Apparently you lack the capacity to appreciate the irony and the hypocrisy that Deanna was pointing out. Let's draw a diagram for you in the metaphorical sense. Take Ciera's statement:

In one post she faults other people for doing exactly what she does with great zeal in her other post. Get it now?

We can agree or disagree. I shant hold it against ye. I can whine & bitch, but in the end... its all good.

I had a weird dream tho- where someone was more omnipotent than a Linden, able to steal names & accounts. Even able to over ride ANY Linden ability. It was 'frightening' to say the least.

I think most of us noticed that as well. Seems someone maybe, might have, went inworld and begged a bunch of friends to come post in their defense.. maybe.. and the friends, not realizing what they were stepping into the middle of just jumped in like noobs and started posting "you go girl" and "yeah baby yeah" behind every post their friend made or seemed to support their friend without actually taking the time to learn the posting history of their friend.

Thus leading to the,,,, "wow, you guys are kind of scary oblivious to stuff" that most of us react to their posts with.

Either that or someone is wearing out their alt supply really fast.

This has to be the first time where someone has taken it upon themselves to start having people send me nasty IMs inside of SL, and snoop around on my land...

We've all had forum disagreements before, but this is just weird...
- Most of the time, after a round of yelling on the forums, we're all back to cordial and business as usual. And it never 'bleeds' into SL itself.


And it seems to have started with a post that had nothing to do with anyone around here at all - but about avatar shapes and anatomy issues. In fact it begins with person on a normal height AV, three threads ago, complaining about getting the 'child AV accusation' tossed at them. But that gets sorted out right quick and things got productive. Then somebody comes in and plays victim in a 'reverse discrimination' manner... gets called on it... and now this.

Mute, AR, Ban. Not the most eloquent of solutions but it's what we have as tools.

Course, the funny thing would be, if you AR a several of them and it turns out they are all one person's alt and it leads to a permaban for that person.

Oh... I took it as an ironic comment, with the two posters trying to establish a running gag based on the Jerry Springer reference, yelling stuff like members of that chap's audience every time the OP says anything, so as to send her up.

Well I'm with you about not striking out at others, but then you do the same thing in each one of these posts, so that's confusing. For instance your first post where you said something similar about most of us can't imagine your life and women hate you. It can sound conceited. That is probably what got people going at first.

Without the line "most of you have poor lives" this almost sounds like a sincere post - but that line totally ruins it. Don't do what you don't want others to do to you, I'd think.

He was a frequent troll poster over on another forum that has since closed. He's a weaselly little creature that used many alts for trolling until he came up with gold by making the most offensive, disgusting, artificial frankentroll he could create. His mo was to make nasty, rude statements and then alt up for attacks.

This won't end well.....

Ee, this is the part where you go get a bag of cookies or something, your favorite beverage and just come watch the traincrash. Hours of fun will ensue.

Just a lot of infighting and bickering going on in the forums lately, Pocket, and few haven't been splattered one way or another. Including people joining the forums and the same DAY making a beeline for certain posters, then crying "paranoid" when the obvious charge of troll or alt is made.

Frankly the forum lockdown can't come fast enough in my opinion.

This is really off topic, so I apologise in advance.

It's simply that this is the second post today which dredges up the crass old epithets of "Troll" and "Alt".

1. Firstly my understanding of a Troll within the context of a message board is someone who who goes out of their way, through a variety of means, to gain pleasure at another's expense.

My understanding is that simply voicing an alternative opinion (if done politely and without recourse to personal insult) does not qualify anyone as a "Troll".

2. The whole Alt business.

In a comunity which fights aggressively for the right to anonymity and the ability to "be who you want to be", I'm not sure why Alt is used so pejoratively.

Secondly, it seems to me that the vast majority of people in SL have multiple accounts. Calling someone an "Alt" therefore seems a little like teenage boys using various vernacular terms for "masturbator" as insult.

Oh an before you start jumping up and down, it doesn't take a Sherlock Holmes to look at my profile and see that yes I'm "new" but horror of horrors I know how to post on a message board and have my own opinion.

But if you did even more detective work you'd find that I explain my apparently inexplicable sopistication for a "newb" in one of my first posts.

As for the OP, she's entitled to her opinions. I don't agree with any of them but that isn't influenced at all by her proclivity for unfeasibly large virtual breasts.

I think in this case it would be because of possible alts, maybe being used as sock puppets, jumping into a debate in which one person has gone completely defensive when their current posts are held up in light of past statements made in the forum. Then inexplicably we are supposed to believe suddenly the board is filled with like minded individuals whose only additions to the discussion are "I agree with so-in-so" ... "so-in-so is great the rest of you suck". In-world, sure someone go have alts, enjoy them, use them to be super naughty or super nice.. just if they get dragged into the forums as 'friends', people shouldn't be shocked when they are called out.

Not saying that is exactly what happened, could also be that someone lured some gullible friends in world .. where, by the way that someone might be a supergreat wonderful person... to fight their battle, without these friends having a clue of the individual's history in the boards.

Or something else entirely different. Maybe alien pod people are overrunning SL and have started randomly posting in the forums, picking one avatar to be their "friend" and attacking all those who oppose.

I agree. I think there is some definite paranoia at times in forums, and people throwing terms around. I've seen the reference to alts being used towards me just for posting my opinion the other day. Apparently because I had an opinion opposed to someone they assumed I was the alt of someone else.

I think the main thing to take into consideration is that people come and go in a forum regularly. There will inevitably be new people who choose to post. Seems to me in a forum community when new people arrive its like some of the old members jockey for position. It seems some may be insecure perhaps? I don't know how to explain really how I view it. I guess it seems like the old members feel they need to adjust their position or make their presence or "authority" known because they've been here longer.

I don't know if that makes sense but thats what I sometimes see. From my personal perspective anyway. My whole view of the dynamics of how a new member is treated is based on my own personal experience after decided to start posting in these forums just recently. I'm sure there are a lot of nice people in these forums willing to discuss things and listen to other opinions. I happen to know there are others who will just plain jump and use the alt term, and seem to attack in a manner that seems to be a passive agressive way of starting an argument. To me its quite petty, and is pretty transparent but overall this is a forum. It happens I suppose.

I don't personally mind it. I've been in enough forums to know that once a person shows their character they generally don't ever change it. I continue to write my opinions in the same manner I always do. I like to share my opinion on topics whether they aren't shared by others or not. I believe thats what a forum is for.

I know what you're saying, it just seems a bit of a poor debating position .. "Oh no, there are 10 people here all agreeing to disagree with me.. damn those alts!"

If your motivation is to articulate a view then fine, the number of nay sayers shouldn't matter, you'd have your say.

If your motivation is to change minds, then the quality of your argument doesn't get diluted by the number of opponents effectively espousing the same contrary position.

After all isn't that how parliaments work? I watched Barack Obama give his health care speech earlier and I'm guessing there are a lot of opponents possibly with vested interests and possibly with an organised opposing position who he has to deal with.

I'm not sure we'd have a lot of respect for him if he just stood at the podium, screamed "ALTS" and walked off!

If your argument is good enough, then the fact that there are a lot of alts around is a gift in this scenario, you change one mind.. you get 10 new supporters.
