One thing that may not be obvious is that the oceans are perhaps the least fun places for underwater vehicles because they're limited to 20m depth. A lot of "freshwater" lakes are much deeper...
That's something I never knew.
(what fun to own an entire such lake---it would be criminal to neglect to put a colony of plesiosaurs down there...)
