This is the age old where does art become erotica become porn (and I'd go one further on to "become distasteful";).

As a woman who has MANY female nudes by various artists in my rl home (no, not originals sadly), I've had some rather strange reactions. Needless to say, said people were not invited to see my home again - lol)

My husband sculpts as a hobby, nudes both male and female, small scale but from live models. They are gorgeous, and of every shape of human form, from perfect to imperfect. They are displayed in our living room, you can't help but see them as soon as you walk in the door.

Interestingly, we have never had a single person come into our home and be offended by them. They may comment and be a bit taken aback, since they are realistic, but all were won over by his talent, even his prudish mom.

The funniest thing was one of our little nieces who asked why they were all naked, wanted an anatomy lesson about the men's parts and then wanted to pat the butt of one of the ladies. We were glad to help educate her, but her mom nearly plotzed :D

There is a fine line between art, erotica and porn sometimes. My husbands art straddles somewhere between that art/erotica line. Thankfully, it seems, people are choosing to see it as art (or afraid to say what they really think!).

Wait a second... *leans closer to the screen and squints*
Those avs are a little on the "young" side! In fact, those pixels begin to resemble some creature that is under the age of consent for its real-life counterpart, if you squint and use a little imagination. I know what you're really up to! Do you have their proof-of-age papers? Is there something in their 1st life profiles that states they are over 18?
*gets irate* You're disgusting! You perv! AR! AR! AR!
If LL doesn't do something about this, I'm gonna call Bill O'Reilly on ___(fill in the date)___! .. and the Air Force!

SLMissWorld photogalleries are faced with arguments on whether to draw lines between Contestant photographs that could be perceived as either Art, Nudity or Porn

Contestants submit their pics here at~ SecondAvatar.com/photogallery

Moderators often delete pics that are inappropriate but the question is, do SL residents want them to be deleted? Should a fashion pageant allow nudity ?

Want to know more on your thoughts about SLMissWorld photogalleries....

Regards,
SecondAvatar.com/MastDeal

If you're creating a SL Miss World competition...then don't allow nudity. Do they allow nudity in the real world Miss. Etc.?

If you want to create a completely new pornographic version of Miss Etc, then that's different...

I just don't see why everything in SL has to be lowered to the pornographic level. No wonder we get a bad rap by the press. Someone wants to do a beauty pageant, and it immediately is discussed as to whether it should be pornographic and/or adult.

When I scoped the rules for the 2007 pageant I remember the photos in the galleries being judged on fashion, pose and general mood of the photographs. I was under the impression that SL MissWorld was a 'Fashion' Pageant. If the contestants aren't wearing any clothes/fashion at all then.........I dunno :/
(***btw it doesn't imply in the rules what exactly fashion entails, whether you have to have a combo of skin, hair, outfit and accessories. If one is wearing only skin and hair in thier photo, is it considered fashion??)

And I totally don't understand the voting system there at Second Avatar. Is SL MissWorld picked on the most votes or by actual judges who view the albums?

Anyway my album is crap. I really need to get someone to do me a portfolio or something :(

Yes! Just look at that newbie hair and skin! *shudder*

LOL that was my first thought.

To Mrs. Showdog Tiger et all; I fully agree! Beauty pageants should be clothed! More to the point, contestants should at the very least keep the same skin/shape/hair color. It's not fair to keep switching them around like a dern chameleon.

[Edit: OK how about the same skin with different makeups? Miss SL shouldn't wear multiple skins from multiple creators. It should be the same skin with different makeups to match the time of day.]

I have one more question: in real life, Miss 'Anything' is usually based not just on look, but also personality, accomplishments, desires, intelligence, charisma...

I keep seeing the word 'fashion'...fashion is a part of a pageant, but contestants aren't judged on their fashion choices, they are judged on what they look like (beauty), and who they are (personality).

Since when did Miss "Whatever" pageants become about fashion? Not only does Miss Universe have to show her 'beauty' in several different outfits, but she also has to talk...show the judges that she is intelligent, caring, and passionate about life. Will these SL pageants scrutinize their personalities as well?

 Diabolical, indeed, how they tricked us all into pulling incriminatingly pubescent pixels into our disk caches. (On the plus side, I hear the state pen does a first-rate Nutcracker.)

In SL, what's the difference between "body paint" and a texture worn on the undershirt (or any other) clothing layer? Meaningless question.

And Michael, you had better recheck your programming. Since when has a pageant been about personality? Despite what they claim?

/me lifts her chin, places hand on hip, and throws out chest to display her...uh, "personality" to better advantage.

I don't think people should be forced to look at this kind of thing:

It's disgusting!!

Please. This is SL you're talking about not a nun's convention.

Isn't sl suppose to imitate rl? Then what's the big deal? Nudity is regarded as art in many forms of artistical endeavors. These artist' should not even have to be asking if they should or not.

Some people act like nudity or anything close to it is something god-awful. It's something similar to the type of jealousy a beautiful woman gets from other women who aren't as fortunate in the looks dept. In sl the females who won't or can't enter these events because their looks don't match those of the gorgeous women involved for the most part are the ones against this type of thing to begin with.

Besides SL is for adults. It's not like we haven't seen it before. As far as the comments of "we shouldn't be forced to look at nudity," the answer to this then don't look, you're not being forced to and you're being warned it will be there on display.

Should the folks who aren't ashame of nudity and who enjoy looking at this 'art' be forced not to see it because of the prudes who don't want it? Isn't it the same thing but in reverse of they not wanting to be forced to watch it?

QFT - Quoting for Trout too :)

Seriously, the fact that those types of pictures are even being considered is a disgrace and does nothing to help SL's image at all. No wonder people can't take it seriously as a platform. Well, except for the adult content industry.

i think if done with taste nudity is art..
there is a thick line between porn and art..but if it is a fashion gallery and open to kids..well i think parents should be the judge on what they consider art until those kids grow up and develope thier own taste..otherwise it's just a pair of bewbies to them :P

look at the stories of the national geographics back in the fiftys and teenagers buying it for the bewbies hehehehehe..
this may be why they have an age 18 for alot of people to access..

Do i win?

Pardon? I have to do WHAT to a judge first??? Oh alright then.

Hell, a well dressed lady is usually more pleasing to the eye than most naked ones anyway.

One with some type of sexy lingere or very skimpy outfit does more times then one totally naked.

What people shouldn't be forced to look at are all those jaggies. Those two look like they're gonna saw each other in half, for goodness sake. For the love all that is decent and holy in the universe, give your poor porn stars some dignity and assign SL an anti-aliasing profile in your video card settings. :D
