From: Mickey Vandeverre I would say that makes you a true manly man, Soji! Thanks for the pic. Hmmm. A REAL "manly man" isn't afraid to say "OUCH!!! This sweater hurts!" Get in touch with your feelings about this, Soji, and don't be afraid to talk about them. A modern "manly man" is brave enough to share.

From: Mickey Vandeverre He decided that he will get his second date outfit at Artilleri. A little retro and wacky....he wanted to be a bit conservative for his first meeting with Scylla. These outfits will be good for later on, to bring out his fun side. Does the "conservative" part come before or after he whips out his equipment for a walk on the nude beach? Are we going to have an official photographer? And maybe get asked questions afterwards in separate soundproof booths by a whackily funny Emcee who will find out for audience members how it all went, and whether we should be sent out on a second date? And what share of the advertising revenue do we get? I'm quite willing to list who I am wearing (or, as the case may be, not wearing) for a small fee . . .

He is putting a lot of thought and effort into this. It's hard being a guy. So many expectations. I haven't discussed this in detail with him....he's vulnerable now, and don't want to upset him. Fragile. Let him get his footing. He did contemplate a few pics, so he could show these helpful people that they made a manly man out him.....but I'm not sure he wants to disclose his identity....in case the whole scenario doesn't work out, and there is an ugly forum thread with drama.....

Oh, I think I like him all the better for his vulnerability, Mickey. Let him know that I am here to help facilitate his "coming out," and certainly not to "judge" him. As for any potential future drama . . . well, rest assured it won't be coming from ME. I never strip and tell . . .

A modern "manly man" is brave enough to share. I've been wandering around as a cute woman recently. I will have to wait until I'm manly again so I can respond. I think. Though I'm likely to revert to raccon. I've, by this point, spent most of my time as a raccoon in world. Though "most of the time" probably corresponds with about 15% of my time in SL. I do believe, though, that we have different definitions of "manly man". A manly man cuts himself shaving, grunts, slaps water on himself, grunts again, then moves on with his live. A "modern 'manly man'", one of those '90s "ooh, love me, I'm in touch with my feelings" type, would cut themselves, and spend hours talking about it with everyone they walk into. Ooh, I cut myself, I'm bleeding, stop the bleeding! I'm dying!

From: Vance Adder 1) They have brush cut hair (or shaved heads - which is ugly). Mmmm, I shave my head short myself... 2) They tend to want sons - who will be hockey players and never dancers. I don't like hockey. 3) They think girls look "cool" on a soccer pitch. "soccer pitch"? 4) They never go to art galleries. I do 5) They never go shopping on their own. I do 6)Their only concession to parenthood is carrying their son in a huggly thing round their neck. not applicable 7) They prefer blondes. I prefer dark hair They prefer blondes who are similar to their own mothers. eww 9) They have rather unimaginative jobs. nope 10) They happily admit to ignorance of topics. I'll admit when I don't know things. I think it demonstrates a level of sincerity and a readiness to learn. 11) They never express feelings. I do 12) They think "vulnerable" is weakness The word "vulnerable" certainly seems to have negative connotations to me. Seems like a matter of semantics though. 13) They wear below-the-knee baggy shorts that make them look gumphy. I don't think I own anything like that... 14) They play golf with "the boys". I hate golf 15) They never listen to rap or Lady Gaga unless it's at a dance at a wedding and is the dance they can act idiotically in. I'm not a big fan of rap, but Lady Gaga is decent. I tend toward more obscure interests though. 16) They always have a younger brother and an older sister (who has one and a half babies). I only have a younger brother and he has no kids. 17) They dream of owning a Harley. I think Harleys are crude. I'd rather own a nice Honda. 1 They dream of owning a ski-doo. That'd be awesome! Jetskiing is fun. 19) They drive a beefy truck which is spotless. I drive a white 4-door cavalier.... 20) They think churches are only for weddings. I'm an atheist... 21) They laugh behind the back of their teachers. I'm not in school... 22) They think anyone they dont understand is a "friggin' freak" I don't really understand this comment (*mutters* freak....) 23) They are inveterate liars. Am not. *cough* 24) They eat lasagna. LOVE lasagna! 25) They've cut out pizza. huh? 26) They will get a gut at 45. Already have one... Hehe... I know you were just messing around, but I thought it'd be fun to answer. I wonder if that makes me a manly man or not. We need a scoring system! We're men / We're men in tights / We roam around the forest looking for fights / We're men / We're men in tights / We rob from the rich and give to the poor / That's right! / We may look like sissies / But watch what you say / Or else we'll put out your lights / We're men / We're men in tights / Always on guard / Defending the people's rights / We're men / Manly men! / We're men in tights / Yes! / We roam around the forest looking for fights / We're men / We're men in tights / We rob from the rich and give to the poor / That's right! / We may look like pansies / But don't get us wrong / Or else we'll put out your lights / We're men / We're men in tights / *Tight tights* / Always on guard / Defending the people's rights / When you're in a fix / Just call for the men in tights / We're butch!

A manly man cuts himself shaving, slaps a patch of toilet paper on it until it clots, then forgets about it until he arrives at work and someone makes a joke about it. He laughs with them.

From: Mickey Vandeverre You don't strip and tell??? But you posted a pic here! Women! Sure, but just of ME. And a very modest pic it was, too . . . Now, should your manly man decide that he has the courage to do something similar . . . to expose his vulnerability and sensitivities to the scrutiny of the community . . . I'd be entirely supportive of that. But I do understand that men in our culture, despite the great strides we have made in this direction, remain socialized to be embarrassed about such things. So I'm more than willing to help him along slowly, feeling his way, and nurturing those nascent sensitivities. It's not just about the locker room anymore Mickey. Men have been liberated too!

It's about communication, about sharing. And it's certainly not about bottling up the pain and the hurt, and probably sublimating it in some potentially violent and antisocial way. If it hurts, tell me. I want to know. And I want to help. Really.

That was a funny film. I don't recall the song ending "We're butch", but still, a funny slight film. That is one of the two films I liked Cary Elwes in. It is too bad that more or less immediately after that he tried to do drama with some film about a young thing coming on to him and then getting all pyscho on him. Instead of finding more humorous roles to play.
