What's with the tail & ears?

I know they have different types in sl. But what's with the cat tails and ears? I think it looks so ridiculous as they are and even more so when worn with regular clothes.

I saw a couple dancing at a formal event. He with a tux and she with a nice gown. They looked nice except they both had cat tails and ears. Is this suppose to be sexy? I've heard it's one reason for it being worn.

Someone told me they also use it in sex as a turn on. A turn on? Sex with animals is a turn on? I mean the involvement of animals and creatures mixed in with human sex in whatever capacity considered a turn on?

Why not wear the entire cat outfit instead of walking around with a tail on your ass and big animal ears. Everyone has their own taste but this looks really lame. If anything, complete animal makeovers look alot better then this and some even look cute and these I wouldn't touch either.

It's called "Neko" style. It's based on Japanese anime, where girls are drawn with cat features like tails and ears and stuff. It's not the same thing as "furry" where people have entire animal avatars. And it's not beastiality, etc. Get over yourself.

maybe some people just want to wear that sort of costume in Second Life, cuz it's fun. i wonder wut kind of dress-up you participate in. is your avatar real, or is it also make-believe?

Hugh Hefner made a fortune putting bunny ears and tails on women--granted taking the rest off helped. But whatever trips one's trigger--EVEN NON-SEXUALLY--not for me to judge much less always understand. (Provided no actual animals were harmed in the etc,. etc.)

Considering the number of catgirl costumes I've seen at Halloween (SL *and* RL), Catwoman in Batman, and numerous other occurences of this style, its not exactly considered weird to find this sexy. But like you say, it takes all sorts, so if it don't float your boat, just stay away.

Well I am one of those Nekos that look 'rediculous' and 'lame' according to you. Surely it's a matter of personal taste? People are neko's to look sexy and a turn on? I don't indulge in SL sex. There are plenty of avs in SL I wouldn't want, but I was brought up polite to keep my views to myself

As Oryx said, it comes from Japanese popular culture and even has historical roots, but I'm certain with your kind of attitude you couldn't be bothered to read up on it anyway. And no, it's not for "sexy" reasons- why does EVERYBODY always assume that EVERYTHING is about sex in SL??? There might be nekos who use it as a turn on, just as there are furries yiffing. So? Does that mean everybody who happens to be partly non-human in SL is a nymphomaniac? If you don't like the look of it, well, that's your opinion. But telling everyone that your opinion is the right and true one? You didn't say, okay, to you it looks "lame" (why, I wonder? what is "lame" anyway?), you said that it looks lame in general. What does your avatar look like? If it's one of those unnaturally tanned, muscular, narrow-hipped and broad-shouldered guys it would be my turn to say "no, thanks". But I wouldn't wander up and tell you "Hey,that look is LAME, man-are your into necromancy, or why the mutant roast person look? I'm sure you do that because it's good for sex."

I gotta admit that I found the Cat/Nekko thing odd when I first got here, I'm a dog person, but who cares what someone else wants to be here.? Doesn't bother me.

I will admit I have seen some "Lame" and "Ridiculous" Nekos out there, but in their defense I have seem some pretty "Lame" and "Ridiculous" Human avatars out there, as well as an other type you can think of. Yes, Nekos are a Japanese thing, personally I look at them the same as any other avatar. There some with good fashion sense that look cute or even sexy, and others that are indeed lame and ridiculous, its just a matter of some people being able to pull off an avatar style well and others can't. Maybe the two you encounter were of the "Can't" category, who knows.

Even that's relative. Human, Neko, crayfish, robot, whatever...if they like their look, it really doesn't matter if anyone else thinks it's 'lame.'
