On the eve of the Second Life 5th Birthday Bash I've suddenly become very community spirited and figured I'd ask all those questions you were afraid to ask. (Actually if I'm honest I don't read the blog or in fact any of those announcements which pop up as you're logging in..I just log in and sail/shop/build..so in truth..I know nothing, which is why I'm asking on your behalf) Where is it...as far as I can make out it's on some island somewhere that we can't get to yet...but I'm aware of all those fringe things..which I suspect will be a lot more interesting..where are they going to be happening..please list/tell When..well kick off is apparently tomorrow at 10 am Pacific Time (that's 6 pm in real time - sorry Greenwich Mean Time )..or have I got that one totally wrong. If you're one of those fringe event organisers, you could let us know here.. What is it..now there's a very good question Astrid (who will probably be there, if only she knew when, where and why..)

I looked up SL5B on the map and there is a whole set of SL5B sims with SL-inspired names like 'Prim' etc. I tried to TP there yesterday but they were closed - not surprising, I suppose as the event hadn't begun!

From: Astrid Schwade Thank u Mari..just the sort of announcement I had in mind... You're welcome! It's a great great event. Definitely glad to be a part of it. From: Macphisto Angelus I am really looking forward to this.
I hope nobody gets freaked out by a vampire.. I promise to eat before hand! I've known vampire kids, so I know I'd be okay. 'side, the other day some creepy avvie -- all green skinned with an eyeball hanging out of a socket, an named after a RL serial killer -- told me an my sister that we were scary. So I'm positive I can freak people out right back. Mari

If he meant that as a joke, commenting on the "child avatars are creepy" line, it's pretty funny. If he *didn't* mean it as a joke... it's still pretty funny, though in a rather more tragicomic way.

I applaud the op's lazyness. What I would like is for somone to visit every exhibition and then come back and paste SLURL's to the best stuff after siphoning out the crap. Would also be handy if speeches could be translated, - bullshit removed, and pasted in the forum in a handy bullet pointed summary (without personal commentary). Also a brief daily summary of events and things of interest would be handy. Maybe all us busy/lazy people could get a collection of L$ together to pay some unemplyed bored resident to carry out the above requests.

One annoying thing is that not all of the servers that provide the SL in-world Map have been updated yet for the new SL5B Builds. Some show all the new stuff, and some show the sims as 98% empty. Which map you see depends apparently on which login server you happen to connect to.
Has the map updated for the Kids5B area yet? I forgot to check that.

Philip's Speach

Does anyone know where we can watch Philip's speach? It seems as if they want a controlled event, without the sl "riffraff" there.

From: Astrid Schwade Actually I was hoping for more 'fringe' style info.. who's doing what when and where.. Sadly, there is nothing. I told those that were online in the SL5B Exhibitor's group to post their own events and place information in the SPECIAL ATTARCTIONS thread of this forum, but there was no marketing plan in place to advertise each exhibitor - even though they planned this for a year. I had asked for a telehub on Dwell where each exhibitor could place a notecard giver with presentation schedules and teleporters to our parcels. Denied. Someone in the group suggested the appeal of a festival like this is to wander around and 'discover' things. I replied that this is not a Easter egg hunt. Time was taken to publicize the keynote adresses and one publicity friendly round table. It is quite shameful that the service provider asked us to erect these PG displays and did not feel obligated to ask all exhibitors for their event schedules so things could be coordinated. I handed in and published my event schedule several days ago. I have no idea what or when my neighbors will be having their presentations. On the sim I am exhibiting on there is a Jazz Club with a live DJ, a Native American performance area, a author conducting book signings and a Pirate ship - all of which have events planned. I forsee a overlap of events and overcrowding because of a lack of communication. All of which could have been avoided with a little coordination. .

Am I missing something obvious here? Less than 10 minutes to go and all the SL5B sims seem to be locked down - I "don't have access" to TP there..

Missing SOmething

They do not want us there, this is some kind of publicity stunt to praise the virtues of second life without the reality.
