Is This Reasonable?

So, a few minutes ago, I wandered into a shop to browse and the proprietor promptly ejected me. I IM'd her to ask what I'd done wrong and her explanation was that since I was in Busy mode, she had no choice. Apparently she'd had people attempt to make purchases in Busy mode, which I myself know perfectly well doesn't work, and they ending up causing headaches for her. Since she couldn't talk to me while I was 'Busy,' she chose to eject. She invited me back, albeit not altogether gracefully, which I declined, being rather irritated that she presumed to judge me based on other people's behavior. We exchanged a few less than friendly words, since she felt justified in her actions and I believed she overreacted, which ended with her mocking something on my profile, accusing me of being immature (in part, I think, because I was answering her from offline emails at that point and she seemed to think I was logging in and out of SL every time), and then banning and muting me.

I do know that it's her land, and therefore her choice, but I'm feeling a little shell shocked at how quickly things escalated. At no time did I call her any names or, I feel, become rude; I simply reiterated the point that I didn't believe I'd done anything wrong and didn't like being held accountable for other people's actions.

So, was I unreasonable?

No I think that was way extreme. Even if you bought something in busy mode she could have seen the transaction and sent it to you again when you noticed it. Big deal, would have taken them a while 30 seconds.

Oh, she also said that I hadn't shown her any respect. I was civil, but I tend to think respect is earned and, well...

OK, I feel a little better. I honestly didn't think I'd done anything wrong, but it's comforting to know that other people agree with me. Thanks! :)

I guess we all have our off days, though...maybe I just caught her at a bad time.

Uhm I just tested this. If she stands next to you, she can chat and IM you and you will see her message. She will get the busy mode message when she IMs you but you will receive it instantly. Unless she never tried or you were ignoring her...

The busy mode thing has had an effect on me, too. Getting IMs with threats of lawsuits isn't very fun. (Well, ok, that one was a little funny. ;) )

But my reaction was to make my vendors check to see if the person was in busy mode, and if they were, to give their money back and make a sound of synthesized speech, telling them they are in busy mode so nothing could be delivered.

Seems a softer approach than ejecting folks, que no? =^.^=

She never said a word to me until I IM'd her to ask why I'd been ejected. I thought I remembered getting an alert-type message when someone IM'd me while I was in Busy mode, but I don't use it that often so I wasn't sure. I only had it on to discourage some people who had been bothering me at the last place I'd been anyway. *sigh*

You know what's kind of strange? After I posted this, I was looking around the forums and discovered that the shop owner in question sometimes comes here too. Her posts are almost unfailingly polite, helpful, and well thought out, so now I'm even more confused as to what I possibly could have done to antagonize her so much. I didn't log the conversation, but I do have the offlines and I'm just not seeing it.

That doesn't work.. part of our business is selling media systems... we have a HUGE sign directly over the goods stating conditions of sale.. 99% of the IM's I get starting 'bought your stuff and it doesn't work'.. I reply 'Did you read the instructions, available within every component of the items purchased, in the NC givers placed all over the shop floor, or the LARGE SIGN right over the goods, etc?'.... reply is usually 'Instructions, sign?'

We have the instructions in 6 different languages in a step by step guide format.

I check the transaction reports to see what equipment was purchased by whom and IM anyone who missed buying an item that is required (like a screen), not because I want them to buy more items than needed, but to hopefully prevent IM's later. Some never respond, so I assume they are happy wasting money, or are impulse buyers that just like to have pretty prims strewn about their sl home.. or that they are probably happier bitching about our company to friends about how our equipment is a scam.

Our support history is second to none... but it can be very frustrating and time consuming at times.

Its under Tools... but it's not sticky, only appears there for about one week every month.

Well, THAT'S not very realistic. I reserve the right to be bitchy and time, any place, for any reason...or none. :p

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

and I demand the right for Ann Launay to be in bitchy mode any time, any place, anywhere for any reason .. or not.
Is that reasonable too? ;)

If you have a male avatar it's called Jackass Mode and unlike Bitchy Mode, it's permanent and can't be removed.

Well, you can try to turn it off, but yeah it keeps coming back on. If it is really laggy I've had is stay off for almost a second. Unfortunately, I can't type much in one second except "I'm sorry" and then I'm stuck in Jackass Mode again...

I just quit trying. Once you lose the will to change, there's no pressure to be anyone but yourself. It's very liberating. I highly recommend it to everyone.

BTW - am I the only one here who thinks your avatar looks just like Montel Williams?

...and a Red Green fan! I knew I liked you. If the women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy.

/me wonders if we've found a test for gender....

What does "Quando Omni Flunkus Moritati" mean and for what organization is it the motto?

(Well, it would work at least as well as the age verification method.....)

Now, where *did* I put that duct tape?
