So I actually won one of these -- a bigger one than I had originally planned on. And for my original max price. This is good, even if I have to wait for expansion in order to have a proper road access.

Gratz, Mari!! I'm so happy for you and looking forward to seeing your build on it :)

Right now, kinda as I hinted at before, it is set up like a construction site with survey stakes, a foreman's trailer, and so on. I'm in the midst of Rail Rally (did anyone from the forums go? You should!) and HardKnock Elementary's annual graduation, as well as all the SL5B stuff, and haven't yet had the time to really go to town. So to speak :-)

Yay - I got a parcel last night too (actually got two). I bid on two of the ones closing at the same time, thinking I'd be lucky if I got one, and actually got them both. I'm glad LL is making a lot of auctions end at the same time. It really helps keep the price a bit closer to reasonable.

Congratulations to everyone here who was successful and who is not a land flipper. However, Marianne, as you noted, one baron always gets in and then you see just what you wrote here, one name as owner to many of the parcels, and soon the possbility of the land flipper's curse, crappy builds and crazy for sale signs all over the place. My hope is that your land baron turns out to be a more sensible one, but I won't take my own word on that ;)

Yes, but...

Did Misses Gynoid win last night?

Heh, sorry, this is the first time I've been back to the thread since my last message in it. I know have four parcels, both on the edge of one of the Linden sims - the ones that have no plots for sale on it (though the beach sim might be an older sim that already existed; the other one is the insane asylum sim). The first two took forever to process (it seemed at the time) and might have been . . . maybe four hours before they took my money and transfered the land. The second two parcels seemed to transfer immediately, though I only have the money to go by as I can't get in world yet (took the money immediately after auction ended).

My dream parcel also was lost by me. :( (the nice little one directly adjacent to the archaeological dig site). 202k for that one. Then again, I also lost a slightly larger one, 1040m, by 10L. And that one sold for 26,010. My the prices are all over the place. :) I've noticed most 1024's seem to be priced starting at 100K when the resellers get in world and set them for sale (though the one immediately adjacent to my Handa propertly was set at 252K, a 100K profit). A reason I tried for that 1040, though still lost it to someone paying "only" 26010 (I set my bid up to be 25L per sqm).

I am soo jealous and way too cheap to follow you into Bay City, however if the prices keep coming down.... I am keeping an eye out and I'll jump if there is anything left.

I wonder if, in the sim that first was auctioned, one person is trying to buy up most of the land. Many plots seem to have the same owner now, and most seem to have out-of-theme (even wildly so) builds on them. No sure what the "angle" is.

Mari

This may or may not have already been answered in the 2 days since . . but . . heh. The person that bought a lot of Docklands has also bought a lot of parcels throughout the rest of Bay City. Then there is the Java City buyer (think different buyer), who seems to have a Java City store in each Sim now (maybe there are only 3 or 4 or them, but seeing the same name over and over makes it seem that way :)).

And I don't think of the Japanese plot as out of theme so long as I picture it as a Japanese embassy or the like.

Congrats! Are any of them in Imaginario, by chance? That's where I scored on some land. Not cheap, but not crazy. Actually within my original top bid for what was a smaller parcel.

I know a couple people considered that their "dream parcel," so I guess the interest doesn't surprise me.

I noticed dat. They also seem to be focusing strongly on land alongside Route 66, too. For the amount of money they're dropping, they must have some plan in mind, no?

Perhaps -- though it is still out of era. Then again, their neighbor has a perpetual thunderstorm.

Mari
(Who is glad to have a neighbor with a build at least somewhat within theme!)

Thanks. 2 in Handa, 2 in Moosehead.

Oh, I assumed that parcel was a "dream parcel" of many. :)

Heh, so are you saying that a Japanese embassy would be something that couldn't exist in 1950s-1960s?

I haven't been able to get in world yet, so the Moosehead still follows the "empty greenish plot" theme so many have. The Handa plots have a forest planted on it.

No, just that it looks to be from the wrong era for a Japanese embassy from the 1930-1960s.

