I visited some of the exhibits this morning and was grateful to not encounter lag nor really many people. (Yea me! Found the best time to attend!)

I'm sorry I'm out of world now so don't have the lm's, but can fill any in later if there are some anyone is interested in. Many others I attended have already been mentioned.

I began at Mari's exhibit - (Thank you, Mari, for sending the list of great kids exhibits.) Others attended in the children's area were Ceera's castle, The Boyscout camp (it brought tears to my eyes when I saw the memorial and realized it was for those boys lost in the Iowa camp); what seemed to be the main starting point for the Kids SL5B exhibits (which mentioned the transmorgrifier (sp?) which I STILL haven't found. Im sure I'm missing some others.

Then from a lm given to me by a friend I hopped over to the non-profit section and saw some really pretty and informative areas re: in world counseling centers, various churches, a Moslem exhibit with three levels (including a museum and being able to go to the top of the minaret); an area based around Buddhism, etc.

By wandering around I found a WONDERFUL exhibit on SL Ballet. I watched a scene from "The Nut" (the SL version of "The Nutcracker";) which was absolutely amazing and tried some of ballet moves with the freebie animations in the area.

I ran across a build based on the Hogwarts rp sim and a really interesting place called "Chameleon" where I got some interesting freebie skins I can't wait to try on and again watched an awesome machinima film.

I saw the build for a pregnancy center and wandered in out of curiosity as the topic of SL pregnancies comes up once in awhile in the forums.

I know I'm missing some, but these whetted my formerly "bah-humbug" attitude to go explore some more.

Yer welcome!

The transmogrifier is in the Kids5b event, in Remedy II. I don't have a SLURL on me (not in world at th' borin place), but it's near the big ferris wheel, along the shore, in what looks like a magician's hat near the big milk and cookies.

I guessed at SLURL. I believe it is near http://slurl.com/secondlife/Remedy%20II/170/90//

And a soapbox moment: Loki and my build are no different from what we originally submitted. the boy scout camp is pretty much the same as their SL4B build. What us kid avvies are presenting in SL5B as well as Kids5B is, IMO, an accurate representation of our second lives.

Take dat, boogerheads at Sky News.

Mari

Lias I am not able to get In World, I am working away from Second Life and if I could get In World right now, Id be going around and listing all of the plots lol

The info can't go into a Notecard, there's welcome packs at the welcome area and they have a link to the Wiki. All of the inof can be on Wiki and does not have to be in a notecard : D Besides, we're trying to reduce lag.
This is not a auto notecard giver. It does not scan for people. People touch it to get the event schedule. No lag. The wiki is a discombobulated mess - hardly the 'user friendly' tool that should be used to inform new players about this event. A simple "Touch here for the SL5B Event Schedule" cube in the welcome area would suffice. I think you all are making this more complex than it has to be. I do not understand this "can't go into a Notecard". There is no reason that it can't. I do not think you are clearly hearing what people are asking for. They want a quick, easy guide to the SL5B attractions. No swimming through the goo of a wiki, no incomplete google doc - just a simple notecard that is almost everywhere. The copyable notecard giver that you can change from your location is the answer to the question people have been asking. I do not know why your in love with this wiki. Wiki to me is a dictionary - not a place one goes to look for events to go to. The music Organizers of SL5B knew that - that is why they have a external event listing website.

And K. Reitveld (Sim Coordinator, Dwell) didn't get the memo about listing the exhibit parcels in search. She gave me excessive greif about it.

Lias for Locations the Wiki is best becase is is easy to get to, I can update it without being on Second Life and I can input the data all into the table which I cannot do with a NoteCard, the info is also safe when the Asset Servers go borked. THAT is why I am putting locations into Wiki and not NoteCard, If I manage to get InWorld I may use a NoteCard too for that purpose only.

There info packages, 2 givers at the welcome area saying touch for contents.

I certainly wont be putting Events into the NoteCard. All the liveperformances are already listed and the link to that is on the Wiki near the top. Lots of Exhibitors have managed to list their own Events in Second Life Events. And the google calendar had the keynotes in. No one has sent me any events details THAT's why there's nothing more on the calendar, and if they did and I was using Notecard then I would have to manually make sure it is easy to read and in closest first, instead of an unordered mess with google calendar I can stick it into it's exact timeslot on it's exact day, and there's 3 viewing modes for people which are - 'Week' - 'Month' and 'Agenda' the link to that is on the Wiki page too, near the top where it says useful links.

But is your comfort-level really the point?

Use your wiki as a back-up if the asset servers go bork. Let people grab a event notecard when they teleport to the event so the exhibitors can get maximum exposure.

From: someone
I certainly wont be putting Events into the NoteCard.
Of course not. It's inconvienient for you.

From: someone
All the live performances are already listed and the link to that is on the Wiki near the top.
And the exhibitors should have the same thing.

From: someone
Lots of Exhibitors have managed to list their own Events in Second Life Events.
Those that have a 512M parcel listed in search at the exhibit space to list events on. We are at the mercy of the organizers to get even that.

