As far as I know this is the first comment from a Linden conclusively indicating the forums are to be shut down and replaced.

Well, it's sad and all but I'm not sure it isn't for the best. This forum software sucks and apparently they're not interested in updating it for free, they'd rather pay some consultancy tons of money to build something else.

it's definitely for the best as far as LL is concerned. or the community...i think it will be a great loss. I took a look at that new place, I don't like it, and do not plan on returning to it.

What makes you think the forum is being shut down? They're going to move it to new software, I'm sure it will be different but they aren't saying it's being closed. Whether resident answers survives is another issue.

OK, sure so I'm being melodramatic. But /this/ forum is to be closed, every thread frozen and a new forum with radically new software started. So that's what I really mean.

Well there were concerns that Resident answers was on its way out as soon as Linden answers was originally mentioned, Blue posted that the forums wouldn't be replaced by Linden answers.

The old forum posts are still here from previously closed areas, so they'll do the same. I wouldn't be surprised if the new setup is rather different in terms of subject areas.

They're not "moving it" any more than replacing Second Life with Lively would be "moving it".

The blog software is a fundamentally different environment. It's not similar to the forums.

The software is just to allow functionality. Old blog posts have been archived on the new blog platform.

My thoughts as well. This forum is a heck of a lot easier (for me) to navigate and read. I really, really don't like the look of the new blog.

I don't care where they are housed or what they look like if we can have simular functionality. My concern is that they will not let us have the conversations we have here.

I think Linden does not like when a vocal and knowledgable group can easily reach each other and debate LLs actions and policies. Somehow I can't believe they will let conversations like the Ignore thread to happen wherever they move.

I also don't think they like the prospect a lot of their customers know their product better than they do.

Yep. The new one looks like it was drawn with a crayon. And not drawn well. Much lower usability than this one.

There are enough independent forums and blogs all over, free of LL's influence and censoring. If they think thats the way into the future, be it so. Another nail in their own coffin. If that's you worry about, no, there is no light inside the container :).

Me suspects that it is not so much that there are vocal residents as much as LL is going for a public image that will include assurances that the forums are really moderated, and that all postings are rated G.

The new forum probably serves as a test to discover how well the "bad" language filter works, and the cost of staffing moderators.

Think disneyfication!

This was discussed in an earlier thread, and a suggestion made for an adult only forum. It'll never happen.

This has been a long time coming. Do you think they even read Resident Answers?

They're just sick of moderating it or not as the case may be.

You can always count on Linden Lab to do the wrong thing, everytime, when it comes to forums and community discussions.

Haha!

Actually, it's heartwarming to see that people can snipe at each other on the new site too.

I love my last name. Only 1 other active resident has it and I love her (in a totally platonic way ;) ), so it's all good. :)

I'm not talking about he old blog, I'm talking about the forums. They are not being moved, the archived posts will not appear on the blog, and the blog doesn't provide similar functionality to the forums.
