What would you do if Linden Lab announced that Second Life would be closing as of December 31, 2007? Many have become dependent on the income they receive from their SL businesses. If it closed, tomorrow, next week, or next month and you no longer had access to that additional (or primary) income, what would you do?
Would you protest to try to get LL to bring SL back up? Would you get a real job? Does your SL job coincide with a RL business where you could easily make the transition? Would you just roll over and go to sleep?
Discuss.

I would just move on, find something else to do and as for the income, I would find another way to handle that (maybe go back to selling stuff on ebay)
*shrug*
not much else one could do I vote pie

From: MadamG Zagato Many have become dependent on the income they receieve from their SL businesses. Many? Are you sure about that? Economic stats page shows that the vast majority makes virtually nothing and that only a few hundred make enough to be a primary source of income. The numbers show income _before_ LL charges (IE: tier) so I doubt there's very many at all that can actually live off SL.. What would I do if SL poofed? I'd be unhappy but continue on in RL..

It's not the income. I don't make a penny off SL...in fact, I give LL quite a few pennies.
But don't EVEN talk about taking away my SL fix. I start to shake at the very thought of it.

I wouldn't really roll over and go to sleep - that is just the closest choice to the way I feel. I would mourn its demise, use quite a lot of my very large vocabulary of anti-CS words, and watch for the next thing to come along that comes remotely close to providing the "metaverse" experience LL is striving to provide, and become the Apple Inc. of (can't bring myself to say "Microsoft" , or maybe the Google of.

I don't make any money in SL, I just spend it. So, where's the pie option?? ETA: I'd miss this world of ours though and would probably get quite mad at the monkeys for killing me.

What would I do if SL poofed? I'd be unhappy but continue on in RL.. Many....could mean 20 or 30. I was not speaking in percentages. I do not know what the exact number is but I know there are a good many. More than you might think. Many are reluctant to say so but they do exist. I was just making generalizations LOL. If you could point us all to the stats page that would be nice . My comment wasn't intended to be taken as fact an I apologize if it seemed that way. I was just trying to spark thought on the subject.

None of the choices apply to me, I don't come here to work so I'd just move on and find my entertainment elsewhere. I'd probably want to keep in contact with some of the people I've met here, and we've exchanged emails already so that would facilitate that.

Well, when you're talking about something with 50k people logged in at once right now, I'm not sure 20-30 can be considered 'many'. From: MadamG Zagato If you could point us all to the stats page that would be nice . Sure. It's just the normal one.. http://secondlife.com/whatis/economy_stats.phpLast month: - 157 people made over US$5k - 320 people made US$2k-US$5k - 473 people made US$1k-US$2k US$5k may sound like a ton but it's US$60k a year, assuming they pull it off every month, and it's before tier and such. Given the population of SL, I'll stick by my "it's not _that_ many" statement.

Your poll doesn't have any bearing on my life here. I'd cash out if I could. Then, I'd make sure the real valuables of SL, the people I care for and love, were contactable in another way.
Case closed. SL is not in the least about making money for me so in terms of your actual poll I'd have to say I couldn't care less, and that's absolutely not the case.

I sure hope LL and SL succeeds. I fear it may take some drastic action from the Board of Directors.
I think many problems could be solved by replacing 3 key managers.

That's nearly 1,000 people. Not many but no small number IMO. $1,000/mo may not sound like much but there's many people out there flipping burgers as a second job for less than that. To be able to earn that much with something most enjoy doing is a great thing.

I would miss SL greatly but I think I'd miss my financial a bit more. Years from that moment, I wouldn't be thinking of how much I miss the fun, but probably how much I miss the funds I invested.
