The Second Life Portuguese Speaking Mentor Group at SL5B
06-27-2008 06:03
The Second Life Mentor Group, have over 30 mentors that helps all the Portuguese speaker community, not just at Orientation Islands and Help Islands, but at private sims as well.
The group are formed for builders, scripters, sims owners, land managers, etc. All them are interested on help residents with everything that the Portuguese community needs. Our purpose is share experience and promote our culture and diversity. Cause of that, we decided to propose this project, and build an exhibit about the Portuguese culture, to expand the knowledge about our costumes and show all the SL community how important we are. The project consist on build a Caravala( its a big Portuguese ship, part of our culture). Inside the Land, we will put flags of all countries that speak Portuguese. We can see also the Brazilian Christ the Redeemer (statue) and the Portuguese Torre de Belém (Lisbon). Because of that, we are requiring the biggest parcel(8192m²). The fact is that we will need a considerable number of prims to show all countries that speaks Portuguese. We pretend to show these topics: 1) Cultural parties( like the Brazilian Carnival, for example) presents in Second Life 2) A Few project to help new residents in private lands 3) Differences (type and speak) of Portuguese speakers around the world We would like to say that we are really excited to be part of the 5th SL Birthday and we pretend to share our culture and costumes. Lost and Confused
06-27-2008 14:52
It's so ironic that my first post in maybe 2 years is one of confusion. I tried several times to visit the 20-sim celebration, but was totally lost and ended up leaving again.
I couldn't find a beginning (I know, there probably isn't one and why do I need one to explore ... but I do because it's the way I process information) so I was lost. And I was confused about what I was looking at. Do the sim names have significance for the types of builds they house? Or, are they completely unrelated? This thread will be of great help in giving me some direction, and with direction I can enjoy the build a lot more. Oh, and I found it a patchwork for when scripts were and were not enabled. With the Tiny Empires HUD my constant companion, having scripts enabled/disabled/enabled/disabled was also an interesting experience. I'll be returning tonite, with the aid of the notes I've seen here to guide me. Thanks everyone! _____________________

Jim, the sim names have very little relevance, save that "SL5B Birthday" is where the Linden HQ Exhibit is. You were right, there is no "Start" or "Finish". If you need a pattern to follow, start in one corner and follow an East-West sidewalk, looking at what is on both sides. Most of the sims have a sidewalk of this type right down the center of each sim as well as one on the border between sims. When you get to the edge, proceed to the next East-West sidewalk, and go the other way. The majority of the East-West sidewalks run the full length of the area.
You may find your way blocked on occasion by builds, or by sims that are too full for you to enter (Max # of avatars already in the sim). But I was generally able to cover most of the 20-sim area with that type of search, with fairly few detours needed for side streets. _____________________
Sorry, LL won't let me tell you where I sell my textures and where I offer my services as a sim builder. Ask me in-world.

Update

Hey guys!
We've come to the end of Week 1, but we've still got Week 2 left to go! : D I hope you're all enjoying the event! In addition to the SL5B Locations of Interest page, which ONLY has the Locations that have been posted here, I've made an extra Locations page, SL5B Locations of Interest - Extended which can be found here https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/SL5B_Locations_-_Extended I don understand that this is a bit late, but at least it's here now and should help you all to explore some more of the SL5B Estate in the coming Week! : D This page SHOULD have every parcel on the SL5B Estate, I hope it does, I've done my best. The information is there, I'm currently just putting it into a table which is gonna take me a while, it's all manual. At present the SLUrl's are not clickable but it tells you the locations of the parcel, I'll try and work on clickable ones soon, but no promises there. I hope this helps, I'll link the pages up asap. Enjoy the rest of the event! : D _____________________

Location: Hazzard County & Hazzard County South Posts: 124 Update We've come to the End of an Amazing Week 1! : D We've still got Week 2 to go yet! With loads of fantastic things left to do! As you may know, after seeing a Forum Thread here (Yes I am here, I have been listening to your complaints, suggestions and feedback! ) where Residents were posting details and SLUrls to their favourite Exhibits, as a handy help guide for Attendees of the event I deicided to do a SL5B Locations of Interest wiki page, where these details are! http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/SL5B_Locations_of_Interest Well, I've now listed EVERY SINGLE parcel that is on the SL5B Estate onto a larger table which can be found here; https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/SL5B_Lo...ations_-_Extended_Version Because we had some minor hiccups with land listing, I feel this table acts as an alternative to that, and also a quik guide to the Event Locations! No need to walk around 20 sims, if you're strapped for time just look at one of the location tables! You may be thinking this is a bit late, but it's not there's still a week of event left for looking around at exhibits. More info can be found at http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/SL5B If you re parcel or Update a sim name at the Estate now it won't automaticly Update the Main Table that contains every parcel in it as this is a manual process. Please enjoy the rest of the Event! ![]() _____________________

If this thread still updates to the wiki, I want to plug a very informative and well-crafted build by Aeneas Beaumont, the Sezession House, at http://slurl.com/secondlife/SL5B%20Delegoose/98/121/22, of interest to folks into architecture history of the turn of the twentieth century.

I built it mainly because I love the building (Olbrich, Otto Wagner and Sezession in general comprise my fav art anyway) and because I wanted to do something which isn't standard. It functioned a short while as my home in SL, until I ran out of prims ![]() Thanks for the plug, Qie =^.^= |

Star Wars and other worldly exhibit
07-01-2008 19:51
In my opinion so far the exhibits shown there really got my attention: http://slurl.com/secondlife/SL5B%20Render/211/244/38 they are side to side.
One is about Star Wars and the other about another dimension (also include a teleportable dimensional gate to another place). Finally, the Second Life Galaxy StarFleet quadrant command expo there: http://slurl.com/secondlife/SL5B%20Stretch/9/5/24 |