From: someone
And the google calendar had the keynotes in. No one has sent me any events details THAT's why there's nothing more on the calendar,
You waited until the event week started to ask exibitors to send you information. And you only asked because of postings in these forums about the lack of marketing for exhibitors' events. When I asked you last week to do what your doing now you said it was too late for this year. Your doing the Linden flip-flop dance now. If you really wanted to post the event details of exhibitors you would appoint one of the greeter volunteers or linguists to go and get the information. I sent you a two page calendar of events and pointed you to the link where the exact same information has been listed in these forums since June 20th. So why aren't my events listed next to the keynotes on the google calendar?

From: someone
and if they did and I was using Notecard then I would have to manually make sure it is easy to read and in closest first, instead of an unordered mess
You just list every event under a day with a time next to it and a slurl. You update ONE notecard when needed and replace the card in the server. Then all cards at every welcome area update within seconds. You have many excuses.

SAMPLE
Thursday, June 25th
10AM Greenies: Q&A - what we are about - http://slurl.com/secondlife/SL5B%20Rotate/160/30/23
10AM SL5BKIDS: Exhibit Tour - http://slurl.com/secondlife/SL5B%20Dwell/160/30/23
6PM CLUB SCHOOL: International Virtual DJing - http://slurl.com/secondlife/SL5B%20Dwell/114/93/23
I'm not sure why this would be so difficult.

From: someone
with google calendar I can stick it into it's exact timeslot on it's exact day, and there's 3 viewing modes for people which are - 'Week' - 'Month' and 'Agenda' the link to that is on the Wiki page too, near the top where it says useful links.
I suggested the google calendar to you - but you just said no one is going to be listed on it unless they send you information - so it's blank.

There just needs to be someone with Real Life Marketing experience involved in something this important.

From: Meghan Dench
We did our best to list the plots at the Event. but there's 20 sims and other jobs took priority. Enjoy the event! : D
So much for planning a year in advance.

This went out to the SL5B Exhibitor's group TODAY

From: someone
Second life search can be a pain! Whats the fun in sifting through events that are over? We've solved that problem. See ALL of the events happing at SL5B - and only at SL5B and add your own! Why? Because we love you.

Grab this link off your notecard! Then along the left hand side click "Browse 5th Birthday Events" to find something to do NOW!
The link takes you to Zoho.com where D. Linden designed a form (not unlike the regular SL Events form) that exhibitors can use to post their events on a calendar by type.[/QUOTE]A notecard insisting that someone market the exhibitors was sent out on June 21st to the author of this notice, the Linden that developed the Zoho event listing form and several other Lindens and SL5B Organizers. All Lindens refused to respond and one organizer said it was too late to do any of what they are doing now. Well. it is kinda too late now - the first week is half over.

It's a real shame that marketing these events had to be shoved down their throats in this manner. Hopefully next year the organizers will be people who actually want to work with the community and make everyone succeed. As opposed to a bunch of people with fancy titles who will only respond to their small circle of associates.

Lias I have not been working on the Event for a year, in fact almost all of the staff have only been working on it a few weeks in advance. I started that google calendar because I want people to be able to list too, I have been working with the community. When you sent me the link to your event details did you send it in email like I asked people to do with things like that, or did you Instant Message it to me? In that case, it got lost, like a lot of IMs did.

I am trying my best to work for the community, I need some cooperation.

The avatars of Daryth Kennedy and the community that has grown up around them. Hatchlings, Wyrmlings, the great Wyrms, and never forget the hedgehogs. A community of dragon-centric, artisans, musicians, writers, dreamers and peaceful folk that happen to love dragons and are supporters of the artist that creates these unique expression of the imagination. Connected to the Elven Circle and forming an entire fantasy continent of beauty, gentle shores, incredible builds and drawing on the many great inspirations of the writers, artists and performers that have so caught the imagination in book, on the screen and in the heart. Here are not the hack and slash of the knight fighting the scaled menace, but rather the wise, gentle and playful beings of another world, another time, yet it lives and grows and has become one of the truly unique communities in Second Life.

And kudos to the forum readers that agreed with me that publicizing the exhibitor's hard work was not something optional. Your voices finally got one of the many organizers to make an effort to do the right thing. This is a lesson learned (too late for this year). Hopefully next year there will be some serious advance effort to respect the work of the community content providers who volunteer to create for this event.

Does anyone know where to find this Welcome Area that has the welcome packs/notecards that people are referring to? I would like to get one of these, but when I do in-world search, I end up on a courtyard but don't see any welcome information. Thanks for any assistance that can steer me in the right direction.

I think it is on SL5B Birthday Island. But that is a wild guess. Send a instant message to Meghan Dench and ask her where it might be in the 20 sim scavenger hunt.

Pick up a free Tiny AV (- the grey elephant is adorable) and explore this oasis created by the Tiny folk of Raglan Shire. There's a few other freebies here and there too.

See exhibits and slide shows of some of Raglan's recent events; get some free ice skates and go skating; take the Teleporter up to Zero G module, grab a free helmet, and experience weightless; roll down the snow hill in an ice ball; and there's a Critter Ball for Tiny dancing!
