So, apparently all Combat areas are to be rated "Adult" now?

From: Love Hastings You're over thinking this. LL simply wants to segregate all the stuff which they believe keeps all those rich corporations and universities from buying into SL. I doubt they really care how it mixes in its new home. And they're probably in for a nasty shock when all those companies don't start lining up waving buckets of cash at them. I have visited corporate sites in SL, in fact my company has one....they are vacant. Unless they appeal to inworld citizens, who will go? BT

In that case they will want to push Gore to adult sims. Thinking of the corporations. What with the economic impact of Gore's views on the environment, and the evil corporations destructive polices in regards to the environment. And how they will be economically adversely impacted by implication of Gore's ideas on immediate steps to lesson the impact of human activity on the environment (corporate and other).

From: Rime Wirsing Newsflash: rich corporations and universities are getting scarcer and as for buckets of cash... There are still plenty of companies with buckets of cash. It's the ones with boatloads of cash which are becoming scarce.

Sure, and without his influence on it's environment, the existing mainland will be rotting in it's own filth. All the while the new adult continent will be reveling in it's own filth.

From: Cortex Draper Killing with axes and swords is common in childrens video games. Kingdom Hearts (a Disney-themed game) has just as much violence with a sword as Samurai Island combat .

From: Looli Vella I'm surprised this hasn't come up sooner. I find the grouping of the two together more than irksome. And I haven't heard anything that talks about how the new triple-X rated nawty continent is going to be "zoned."
I'm not interested in combat or bloody, murderous violence, and I sure don't want to overhear murdering mayhem in chat when I'm being, uh, let's call it wined and dined. I'm not condemning it, I can see murderous violence's appeal, but it's a weird mix.
I'm curious if they've given any thought to this or if they are assuming that all "adult" activity can co-exist peacefully. People may not want gore with their Gor! I can't say I disagree with any of the above. But at the same time, I'm glad violence is also going to be considered adult if we *must* have these ludicrous changes.

I have to say that I am a little surprised at the lack of outrage about this aspect of things - everyone has been talking about the sex thing.
Blondin made statements early on about it only being the most gory kind of combat - most combat systems wouldn't be rated Adult at all.
I'm surprised that there hasn't been more issue with the drug side of things, though.

I'm surprised that there hasn't been more issue with the drug side of things, though. Drugs? Are there drugs in SL? The closest thing to drugs that I've seen was a cool "mushroom" that you attached to your hand and gave you hallucinatory sights and sounds. Well that and the absinthe fairies.

When all is done, anything not Squeaky Clean for Joe McWhitebread will be classified as Adult. They just didn't want to lower the boom all at once.

From: Ceera Murakami Reading the new "final" rules on Adult content, it appears that all Combat areas are to be rated "Adult" now? Shooting guns or arrows or hacking someone to bits with swords or axes with the intent of "killing" your opponents and causing their "death" would seem to absolutely require being in an Adult rated sim now. I see no exceptions. Death is death. So, Tombstone, Toxian, Samurai Island, DCS damage enabled places need to be flagged Adult on the region basis and not as a plot by plot? Why not just make SL like WoW and have everyone pay to play?

I remember Blondin was asked specifically about DCS and said that that was considered "Mature" and not "Adult".

From: Love Hastings LL simply wants to segregate all the stuff which they believe keeps all those rich corporations and universities from buying into SL. I doubt they really care how it mixes in its new home. And they're probably in for a nasty shock when all those companies don't start lining up waving buckets of cash at them. There was a time when a corp put up an SL site in order to 'actualize conceptual new dynamic media streams in a postpresent virtualized social marketplace paradigm,' because... well... it has a whole load of buzzwords you can cram onto a press release. - But things like that only last until the next buzzword pops up. And we've through several since SL was where you did your 'actualizing' and on to today's 'twitter actualizing'. Nobody's going to rush into SL now. Today, it's just 'another' 3D MUSH.

No sex and no violence. The mainland will be full of bunnies and gardens. How sad.
