Friends cards has been a great way to spread person multi notes. Friends seems to some less then it use to be. But then again for others it reaches deeper.

I stopped trying to use notes, SL kept deleting the notes I would put in someone's profile

(and yes it was saving it, as I would be able to reopen their profile and see the notes, but then at a later date, reopen that same profile and notes wiped clean)

*shrug*

I do not depend on the notes section anymore

Last count (before I got bored and stopped) was well over 2,000...... Many of which are closed accounts, or changed to alts for whatever reason.... my mute list is almost as big though :p ....

I hate it when someone gives me a card, and the blasted folder opens in my inventory, just as I am about to drag and drop something, and have to scroll up about 20+ pages to get to the next folder up lol....

I use the Notes in profile, mainly for business... it's one of the good things with the client.... I also make notes for some people (friends or otherwise).. like.. 'Drama Queen, high maintenance', 'Suffers PMT at the rate of 3 women', 'Likes to chat your ears off', 'Will get round to asking for money at some point in the conversation', 'Only ever TP's me into cr*p events that no one else wants to go to, to make up the numbers'... LOL..... glad you can't see your own notes...

I have probably 700 or near. I been here a long time and met a lot of people, mostly furries. I keep my friends list organized as much as possible. In my inventory it keep the colling cards in different folders showing how close of a friend they are. I have probably 500 of those names in a folder marked (cant see me) because they were either random people that i accepted friendship, constantly IM me, flirt with me, or map me. The rest of them are sorted by people who don't bother me too much, talk to me about interests, have permissions to map or modify, co workers, and family/close friends.

I would probably have about 1,500 if i didn't prune it once in a while of people i have no idea who they are. ;p

I only use my own notes hehe. It helps me keep track of what i have to say about people. :p I keep it in my own profile so that i can easily see it. This way if "firstname lastname = avatar maker" is there i will know who to visit if i want a new one. :)

I just don't get why people horde friends. With hundreds of friends, there is no way you can even remember who they are, what they do, where you met them, etc. Even if you "notes" everyone of them (like I do), you still can't claim to "know" them. You would never have enough time in a day, a week, a month, to hang out with them all...even if you scheduled time...

:)

Don't take this personally but, I guess people feel like the more friends they have, the more important they are, or the more "loved" or "wanted" or "accepted" they are.

Maybe someone can give me their constructive ideas as to why people horde friends.

I guess it's all about how you define the word "friend." Personally, I have very few real friends. People I could call and have them come pick me up in the middle of the night if I was stranded...that's a friend in my eyes.

A true friend IMs YOU out of the blue, and wants to hang out. Not someone you always have to IM...a true two-way street...and that's rare. Second Life itself is a tricky thing...I only have like 3 people in SL I would consider my true friends. People I could call on the telephone. People that call me and want to hang out with me because they live near me.

For me, a true SL friend is a RL friend too.

ps. again, don't flame me for having an opinion, and trying to understand. I'm not knocking anyone personally...just a blanket set of thoughts.

This is why i categorize them. I know who is who no matter how many they are hehe.

Friends are one of the last remaining reasons why SL appeals to me. Aside from the creative canvas it gives me to express myself. The more friends i have the more i want to be here.

Geez sometimes you actually talk sense.. but their are times when you like to wave your brush of morality and human behaviour across us all..
I don't Horde anything.. nor do I feel more wanted by the simple fact that I can't be bothered to clean out my folder full of cards... I did notice that your card isn't in there unless you have used a lot of alts....:p . BTW, don't send me a friendship invite, my folder is full... LOL
There is a whole raft of layers, whereby we place classes upon what we consider friends. Those in my friends list are there because I agreed to put them there at somepoint, on the basis they seemed 'Friendly'... the ass*les are in my mute list... which I also don't bother to clear out.

Listen AWM,

I don't pussyfoot around issues. I tell it like it is--you always know where I stand. Everything I say doesn't come out of my mouth to make friends or ease your troubled mind.

I try and be clear that I'm not jabbing anyone personally...please try and grab from my posts the insight within, and don't focus on my lack of diplomacy. When I want to be diplomatic I can be...however, I don't feel my calling out sociological traits and patterns to be trolling.

*shrugs*

I respect your input.

ps. A true friend stabs you in the front.

:)

You specifically asked for a clear understanding of why people horde friends cards in their folder... remember that.. YOU asked...
I gave you my perspective.. I dumbed it right down to remove ambiguity... YOU made the statements, which deserved a response as you always do.. yet added 'please don't flame me, nothing personal blah blah'.. if you don't want a response, don't ask..... you sure you're not female?
If you need something to keep you busy, then at least volunteer to clean out my friends list.. perhaps it might give you a greater understanding of this human being.. as I do not speak for anyone else. Hell.. I'll drop the whole lot on you tonight... should keep you busy for a while and save me the time sorting it all out.

Someone who is pretty insightful once told me about a certain poster in this thread who shall remain nameless (not you) -

"I dont think he means to come across as a (Prim Part) , he just cant help it."

I didnt agree with her, I couldnt believe anyone was that clueless.

I have 3 friends... do I win a prize for lowest friend count?

Yes. I've been on since March, and if I recall correctly, I have 3 friends. As you have been on since January . ..

When i replied to that last post i made sure i didn't say anything aside my reasons, to prevent derailing the thread into a flame fest. ;p just fyi. :)

But yea *re-quotes the reasons*. if it wasn't for having made friends in SL and the ability to shape the word however my mind wishes, then i probably wouldn't be here today. Those are the only fun points i find in SL. I do enjoy SL because of those things. The more i build, and the more friends i make, the better i feel and the most likely i will stay. :)

From memory, anyone you deleted their calling card, would get a notification.. but now they just dissappear from your list and you theirs...

Unless there are more than one definition to the 'friends' list and you could perhaps create 'Aquantience, Met only once, Friend, Good Friend, Best friend, Business etc etc', we are all lumped with just one heading where all those are stored into a single list. The term friend for me, as I said previously, is a multi-layered thing.. but until something changes (although I can't think of a good reason why), 'Friends' is just a folder heading that incorporates the whole shebang. It is me that knows which category each lives in.
