From: Bradley Bracken That's nearly 1,000 people. Not many but no small number IMO. $1,000/mo may not sound like much but there's many people out there flipping burgers as a second job for less than that. To be able to earn that much with something most enjoy doing is a great thing. US federal minimum wage is $5.85/hour. Many states have a minimum wage that is higher, sometimes a fair amount higher. (http://www.dol.gov/esa/minwage/america.htm). This works out to a bit under US$1k/month, given a 40-hour week and a 4-week month. Also, again, the numbers are _before_ tier and such. Would I like an extra US$12k a year? Damn right I would. Would it be worth a heavy investment of time to get it? Not for anybody that isn't well under the US poverty line. The point is only that the OP said many have become dependant on SL income. I just don't think it's that many that __net__ that much..

I'd be rather annoyed, and would seek another RP venue in which to meet with my friends. Probably I would go back to the largely text-based one that I came here from.
I'd lose a small supplemental income, but would gain 20+ hours a week to do other things in. Most of what I learned to do in SL wouldn't translate elsewhere, though my Photoshop skills have improved, and that would help my art hobbies. I'd probably spend more time doing cartoons, caricatures, and furry art, and maybe try to start a web comic.

I'd trade e-mail addresses and log-ins with my friends, and then switch to learning ActionScript, or maybe Lua for Metaplace.. That said, if SL did shut down, most likely OpenSim and the Open Source client would still be around, and most likely there'd be a project going to bring it back as an open system which I'm sure would value more participants.

I would miss SL alot if LL closed up shop. It's not the money. I've made a little bit which was nice, but it's the environment and the people I'd miss the most. Where else can I be a blue dragon and build all sorts of weird and wonderful stuff? I suppose I'd drift over to Active Worlds for a while.

From: Oryx Tempel Sorry. I'm just grumpy today. Being grammar police isn't very nice. Forgive me? Awww it's ok. I went back and forth over that before hitting submit. Perhaps I should have consulted a dictionary! Hugs!

I know this is mostly a business aimed thread but in my case I would likely IM the friends I made here and ask if they would be willing to become RL E-mail or IM pen pals. Maybe drop my IM or Email to them anyway in case they found another SL like world they would like to become reacquainted in. Otherwise those that feel emails and IMs are "Too Real" will be missed greatly.

From: Malia Writer Hmmm, I don't see the option for "Curl up in a fetal position in a corner and shiver uncontrollably"... Yeah, that! And after the cold-turkey wears off, I might try to live an RL again... All the answers are soooo business-oriented! To me SL is a sink of money; not a source!

I'd buy lots of plywood with the money I saved and spend a lot of time looking for textures

There is always The Sims Online. I just don't have enough RL repetitive, tedious demoralizing tasks to do. I still have a house in Blazing Falls. I haven't been there in over a year. My cats are probably dead.

I would feel sorry for the disabled community if/when SL shuts it's doors. But who's song was that? Diana Ross? "I will survive"

I'm surprised "I'd roll over and go to sleep" was so popular. That's what I said. I've walked away for months before now. In some ways, I think I'd be relieved if it just went titsup. Crack is really difficult to give up unless somebody puts a bullet in your dealer's head.

If LL suddenly announced they were closing at the end of the year I'd . . .
. . . wonder who hacked LL's site and posted the announcement.

From: bucky Barkley I sure hope LL and SL succeeds. I fear it may take some drastic action from the Board of Directors.
I think many problems could be solved by replacing 3 key managers. i personaly think ginsu yoon (ginsu linden) can hit the road
