oh...well that sux. what if ya just found the thread. what could possibly be wrong with that? If its a benign subject - people normally dont mind. But if its a subject thats gotten people mad over, or theres already threads open on the subject, its discouraged. |

I think what Jumpy is referring to is a thread being closed in which he had made comments about LL and their haphazard way of policing the forums and the grid. It was an old thread.

Jumpy from my perspective the thread was closed more for the content of your comments than anything else. Calling LL on being unprofessional rubbed them the wrong way.

Been in some communities where people really get their undies twisted if any post over 3 months is re-awaken.
I never understood it myself. But sometimes I must confess I find older post that I find interesting, not seeing the date someone else will respond, and I see the last message with recent posting and have no clue it was older then someone will respond curse us out like in the other forum and I respond where is rules about this why not just lock the thread if its true.....no one responds who is complaining. Yet there are people who post in forum just to tell people that they shouldn't be posting something because it annoys them instead of just ignoring the thread all together. I guess they must be extremely bored or feel very self-important thinking people are going to stop something because they said so. _____________________

/me laughs at thread
Jumpy, I appreciate your efforts to surface questionable resmod criteria, and agree that now is a good time to review them, when new resmods may be put in place. I do wish you would send your Dad by to carry on the discussion, as your 8-yr-old persona is forced to operate in such an indirect fashion. Or maybe you have and we just don't know it. Personally, to me the 'necromancy' part of Strife's standard lock text has always seemed a little off target. I've never seen a thread closed for simple necroposting; rather, only when the resurrection seemed part of an effort to discuss a controversial topic that has already caused thread closures. So I'd prefer it if that were the criteria: thread lock dodging. However, I haven't participated in dozens of different forums as have many here, so I bow to others' judgement. _____________________

I don't understand why anyone would go back and dig up old dead posts. At the same time people get pounced on if they bring up a subject that others feel has been beaten to death. It's kind of a no win for the new person to the forums...and NO, searching through old threads is not an option even if the damn search worked. It's not nearly the same as the interaction involved in a current thread.
People need to remember there are always new people in the forums, or old people who haven't been around awhile and that some subjects will come up again and again and again and not get their panties in a wad. That being said, I'd love to see all old threads locked automatically after a period of time. Maybe 30 days. |

In the case of thread necromancy, it's a case of darned if you do, darned if you don't.. in some forums. You can search on a topic and find the only thread on it is about 3 months old and been dead about that long. So, you decide, hey, this problem is still around, "I'll post to it and be considerate!" Apparently, you get jumped for necro-rezzing the thread.
Later, you find another problem and decide to search for it before posting. Again, an old thread that's been dead about 3 months.. so, since you were jumped for the necro-posting, you decide to start a new thread.. only to be jumped for NOT bringing the old one back to uncertain life! I say on the topic of necro-posting: Darned if you do, darned if you don't, so pick the way that's the most fun for YOU! _____________________

Jumpy, the subject you raised in that thread is deserving of discussion.

I totally agreed with Jumpy on that post. For those of you who didn't catch it:
Jumpy said that the way that LL punishes residents inworld for stupid stuff that they do in the Forums is completely unfair. In other words, if someone gets banned from the Forums, they get banned from SL altogether. This just doesn't seem right to me. Sure, we can get a little insulting in the Forums, but that's no reason that we can't be civil inworld. Sheesh. _____________________

I agree, the cross banning is ridiculously draconian. _____________________

Yes, I think this policy, if it is still in effect, could stand review as well. That makes two. Any more?
1. Necromancy as a criteria for locking 2. In-world banning as part of forum banning. _____________________

He also said he has been banned longer for forum conduct than he was for crashing a sim multiple times.
