The thing you alway have to remember is that no matter how good your SL is, you can't forget about your RL and how important it is. For example when you start neglecting the kids or turnng down social outings days in a row just so as you can play SL, you have to realise there's a problem!

Yes, what makes SL the same as RL is the humans creating it. Give them the chance to make Utopia and you get much same thing over again and all the usual problems, but with extra beaches and more palm trees. Only in RL, "utopia" ends up most probably destroying an entire ecosystem just to satisfy the whims of one species. In SL, there is no ecosystem. The only interdependency is between Linden Lab and its customers. |

In RL when you need plastic surgery you need to undergo painful and long operations, they cost a lot of money, and they can hardly be undone.
in SL it's right click and replace outfit. and back again in just seconds. _____________________

You mean like camping holes, traffic bots, and dwell? Could be, could be... SL neighbors are interdependent, I suppose. Each sim is its own ecosystem; predators are ad farmers, prey are land owners? |

There is no legal recourse if you are cheated, scammed etc.. as there is in rl. A lot of people have that oh its a game and that is true to a certain extent until rl money becomes involved.

The ecosystem that existed when I joined in 2005 was killed by camping holes and traffic bots. The current ecosystem is significantly different, with many many fantastic places forever lost when they killed dwell. Well so now, would you consider all of SL an ecosystem? Or would it be broken down into different systems, like 1) Mainland 2) Private Islands 3) Private Continents (e.g. Caledon), or is each sim its own ecosystem? Or is a sim a microsystem (much like a meadow)? |

Well so now, would you consider all of SL an ecosystem? People can't decide whether Texas is one, three, four, six, or more "ecosystems". And it's almost contiguous. _____________________

Zat was Zen. sorry .. couldn't resist! How the hell does it happen that SL has so many problems that RL does? Someone said people. The good, the bad, the fallible, the wise, the naive, the dreamers, the schemers .. it's the same people. Often amuses me when I read in someone's profile "SL is SL, RL is RL" Nope! SL is RL too ya know? Some readily bring all their values across the login threshold, some pretend they leave them behind. _____________________

People misunderstand what that means bilbo.
It means no RL details given. Not that the person is somehow pretending they do not exist. |

If your friend tells you he bought a new house and you ask him, how many prim, might indicate a problem.
Differences, When I fall of a skyscraper in RL, I am not likely to brush off my clothes and walk away. When I rightclick on my house, It does not tell me who created it. I also have serious doubts if I can stay under water as easely as my avatar can. Gravity killed my dream of flying or having a house in the sky. Wish I could as easely move around sofa's, fountain's and even complete castles as I can in SL. I live in Holland, my RL girlfriend in the States, please gimme RL TP's!!!! )_____________________

Second Life is different from Real Life because, in Second Life:
1. Sex reassignment surgery is less expensive, and the recovery time is faster. 2. Sexually transmitted diseases are almost non-existent, and birth control is far more effecitve. 3. High heels don't hurt. 4. Male genitalia reminiscent of the late John Holmes are the rule, rather than the exception. 5. Female busoms reminiscent of the late Anna Nicole Smith are the rule, rather than the exception. 6. Anna-sized breasts require no bra for support. 7. Smooth legs and perfect bikini lines are possible without waxing. 8. You can carry everything you own with you everywhere without a handbag. 9. On average, women are taller than men. 10. Hair is always perfect. |

The difference between RL and SL is freedom, beyond that which we have (Or may not, depending on country...) in RL. Sure, you could say that I can travel, get any job I want, and so on, in RL if I work hard at it, but in Second Life, we go beyond that. We can do absolutely anything we want, without spending a dime.
We can fly, we can teleport across the world in a split second, we can translate languages without even a thought beyond reading a second line of text. We can create beautiful art in minutes, a sculpture in an hour where in RL we'd have to wait for our creation to set, sculpt, work, and toil away for hours. We can combine simple shapes into intricate designs and architecture, without having to worry about true functionality in terms of support beams, wiring, ventilation, and so on. We can realize our dreams of living in the clouds, or on our own private island, for close to nothing. Second Life allows the liberty of a responsibility free (And goal free, if you choose to not set any goals for yourself) environment, where we can be who we want, go where we wish, do as we please (Literally, though there may be repercussions for some things, we can just create a new alt if we go too far, really), and not have to worry that our partying last night is going to cause us to sleep in too late, or have to wake up next to some strange person and figure out how to leave without any drama or awkwardness. While in Real Life we must deal with such trivial things as food, sleep, and bathroom needs, in Second Life we never once have to go to the bathroom, or eat, or sleep, and we don't have to worry that we'll have a bad hair day, and spend hours fixing it. If something looks bad on you, be it clothes, hair, skin, or even your body, you can change it in a second, and continue on your merry way. In RL, you'd have to deal with these over time, and some would have long-lasting recoveries or unforeseen effects, while in Second Life there are not many complications that could arise from a simple nose job. We have the ability to log off, or become someone else, when things get too hard, or too unpleasant. If we don't like our job, we don't have any real expenses (Unless you choose to) to need to worry about, there is no unforeseen baby that you'll pay for forever, and you don't have to worry that you'll never be able to recover from a layoff. Second Life is Real Life, but made easier, more convenient, and right off the bat more pleasant, usually. Unless you complicate things for yourself(In any way, not just bad ways), there's no reason to have any worries in Second Life, you can feel free to come and go as you please, mute those who annoy you, and ban or report the worst ones. _____________________

6. Anna-sized breasts require no bra for support. Neither did hers - silicone! 9. On average, women are men. There - 'fixed that for ya'. (I always wanted to post that!) |

I do however think to some it means there is a total divorce between the two, leading to the plethora of broken hearts threads we witness ![]() _____________________

I don't need to worry about such cumbersome details such as building permits or drivers' licenses in SL.

In RL the neighbor can't cam into my house, see me having sex, report me to the mayor, and demand that I move to another continent.
