I have been guilty of being so intent on camming around the various products that I do not always notice that someone has entered and said something until a few minutes later. If I notice it before the person leaves, then I always say Hi and apologize for missing their chat, but sometimes they are already gone.

Usually people don't ignore me, sometimes i get way too much attention which i can't handle. I can understand that it can be AFK, photoshop or real life stuff, but when you can clearly see that someone's pretty active and chating with others while ignoring you it's a lil bit confusing >.<

Yeah the new viewers IM panelle does bing and flash , but not in local or if the window is already open, and it's not notice, so if you say hello to someone then minimise the window it does flash when they reply, but it's not noticab;e unless you are looking in that corner of the screen, it's actually better to close the window if they don't reply early

I get ignored all the time since I'm not one of the "beautiful people", but I guess it doesn't bother me much. I have enough in-world friends and acquaintances, and there's plenty to do without being upset over someone ignoring me.

Hi I'm Maggie Haas. Nice to meetcha. I go to OPEN LATTE in Mill Pond to make lotsa new friends and hang out with the regulars. The cafe is a busy place I pop in and out all hours of the day and night. When you go look for Grant, Velveeta, Soy Source,Mechelle, Diwatawata, they are some of the friendly fun regulars i hang with. Its a friendly place so just greet everyone that walks in the door and everyone you walk past by name and chat with everyone
Every one is friendly, if they are busy IM with each other or with their groups or reading an SL book or reading through search for an activity they wont see you cause they are on another screen. it seems like they are ignoring you but they aren't either that or they don't speak your language. When you travel alot in sl you will find some places are more relaxed and friendly like going to check out discussions in the events menu in search or a sports event or fashion shows ballets concerts and dramas are fun. Try out different kinds of places and you'll meet lotsa cool people and join several different groups so you'll have people with the same interest as you to chat with on those lonely days in sl when its deserted you can IM your group and talk with anyone in world and teleport them to a fun place yo like to visit or hang with them. The more groups you belong to the more friends you make and their chat messages always light up your screen. Well hope to get my system up and working again si i can log back in to SL soon. All but one person I know in SL was introduced to me by a friend after this friend told me some basic things about them. It's rare I make first contact with anyone. It's rare I talk to people I have not been introduced to. Knowing something about someone does not mean I "know" them but having the third person in the initial conversation is about the only way I do get to know people. This original friend, incidentally, was a guy who introduced himself to me and carried about 95% of the conversation, patiently, until I felt comfortable enough to actually TALK as opposed to responding to specific questions and only speaking of surface things like the weather or something. Sure, I'll say hi to people, I will answer basic questions, but I rarely "talk" to people I don't already know. |
