making something awesome, whether they sell it or not. The high of creating is the "it" of SL and they feel no reason or need to justify their time in SL as anything but "playtime".

Spot on. I have one and a quarter sims dedicated to doing absolutely nothing at all other than being a place for me and my boyfriend to hang out and others to enjoy too. I have no interest in making money, but I figure if I have so much land dedicated to doing nothing well I see no reason why others should not share that as well.

So if you are looking for happiness then drop by :)

PS. I would note that Nature's Way is a nudist colony - although nudism is not mandatory

PPS. This may seem like a shameless plug but it's not really meant to be ;-)

Indeed its often the small things that make you happy.

Yesterday a brand new Av came to my parcel. Of course I provided him with the New Resident Kit, as well as a handful of lindens to start up (many "free" boxes are actually 1 linden). That, and his appreciation, made me a happy person.

The fact my sales dropped because the last 2 weeks people are advised to do no transactions, does frustrate.
But, every sale does make me happy. Not because of the lindens, but because of the appreciation of my creations. Even when people pick up a freebie in my store or on SLX, it shows that they like what I made, and that makes happy too.
