I have submitted a ticket on the following but just wanted to warn others what was going on.
A friend of mine sent me a message that she received the following from me. However, I DID NOT SEND THIS MESSAGE! It appears in her IM with my name ONLY as tho I sent it! Has this happened to anyone else? I REALLY wish that there was TOS against STUPID people! However that would do away with MOST if not ALL alts! I firmly believe with all the fraud, ripping, copy bots and such that all should only be allowed ONE account to get RID of this sort of stupidity! This is the following message that was sent to my friend:
Dear firend: Heya, how are you doing recently ? I would like to introduce you a very good company which i knew. They can offer you all kinds of electronical products which you need, such as laptops, mobile phones, digial cameras, TV LCD, xbox, ps3, gps, MP3/4, etc. Please take some time to have a look at it,there must be something you'd like to purchase. Their website: store-good.com Their Email/MSN: storegood@188.com Hope you have a good mood in shopping from their company! Best Regards!
AGAIN, I NEVER sent that message to my friend and have no clue what MORON did and I would bet MONEY that who ever sent that is an ALT!

It's probably from a scripted object. I can't think of another way it could appear to have come from you. Check your attachments as it could be something you are wearing.
The message looks remarkably similar to something that spammed my entire Hotmail contact list with a message appearing to come from my email a few months back.
Most alts are benign.

Unless it was in an IM tab where that IM tab had your name on it, it's most likely as mentioned above. If it was in an IM tab with your name on it, we need to know, because there's a serious issue to solve.

Once you calm down, will you realise that this is misplaced anger?

If this message showed up in your friend's actual IM window as an actual private conversation invoked in your name, then this would be very scary indeed. But, seriously - what do alts have to do with it?

My name is on most everything I make or build so it wouldn't be hard to find my name. What erks me and what I have said from the DAY I started on SL is that there are alot of people that do stuff on SL that in RL would get the crap knocked out of them! lol

But, seriously - what do alts have to do with it? Because I don't think someone using their REAL account would take the chance of getting AR'D or banned. Alot of griefers, rippers, thieves & spies use ALT accounts because they don't want others to know who they are.... simple.

From: Maxum Kingmaker D0reese Dufaux is close enough. True, but making an alt to specifically spoof someone's name seems like an extraordinary amount of effort to go through just to spam people with off-world sales advertising. My bet is on this being script-based.

My bet is on this being script-based. Maxum Kingmaker is an alt account... my point exactly and that person HAS been banned from our sims. Also trust me... I will be checking the copies of MY name and reporting them all because at this point ANY one copying my name that closely or others for that matter are only doing so to be stupid and/or cause trouble for the original name.

True enough; but banning alts entirely seems rather extreme, when lesser options are available, such as requiring accounts - alts, main, it doesn't matter - to be account-verified with real, verifiable information.

Doesn't really matter what you think because none of use know who is TRUELY behind an avie or their RL intentions are. The whole point of my starting this thread was to warn others and LL as to what is going on so hopefully something will be done about it. If that stuck a nerve in Maxum Kingmaker then so be it but a TRUE noob RARELY logs into forums in the beginning. Just my observation after the time I have spent in world.

Doreese, did this message show up in your friend's IM window or just on your friend's screen? The answer does make a difference, because if it just showed up on your friend's screen, it's a griefer trick, done by script, that's nothing to do with hacked accounts.

While I have sympathy for your problem which sounds like a script, you cannot label all alts the same. I am an alt, happy to admit it. I made this account to escape my business and roleplay. I now build with this account also. Guess what, I have another alt to hide on with my partner when want to be totally alone.
Why can't people have accounts for different things? doesn't mean everyone with an alt is a griefer, or would guess about 99% of SL would be.

It isn't clear what's going on yet.

Unfortunately, you can report all you want. Best I can tell, there is no proof than anyone with a similar name is doing an ARable offense and just being stupid is not against the TOS

I found these forums and created my initial account and lurked here for a bit before I ever logged in to SL -- and I know quite a few others that did it that way also.
