Is there a large lake anywhere in Second Life where I can test my boats? I tried one of the Gulfs, but it does not let me put it down, to test it.

Do a Search for Rez Zone. Most Linden oceans have areas where anybody can rezz boats, etc.
THe Blake Sea is a particularly large water area and has a number of Rez Zones.

Try Fruit Islands, it is a series of private sims I believe about 70. It is gorgeous there.

The Blake Seas are made up of 40+ sims and in the NE corner or each Blake Sea sim is a small rez zone ~ 50mx50m so no need for LMs or remembering where the rez zones are. Just remember they are in the NE corner.

I put a free rez zone in front of my dock in Pine. There is a ten minute auto-return to avoid clutter but thats plenty long enough to rez a craft and get sailing.

A couple of empty Linden water regions and interesting waterways off to explore.

Enjoy :)

There's a rezz zone at the dock at Caddo. And my beach at Owasco allows rezzing.

question: do the sea areas suggested, allow low lazy flying over?....I've got a little 'phoebe' steampunk thingy and haven't found anywhere of decent size to fly it. As soon as I get on it and poodle off, ban lines spring up, or I'm removed from the flyer or even on occasion, ejected from the sim without warning.

Yes. The Blake Sea area is big - lots of open sea with the occasional island. And it's often pretty empty during weekday, 9 to 5, UK time. Can get a bit busy at weekends though. This Sunday just gone, there seemed to be a good many boats; perhaps they were racing? Don't know if that would affect you up in the air, but it certainly made it laggy for this mermaid.

Oooh, nice thread! Keep the suggestions coming, especially estates. I've been wanting to get some land near a body of water, but the last time I scoured Blake Sea the only viable plot I found for sale was going for lik 200000L. :(

There are a couple of open linden water regions off my dock (link in previous post) they are often deserted so you'd pretty much have them to yourselves (famous last words).

I also have the Phoebe and it's a great flying machine. You should be able to rez it in front of my dock and have great fun with a whole region to yourself. I have Argent's Moewe and could really let it rip over the water :)

I thought it would be a great idea for someone (with resources, so obviously not me) to have a large area set up to rent out docks or hangers for airships. It could be surrounded by plenty of open water or unused land for flying all of those great machines that often go straight to inventory because there's not many places to fly them.

Thanks for this thread! Just the thing I've been looking for.

Forest of Kahruvel
12-07-2009 12:30
The entire Forest of Kahruvel on the Mainland continent of Sansara normally is set to be publicly rezzable and an autoreturn of 7 minutes. The forest is just east of the Abbotts Aerodrome and covers much of the long thin island just below the Immaculate region, almost 300,000 sq m. covering most or parts of nine regions. It's coast borders one of the first large inland seas.

http://slurl.com/secondlife/Rodeo/201/80/108

There is a seaside village with dock areas, fully rezzable, in the south western part of Kahruvel in the Cowell region.

Ahhhhh... I'm using the IMG tags to make a workable link. Looks fine in Firefox. Never realized it was borked for some other browsers. Maybe I'm missing something... let me check

Update: Looks fine in both Firefox and IE7 on a Windoze box - so what gives?

nice thread replies here....yeah it would be great to just poodle about on your little flying machine with your honey, or sail into the sunset with a little boat........all we ask is just an area to do our own thing sometimes, more often than not we've got things in our inventory that rarely see the light of day because we're not allowed to rezz them. Keep the suggestions coming, I'm making a list of cool places :)

Well here's the answer to that question:

The default setting in the user control panel for showing images is unchecked.
In this state use of the IMG tags created a working URL for any standard link which is handy because the URL tags don't.

With the option checked IE shows a red X and Firefox just shows nothing. Wonderful.

So, I'm turning that off again and in future will insert both fudged but working links using the IMG tags and borked URL links for everyone else.

I may get a few more people check out any land I put up for sale in future (not that it's worth b* all these days)

There's a yacht club just off the Blake Sea that has dock spaces for rent. It's on the NE corner of Alvensleben sim. I think they also allow rezzing on site.

Have a look at Miru sim on the Map.
My group has the island in the middle and a lot of the shoreline to East and West of it.
We haven't got down to serious building yet, but there is a harbour on the Northern end of the island. Play chess or chequers on the piers if the weather is too stormy for nautical stuff.
All of our parcels are build for all, with a 5-minute autoreturn.
You can rez your own there or take a little motor boat from the auto-rezzer.

Sail North to get up to the next continent past the ANWR oil rig. There are some ban-lined parcels to watch out for though. I should do a map at the harbour.
As you'll see on Map, there are many wide Linden waterways in the area.

Sail south into the collection of Linden water sims and islands. You can get to the other Linden oceans South and West of those via channels.

For Adult sailing (or sailing in Adult sims) you can rez or take an auto-rez boat at my parcel on the South end of Leuran sim in Zindra. Sailing along the coasts of Zindra can sometimes be more stimulating than sailing in other areas.