I've learn another lesson today at bay city, and the lesson is: never never NEVER try to help ppl (and it would be more stupid if it's for free) because you gonna face all the strange aspect of a working (supposed) human brain.

I'm (WERE at this point) giving out building for free (original made... not prefabs, but custom) to ppl, why? Because i wanted to preserve the theme.. these buildings aren't so damn good, but yeah im doing it for free, and they are better than a "ugly box". So someone called me to place one in a spot, i immediatly noticed the neighborns that would be pissed off because of their particular building shape (accessible by the front and from the sides.... whenever the sides aren't actually "protected";), so i've suggested both parties to find an accomodation, ie: don't put the new building it too much in the front so the other land owner may have a partial side open... and don't put it too much in the back so the new owner will not loose too much land in the front.

Guess the result? I've ended as the "bad guy" trying to ruin their project when i were doing exact the opposite. Now i'm not sure if my english suks so much so ppl doesn't understand what im saying/doing.... but what's clear to me is: think about your damn job and don't care about the rest, since you gonna loose time, money and your face trying to help.

I took a look around Imaginario the other day. Wow! Lots of changes since I was last there.

Saw your construction site, Mari...love it!!! Especially like the little stakes with the ribbons on them. Very realistic :) That's a great location too. The build on the plot next to yours starting to look nice too.

I thought that Japanese temple looks out of era as well. We walked inside and there was some kind of chanting playing.

Yep...we got caught in the thunderstorm emanating from the Greco-Roman house plot. That's the one owned by the guy who is on the white list of my neighbor with the security orb that is now silenced (yeaaa!!). Same helicopter on the roof as my neighbor's as well...lol.

Ok, is it just me, or is there a strip of stores there that look like an Old West theme???? Nice storefronts just again, kinda out of the 30's-50's urban look.

Then there's the "Free Bay City Souvenir" on the dock site next to the Japanese build - a toilet with Euros for toilet paper. I'm assuming some type of social commentary?

Ya. I talk with my neighbor there as we work (well, he works, really. I'm doing the real building off-site). He seems a nice guy.

I'm doing the build on ground level slowly, trying to make it grow over time. I figured that dressing it as a construction site, and adding to it over time would be a nice touch. 'sides, thinking of the "Bay City and RP Groups" thread, why not all a level of quasi realism like that?

The foundation slab was poured yesterday, the electrical junction boxes are in, and the first wall has been framed. :-)

Yup. The chanting is looped. I think it's off the idol in the courtyard behind the building.

The Japanese build and the wild west build are owned by the same guy. He owns a LOT of Docklands, as well as other frontage along Route 66. Not sure what his angle is.

I visited the place last night ... I must say your work in SL is COMMENDABLE! I love the way you're building so far and the construction site is one of the cutest "under construction" ideas I've seen. \(^_^)/

Good job at getting that parcel and I really look forward to see the completed shop. (^_^)y

Overall the builds in Bay City are nice, although there is always something out of period, that is true in RL too, you drive through a neighborhood and always find one or two buildings that clearly do not belong there.

Humans.. ehh.. what can we do without them?

Also important to bear in mind dat nothing in SL is ever permanent.

It is beginning to look like Bay City Prices are almost approaching something that will have me bidding again... From what I have seen Outrageous has not been the order of the day so far in new builds, and even the land Grabber displays have been fairly sedate.

Ya, things are coming down to Earth. I doubt dis'll make some of the early land flippers too happy. I can't wait to see what happens to the person who owns a certain few Docklands plots along Route 66.

I think its looking great all over, around my parcels in Tanelorn and imaginario some interesting groups are moving in and building.. In Moosehead has quickly taken on some neat lakeshore character.

There aren't that many auctions left I would think though.. 3 maybe 4? Argos, Rollers, and Moloch The bids for today's auctions are already quite high, past the closing range of several parcels in the last 2 auctions..I would just say the board is a little scary..

I have bid a number of the recent auctions, got two.. bought a third parcel in the same sim just because I thought I would give mr. reseller a 100+US present haha.. I may be done though if the start breaking the 100k ceiling again..
