Where can I go to roleplay?

I've been getting a hankering for roleplaying but a fairly half hearted search has only turned up creepy sex places and near empty sims where anyone who is there ignores you anyway.

What sort of place can I drop into, make up a persona and start RPing back and forth on a fairly regular basis? I only have, like, an hour or so to kill and fairly infrequently so I don't have time to gradually build up relationships with people over weeks and weeks.

I'm specifically not interested in anything heavily into sex, CARP, or Gor or whatever else you freaks do

Uh, Capture roleplay I guess. I've never been but I understand you run around a maze until you get hot and sweaty and then you have sex.

It basically accounts for 50% of the search results for roleplay. The other 50% is mostly RP themed housing estates.

Sounds pretty fishy to me..

I guess the maze aspect is what keeps people coming back?

You could actually play that there. It's not always about sex....which is kind of a shame that people don't realize that in some of the roleplay sims. You control what you want it to be.

Here's my theory on that: To have enough people around for roleplay interactions....to keep it interesting....the sim needs to be populated enough, so that when you go there....there is opportunity for an adventure. Sex sells....and that's what gets people to those sims to keep them populated. It's not necessarily what you have to choose when you get there.

Alternative: Use one of your sims for the Barons and Peasants roleplay.

Try Legacies (in search). It's a set of sims that all function with the LARPS system (a whole 10 lindens to get started), a stat heavy based rp where ocmbat is secondary. Best of all, legacies is victorian/steampunk with fantasy elements, so you can be anything froma spell slinging mermaid to a mad steampunk scientist making clockwork minions.

There is sex, if you choose, and the only rp limits recognized are from the SL tos- consent before simulated rape, etc. After the adult change you -will- need to be verified.

Don't tempt me I've always wanted to. But as you allude it takes more than just setting up a sim and making it open. I set up an awesome medieval village once but it really just sat empty for 6 months before I gave up on it. I'll probably do it again one day.

oh a note. Im sure you fall into the safe area, but avatars have to be 30 days old to play in legacies, if that applies to anyone else reading here.

And if you decide to do it seperate in your own sim- its free to set up and you get 100% of profits from meter sells if I recall.

I thought you wanted something DIFFERENT from what you normally do on SL

When CARP first opened, I couldn't resist it.. I ran around the maze in a Pac-Man avatar.

A good number of popular RP sims allow and acknowledge sex in their "world". Many are not overt about it, nor do they shove it down your throat. For most people, it's about being creative and participating in a living story, and if sex becomes a part of it as some point, they don't shy away from it because it's "icky". Just realize that if sex is part of the world, it doesn't necessarily mean it's a theme park full of naked noobs on poseballs.

There's a place called Caledon that you could try Elan.

There are Pirate sims in which the only banging is the guns.
Sea battles and all that stuff.

Thats what I like about Legacies, Sling. Its Caledon with a combat system that makes sense - unlike DCS you aren't 'dead' if they defeat you, only if they are extremely strong, or do it several times. You actually get the 'you got knocked the f--- out' moment.

You have to keep it populated. It has to have an assortment of "characters" who frequent the place. Those that advertise sex.....have an assortment of characters. They are not all there for sex.....they have other roles to play. It's a shame you have to advertise it as sex, to get a population to frequent regularly.....because the regular characters are very interesting and very talented in their roleplay skills (without sex being involved).

It would be a challenge. There's a wild west sim....and I can't think of the name of it.....but the few times I was there....they had a consistent assortment of very interesting "characters." Just stay out of the bordello.....unless you want to play the sheriff......even then.....

We're missing a lot here, though - there's Star Drek RP in SL (probably all the scifi shows have RP here somewhere), elven RP sims (which are not all stardust etc, they do combat too I think), and of course Avillion, which at least used to have quests and quite consistent characters among residents.

Isn't there an RP group inworld that helps people find the right RP for them?

Search engine in SL really need to be fixed so people looking -for- sex-RP can find it, and people -NOT- looking for it can avoid it. And likewise for other dividing lines between Adult and PG.

Kind of have the opposite problem myself, trying to find something which is adult mild RP, without a combat-system tacked into it, but not the 'cheesy poseball themepark' either...

I can find extremes really easily, but very hard to find mid-points or refinements.
