Thanks for the info Tiana, I appreciate it. I'll go back and check them out. Just seems like a great place to go hang out. I haven't found any hangout joints yet.

I don't know if there was a thread about this before, but I was just curious. I'm thinking of getting an SL job so I will stop using my own money to feed my shopping addiction and I was curious as to what others had done for their first jobs and how you felt about it. - Storm My first SL job involved solving murder investigations for free on the CSI:NY islands. I have come to understand that the avatar that they give you, while not modifiable, is a large leap forward to the normal default avatars. So, actually I take back that "no pay" part. I was paid with a higher quality default avatar. Unrelated to thread, but as I've gone this direction: 1) The OnRez viewer is not "instinctively" easy to use 2) The orientation may or may not be better than the normal OI (which I have never visited) as an avatar learns on the go and many greeters are around. 3) I was somewhat "trapped" on the island chain as I didn't immediately grasp that there was more to SL than the islands - no helpful indicators. 4) CSI:NY specific avatars: something like 12 choices, all human, 6 men, 6 women, mixed race; higher quality initial avatar that is not modifiable; avatar, I've learned, is tiny compared with what you find in the rest of SL (my six foot tall avatar is puny, there was one very lovely woman that noted that if she took her heels off, she would be shorter than me . . . she told me as she towered over me). 5) CSI:NY unique last names --------- After going through CSI:NY, I am not particularly eager to find "camping", "moneytrees", or a job. |

my first sale was a Tank Girl T-shirt (4 versions), a vendor I put together after month two, now in my 11th month and still have that original vendor with the same 4 T-shirts in it.
Oh and thanks Brann for buying one ![]() |

5) CSI:NY unique last namesSeriously? They have a different set of last names for going through them than the normal SL names?

5) CSI:NY unique last namesSeriously? They have a different set of last names for going through them than the normal SL names? ![]() Yes, I do not have the complete list of names, but it is something I read in another thread. Go to http://www.slnamewatch.com/, look at "Active-Alt Only". This is all "unique" names, not just CSI: NY (see the 91724 users with the last name: GossipGirl). There are 663 Njaim's out there, and yes, David Njaim and Ray Njaim were taken when I signed up. I keep almost starting a thread to ask if any other person that started SL through the CSI:NY sims is still around in the larger SL world. I know that I didn't find any Njaim, other than my own, that had anything other than the CSI:NY group in their profile (if even that). My examination was very brief, though, not exhaustive. |

Making a sign for friend.
Although I don't really "work" much here. I occasionally make textures for friends. Only building job I had briefly was with Inc and Ur when I decorated a haunted house that I am not sure many saw ![]() _____________________

I opened a terraforming/landscaping service. It quickly turned into real work, so naturally I shut it down. I'm here to spend, not earn.

I didn't have a job until I built my cafe, but now I guess hosting at the cafe is my SL job. In the couple of weeks since it opened, I haven't spent nearly as much time elsewhere on the grid. And I put a script in that IMs me when someone arrives, so if I am in-world I will pop over and greet the new visitor.
It's great fun and I have some good ideas for future builds that will expand on the theme of the cafe toward a gallery/museum kind of place. And if there is interest I might offer for sale some of the items in the cafe that I built myself. But I suppose it is still a job in the sense that I give it priority over other activities I might like to do in-world. Doesn't pay all that well though - I need to rescript my donation bowl so that it picks up visiting avatars by the ankles and shakes them until the Lindens fall out of their pockets! ![]() _____________________

I love the IM script idea, I have gone to so many places and have absolutely no one there. Not that I mind, but I think it's a great idea and good customer service to be aware when people are visiting and dropping in to greet them. Where is your cafe? If you don't mind me asking...... I would love to see an Avi hanging upside down and watching Lindens fall. LOL......that cracks me up!! |

First SL job: I made stuff. I still have a single store open that is just barely in the black, but it has things from some of my friends who are now wanting to start the joy of working for a Sliving.
Current SL job: Boy toy. The pay is actually about the same and the work is so much more fun ![]() For me, 15 minutes RL work pays more in L$ value than one full day of SL work. YMMV, etc. |

Full time shopoholic, PiTa and snuggler. Dabble into general confusion under the mantle of helping, with occasionally accidentally giving good advice.
Sorry about the last.. I really try for that not to happen. ^_^ |

Stripper, "pretty face" at events; same job (though the stripping wasn't at events, though I'd occasionally do so).
That other thread, the one that mentioned the "robotic, just clicking on the pole and dancing" strippers? I'll note here that I used my own dances, greeted any and everyone that came in, said bye to those leaving, and flirted with the customers. Frustrating the number that didn't say anything, especially as we were the entertainment, center stage. I think it was four months I worked there. There was one woman who tipped me something like L$1K. Grand total over four months was something approaching L$1.7K or maybe even L$2,000. Of course, I've made about that amount from my hand-made original real world artwork that I've imported into SL, but there the "in-take" is spread over roughly 10 or 12 months. _____________________

Me, work? Yeah, right. This place is all play.
Although, I did have lots of fun dancing on the Pole last night. Maybe I'll wander over to Carli's new spot and give it a whirl. ![]() _____________________

Only reason I am looking to work again is to help with my other job, being addicted to shopping. I dont want to put anymore money into SL to feed that habit!

That's okay, I think you got more than enough pics anyway. ![]() Actually, I got more, they are just hidden as they fall outside the PG guidelines. One reason why the pictures are numbered, but not all the numbered pictures appear to be present. ![]() _____________________

My first job was as a dealer at a poker room.
My second job was as a fund manager. Just kidding. I've never had a job in Second Life. I've been offered, but I'm really not interested in working. I work in real life, I come here to get away from that although I'm sure most people here that work are mostly doing it for fulfillment, entertainment value or to help out friends. |

never had a job.
I did think about it, and i even posted about it. I think it may have even been my first thread - can't quite remember lol. I think i just figured it would be easier to pay my way rather than work until I found something useful to do with my talents. I am still looking now lol. i haven't ever really settled into one thing or the other. Maybe that means something, maybe it doesn't, Im having far too much fun as it is without the hassle of trying to get a job etc. _____________________
